When I first came over to the UK I, somewhat naively, thought that race wouldn't be much of an issue when it came to friendship groups. While it does happen, its not anywhere near the scale I'd imagined.

So, do you have a black friend? Indian friend? Chinese friend? Why haven't we all started hanging around like one big happy family?

I've a Portuguese friend with a bit of a tan and that's about it.

I only recall seeing one real life black person until at least my mid teens anyway.

There was one black girl in my year at secondary and an Indian girl came in year 10. We also also had an Indian kid for a year or so in Primary School which served as our introduction to multiculturalism. He left as a fan of Limp Bizkit, so it was a roaring success.

It's kind of weird that I don't have an Indian/Pakistan (etc) friend as I lived in both Coventry and Birmingham but in my experience they are by far the most insular community.

All my closest friends are white and Finnish, but I do have friends from my time abroad and from work who are from all possible ethnicities. I haven't stayed very close with most of them after moving or changing work place.

We set up our own immigration agreements and for whatever reason we reached an agreement with the porkos to do the jobs we cba to. They mostly come from Madeira, which is apparently the arsehole of Portugal, so the wage to pick potatoes in Jersey must be rather appealing. I think the fact that they can come over and function without learning English has meant the population has snowballed into the disgusting figure you see today.

I've got all the major groups covered, except black =(. I knew a Nigerian in uni who spoke better mandarin than me, which was quite the sight to see.

Everyone Australian with dark hair who isn't definitely Italian/Lebanese seems to claim some sort of indigenous status. There must be a point where it stops being relevant. One of my great-great grandmothers was Irish, but I don't walk around in a buckle hat with a pig under my arm, so they should start paper bag testing the Indigenous All Stars.
