Ended up trading in Lopez, got back Fernando. Thought I'd packed Malcolm for a second and was delighted. Either way you can't complain. I've exchanged a bronze TOTS card and Lopez who was reasonably useful, for an 87 and 90 rated TOTS card, the latter of which being a dynamite super-sub.

As I didn't pack anyone to build a team around, I ended up sorting my back line out. I've now got this:

The medium/medium 92 Martinez is a dread in my defensive midfield. The lack of pace (66) isn't really a big deal. Not once in the four games I played with his yesterday was he ever out of position. Offensively, as soon as he gets the ball I look to switch the play as his long passing is excellent. Defensively, his interceptions and slide tackles are superb. I rarely slide tackle, but I do it quite often with CDM Martinez as he usually comes out with the ball.

Not sure who will be in the Bundesliga TOTS in midfield with a medium or low offensive workrate, but I would be surprised if I find someone better. I'm going to sell him though as I'm tight with my coins as I suspect the SBC that drops today, he will get flooded on the market and his price will decrease.

No. I would hold now. There are going to be more TOTS cards released which means the prices are going to decrease. I'm now watching the record breaking milner card. If Salah gets the prem record card ( can he still get it?) People will pair them together. Also that IF french 82 GK from PSG. You can get him for 13k. There are pages of him available. He will increase in value once a SBC comes out for him. French POTY and TOTS are likely.

He's great.

He's a bit like all the best midfielders in the game rolled into one. Although I think he would be so much better as a CAM.

He's easily the best goal scoring player I've used from midfield.

Yeah. Tots cards are alreay 40k so i didnt buy any. The sbc given its the prem should be 84 rated. Maybe they require two tots cards also. That will cost at least 150k at a minimum. Pope is the lowest cost tots and he is 100k .

In the third game I get a quick goal and looking strong. He gets a lucky one from a corner and then all of a sudden he's winning every 50/50, walking past my defence with ease and my De Gea is falling on his arse trying to let them in whilst his De Gea is looking like the best ever.

Thanks to some trading I've got myself 150k to spend on those 2 spaces. The only problem position I have is Herrera. He's not amazing. However I can go PL regardless with him there. The alternative is to switch the 3 to the Roma 3 whilst I can do it without loss. Nainggolan is a far superior midfielder, but then I lose out slightly on the full back.

I could spend on Pogba and have maybe enough to upgrade 1 of the two forward positions, or I could buy someone like 84 Wilson, with Hazard as a RW on 7 chem. I could also bring in the Birthday Mahrez for up front, or one of his IF cards for RW. The biased fan in me also really wants Firmino. Aguero also an option.

I'm saying all this assuming I get one of the crap cards in tomorrows SBC. Though any of the strikers or right wingers would be very welcome.

If you buy the gold card, once its out of packs they usually rise by 25% if they are in demand. Salah was 25k this time last week. Now he is 33k as his gold has been out of packs because of tots. Interesting to watch how you play though and one thing I couldn't get my head around is that everytime you broke you had players in acres of space whereas everytime I did (which was obviously much less) I ran into 5 players back and not once in the two games did I get in behind your defence down the middle.

It's player instructions combined with their workrates. For example you can tell Balotelli to come back on defence but he'll do whatever he wants with his low/low.

So how are your player instructions set and what's your thinking behind them?

I played the 4-3-2-1 you see in the load screen in the first game. The 2nd was 4-1-2-1-2(2) after that pause at the start.

In the 4-3-2-1, my front 3 at all set to get in behind and press back line. The thought here is, with all 3 having high attacking workrates, the runs will be constant and also layered.
The 2 outside midfielders I leave alone. Vidal and Nainggolan are beast high/high box-to-box midfielders, so I let them do their thing. I do though set Dembele to stay back whilst attacking. His lack of high attacking workrates means he will listen 90% of the time and be the first line of defence, or he'll be there for a pass to be recycled to.

I don't touch the CB instructions and the full backs are told to stay back whilst I'm attacking. This combined with Dembele is why you got that wall of 5. In theory I split my team into an attacking unit of 5 and a defensive 5.

The 4-1-2-1-2(2) is mostly the same, but for when I think I need a go-to man between the lines. Everyones instructions stay as above, but this time I have a CAM. He is told to stay forward.
If he can sneak in behind your midfield then he's in a perfect position to cause damage if I can get him the ball. As then he'll have a 3 v 3 or a 3 v 4. The strikers then try and get in behind and it gives you a choice. Cover their runs but allow Hazard to bear down on goal, or go out to take the ball of him. Either way space is being left to be exploited.
