http://www.live-footballontv.com for the UK channels, Bruh. Some games (Man Utd, Roma etc) are on BT.

Sky Sports mix and football are channels, and red button is a digital service that basically works as a channel.

Just seen this from yesterday. I thought Mandanda was the one black goalkeeper who wasn't fully off his nut, but apparently I just hadn't seen enough of him.

Who do you follow? I'm a Liverpool fan but it's all very boring. I like watching us as we are good at times but you know what's going to follow. It's like groundhog Day.

The big transfer fees started me off. It's probably been talked about on here lots already but it's too much. I'd snap Barcelona's hands off for the Coutinho money. It's ridiculous.

SvN

If there is I'd love to know. Sportsmania just got too big for them to handle, and their streams are now blocked by ISPs and you need a VPN. Not a problem for me because I use one anyway - but even when you can view them, they're so oversubscribed that they're constantly buffering and freezing. It's just not worth the hassle - I usually end up finding a free stream instead thesedays.

Giggles

Sportsmania works grand for me, but it may be an ISP thing. That said, I'm paying for NFL Gamepass now and I don't really care if I get much soccer coverage so I might not renew either. We still get free to air European stuff on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, plus half the League of Ireland live games are on free to air too.

If Liverpool can improve their defence in the next couple of transfer windows they are going to be a genuinely scary side. They looked wonderful going forwards today (admittedly Arsenal were garbo, but Liverpool look just as good in most of their games).

GS

They'd be half way there if they could sort out defending set pieces.

I'm not sure how much you can objectively take from that game. It's probably one of the worst performances you're ever going to see from a 'big' club. You could have put eleven of us on the pitch and we'd have struggled to do worse.

Lewis
27-08-2017, 07:52 PM
I don't think you can play like Liverpool and also be defensively solid unless you simply have really, really good defenders who can cover everything on their own initiative and don't make mistakes. The more successful Alex Ferguson sides had those, which allowed them to play with relatively little concern for defensive solidity, and I suppose Dortmund were the same five years ago; but I can't think of any 'unstructured' attacking sides that managed it. Everyone else either counter-attacks or bores people to death.

If it was the only time Liverpool had looked that good going forward I'd agree with you, but it's not. They have been pretty consistent in that regard.

I don't think the quality of their defence/keeper is good enough to be a TOP TOP TOP team - and the style is all a bit last-ditch like I said the other night - but if they can improve the personnel and calm it down a bit without compromising the offensive side too much I think they'll be a real contender.

I think we'll win the league this season though. Fingers crossed.

GS

They'll always concede goals in open play given the way they play, but there's no excuse for chucking the number of goals from set pieces that they do.

Lucky we got Eric Bailly. Otherwise they could have bought him and just played him as a back 1 and won everything going.

I agree to an extent, but better players and a slightly less wild approach closing down when you're the last man would definitely make them more solid without neutering the attack too much. You're obviously never going to go a whole season conceding 12 goals playing that style, but if you concede 2 instead of 3 against Watford for example it makes all the difference.

Mazuuurk

The thing with Liverpool is the way they play means they are great when allowed space to counter and run on, which typically Arsenal gives plenty of. So they beat sides like Arsenal and City, but fuck up against Burnley and Bournemouth etc. Arsenal (and City) are a bit the opposite in that they can sort of grind defences down when they have some tail wind, so they will beat Bournemouth but get shafted against the big teams (generally). Current crisis-mode aside, I suppose.

Chelsea, Spurs and Man Utd have some healthy mixture of these things, it feels like. Perhaps because they are less tactically one-sided. Liverpool and Arsenal both seem to have one gameplan and one gameplan alone.

Anyway with regards to Lewis clip up there - I'd fucking love it if Arsenal went on to win the league just to see someone show that guy that clip at the end :D

(Now, Arsene does seem pretty fucking bonkers, so it won't happen, but still)

They'd have conceded two against Watford if they'd been able to defend set pieces.

The personnel can only do so much, really. I mean, you'd see a demonstrable difference if you replaced Lovren with Franco Baresi at his peak. But I struggle to see who who can be realistically signed to improve the side markedly. Virgil van Dijk is apparently the only player they'd consider buying, even if the fee is the same as the GDP of a small country, but is he really going to be the difference? I can't see it.

Yeah, I thought the same when I saw they'd subbed Coquelin on and it was billed as a defensive move.

More defenders isn't really a defensive move against Liverpool. If you pitch up, try to go toe-to-toe and give them space, you'd best be fucking good. Arsenal seem to have this as their gameplan in recent seasons and they just get fisted. If you go with the Jose 8 and hope to get a chance off defensive fuckwittery it's actually a more sensible, attacking strategy.
