I'm gonna be working in London (til mid September). Holed up in Shoreditch with all the Bangladeshis. Nah i have a room in my friends flat that he's subletting and it looks pretty clean and modern so I'll be safe, but in any case, outside of work, my 1 flatmate who i don't know, and maybe 3-4 people I know scattered around London i'll be pretty much soloing my days away. If anyone wants to chill and drink or go do whack shit just hit me up i'm down in the afterhours.

!!! Love you

Have you not seen Kiko's meets? It looks like the most uneventful, boring, self indulgent self flagellation dire-fest in the history of meets. If there's one word I'd use to describe it, it would be...beige.

And you're a bit of a freak so you probably wouldn't fit in to their conversations about beard grooming and the latest reasonably priced wristwatches.

Going for a pint is clearly very difficult to make zany. Next time I'll get us to spin finger each other.

Bullshit. It looked like a one pinter and a meal, with possible discussion about potential city breaks to go on with the girlfriend/wife.

Classic.

Check out the Pergola in Hampstead Heath. Would be a great place for a date if you meet any cute Polish or Italian girls.

I'd have to meet a girl for that to happen.

Hampstead Heath is great though.

I can echo those thoughts, wasn't that far of a walk from where I live currently. Pretty nice on a hot summers day.

Ok lads, so what tier Oystee/travelcard should i get? Mind you i'm here for two months and will be commuting most every day. I refuse to accept that 130 pound for a one-month Oystercard is the cheapest way to get around. If it is then i'm gonna terrorize Shoreditch while i'm here, what a fckin joke

Just get a pay as you go Oyster and link it to your bank account with auto top-up (this assuming you habitually have more than £5 in your account).

Actually, that said, not sure if you need a UK account for that. But auto or manual top up, you just pay for what you use.

Is there any reason to use an Oyster card instead of a contactless debit card?

That's actually a fair point. If they're paying a fee per transaction, then they're better off getting an Oyster card.

You can't get a monthly pass on an Oyster, but it'll cap out at £6 per day (I think).

@ Mok - the thing you need to figure out is which zones you're going to be in. Where are you staying? If it's just Shoreditch then a Zone 1-2(?) monthly travel card will be fine. This gives you access to Tubes + Buses. You can then chuck on some spare cash to cover if you go outside of that zone.

So a pay as you go would be cheaper? Online it looks more expensive though; maybe this is due to the capping rates?

Yeah the monthly comes out to 126 - which is absurd honestly.

It's a £6.60 daily cap on Oyster. I'd go that unless you're doing heavy travel every day.

You'd also be surprised how walkable London is for the shorter journeys. The tube map makes it seem a lot bigger than it really is.

As someone who was on his way to Hyde Park when the tube shut down at Westminister, nah. It is more fun though.

I used to walk from Kennington to Bloomsbury daily (and back). Was a great lifestyle, zero delays (except one time when they closed the road because of an iPhone being released and teenage girls swamped the outside of the building), and free.

'I used to walk from Kennington to Bloomsbury daily'

If you managed to get a 'Somewhere-on-Tyne' in there this would be an incredibly English sentence.
