View Full Version : [FOOTIE] The 2017/2018 Prediction Thread

Here're some themes from last year's thread (http://www.thethirdhalf.co.uk/showthread.php?1180-FUTBOL-The-2016-2017-Prediction-Thread&highlight=prediction). 13 of us made predictions, with most categories completed.

Some hits...

9 predicted Newcastle would be promoted (4 that Newcastle and Brighton would finish in the top two).
4 predicted Chelsea would win the title.

And some misses...

Only 3 predicted Sunderland would go down.
Just 1 predicted Burnley would stay up. ( John )
And 0 predicted that Real Madrid would retain the Champions League. (With good reason, too. What happened to the damn curse?)

La Liga:Real Madrid
Serie A:Milan
Bundesliga:Bayern
Ligue 1:PSG

YOUR TEAM
League Position:2nd
Best player:Bruno Alves and Niko Kranjcar
Worst player:Danny Wilson
Unsung hero:Wes Foderingham
Best signing:Bruno Alves
Worst signing:Morelos, but he'll come good in future
Will your manager last the season?:He's the most erratic man alive, so this is impossible to answer
Any other thoughts? When we went out of Europe to a team I wouldn't manage on FM I basically gave up on this season, but since then we've drawn with a good Marseille side and beaten Sheffield Wednesday away fairly comfortably, so things look a bit brighter now. If even half the signings come good we'll be onto a winner, but as above the manager is a headcase so it could easily fall down.

Yo as much as we love to shit on pundits for having an easy job and taking no risks, we've had literally one person in this entire thread (John) back the current holders to win the title. The blinding dollar signs from the Manchester clubs are destroying everything in sight.

Jimmy Floyd
04-08-2017, 10:28 AM
For that reason, one of them should win the title and the other should come second.

We could win it again, but it'll need Conte to play a similar blinder to the one he played last year. We won because we had the best coach; normally, it's the team with the highest wage bill that wins.

TTH has decided that (I've no idea why I spent time counting these numbers):

Man United will win the Premier League, with 8 votes to Man City's 6
Swansea (12), Huddersfield (12) and Burnley (10) will be relegated, with Brighton (9) narrowly staying up
Real Madrid (5) will win the Champions League

Also, I meant in my prediction post that the gap between the top six (rather than seven) will grow. I think Everton will be way worse this season.

Liverpool haven't won the champions league:harold:

They have though, haven’t they? As in, the definitely will, so why split hairs.

I think the only thing I got right was Kanté being our best player, and even then some numbskulls insist that the not very good Marcos Alonso is.

Kante has never killed anyone, so there’s always that.

Marcos Alonso is overrated due to his attacking ability.

But the goals, mate...

To be fair he's only really in the team to do that (if he was in a team to defend, said team would be in the Spanish third tier), but he's not even that good at attacking, percentage wise. Just gets on the highlight reels a lot.

Emerson is far better and will see him off next year.

Alonso is deadly when he’s driving forward

I'd assumed he ('Emerson') was some sort of tax avoidance scheme in the mold of Papi Djilboji or whatever he was called. Or Baba Rahman. Did he exist?
