(this is for those in work, obviously)
How long in your day do you actually spend directly engaged in work or work-related tasks? Things that don't count as work include:
- browsing on here / the web
- going to the loo
- making tea
- daydreaming
- lolling / bantering / chatting with colleagues about things other than work tasks
- looking at your phone
- closing your eyes wanting to die
- pretending to work
But if, say, your job involves driving then all of that time counts as a work task.

According to my timesheets, I do 7hrs a day. But in reality it's often more as i often work at home during the evenings.

Between 5 and 6 hours I'd say, but my Working day is 9 hours long.

It's supposed to be 8 hours. I imagine it's less than half that.

On a job? All day.
At home? Maybe an hour if that.

Answered a couple e-mails. Time to go get my haircut and grab some lunch.

Depends where I am. I've lots of days where I've 7 hours driving and 2 hours working.

Probably about 7 out of a 10 hour day. Although that includes what I do work wise once I get home which is often of pretty dubious quality.

I'd include driving as working
When I'm at the office (about 8 days per month on average) I do 14 hour days and spend a good 11-12 hours of that actually working. The rest of the time, probably about 4 hours of actual work in total, depending on how busy things are, but I'm "available" for the full 8 hours.

For me I reckon it's about three hours most days (would be five if I was useless), which is why I asked to see how close to the norm that is.

On a standard 9-5 day, probably about 4 hours.
However I often work extra and I'd say for every extra hour I do, you could add 40 minutes of actual working.

Beats actual work though. I don't really count office time either as work, I'd do about 6 hours of that a week.
On average, probably about 8 of the 10 hours I'm at work. Maybe another hour/hour and a half at home but typically that's only Monday-Wednesday.

9/10 hours, five days a week. Then plenty more at the weekend.
You lot don't know you're born etc.

Phones are always ringing which is always a laugh when in debt recovery but I'd say about 2/3 hours of work processing in the 7.15 hours I'm paid fir.
I basically work up to lunch, so about four and a half hours. I generally do absolutely bollocks all once I come back in the afternoon, though I would argue my half-arsing is more productive than the full-arsing of quite a number of my colleagues.

Busy days I'm probably working about 5 hours of 7, quiet days sometimes as few as 2. But I'm just showing old ladies how to deposit cheques and stuff so none of it is REALLY work. I probably aught to find something more challenging and "rewarding" but I dunno if I can be arsed. It's nice having the energy in the evenings to dedicate myself to more important stuff too, like..errr....stuff....

Most of the time the full 8 hours...
My work is dependent on customers coming in - so the less homeless people who bother to get off their arse and do something about it, the less work I do. It's very hard to quantify.

I'd love to have a job where you're waiting for customers to physically come in. Coffee maker at a seaside stall in the Witterings, say.

7 but it's always less if I have to redirect a smacky or meth tweaker to the appropriate services down the street.

Only half of that time, when the kids are in.
30 hours a week for 30 children, you can do the maths as to how much I should be earning ;)
I work in a nursing home, probably 8-10 of 12.
