People seem to get excited about Brighton beach, but its so shit. I don't know what the exact definition of a 'beach' is but coming from Jersey I can't get on board with calling it a beach.

So, are pebble messes beaches or not?

As someone who lived in Nice for half a year; no, they are absolutely not.

Did you get beaten up by Algerians at any point?

This was back in 2011, so they were busy beating up each other across the Med.

Not really bothered about whether they fit the definition of a beach, but they're definitely shit. Walking on pebbles in bare feet is agony.

I'm not sure who decided they were beaches, but they were clearly tossers.

It's not a beach without sand.

A follow-up question: would you choose a pebble bank or park on a hot summer's day?

Park.

A stony beach can have appeal if it has other interesting features (caves/rockpools etc) but the Brighton Beach pebble bank as you aptly describe it, I can't see the attraction.

It is nice to look out at the sea, though. I can't think of any parks in Brighton that would be better than the front.

Pebbles hurt to walk on so will never win. They aren't real beaches and I would rather go the park.

The lido in Saltdean (re)opens soon.

You need to find a country pub overlooking the downs or something.

My Dad used to take us to a pebble beach a lot in Cyprus and I hated it.

They're fucking annoying.

I don't think the one in Nice is too bad, although I did see someone headbutt someone else at night there.

I'd choose a sand one any day, yet loads of my mates when we went on holiday when we were younger hated the sand.

The lido looks nice, but bit of effort getting there. I don't really bother swimming these days. You just get itchy and uncomfortable.

I have no idea where such a pub would exist. I'm more than happy with cans, speaker and the front. If its a nice day, all the seating will be taken in a pub anyway.

Who remembers Pebble Mill? Shit 80's daytime tv at it's best.

Brighton beach is ideal for Brighton because you can go on it, do your drugs or your bumming or whatever everyone is into, and then come back off it without having to clear sand out of your size eleven tranny heels and/or arse. Personally I don't see the appeal of beaches.

I prefer grass (or concrete) over both sand and pebbles.

To deny that a pebble beach is a beach is just wishful thinking.

A beach is just the middle ground between land and sea, so technically speaking the bit of a boat ramp between the bottom and wherever the water reaches at high tide is a beach.

That said, pebble beaches are a monstrosity and if someone tells you they're going to the beach then goes to one of those you should have the legal right to punch them.

It's a beach but sandy beaches are a lot better. You still get the nice experience of being near the sea but I'd never plan a day out solely for a pebble beach.

I live on the sea front at Hastings, a glorious pebble beach with rocky outcropping and tidally exposed sandy stretches. It's awesome.

Do not walk on pebble beaches in bare feet, this way lies only pain. Get yourself some beach footwear, live long and prosper

The worst thing about Pebble Beach is the bloody cataquacks that constantly got in your way and give you a good boot in the air. If you were unfortunate enough to be driving alongside Bowser or Petey Piranah then you knew your race wasnt going to end well.

Stony waterfront is perfectly nice, and often a lovely way to spend an afternoon. But it's not a beach.

No no no, you want to get close to the duck things, makes their movement less predictable for anyone following.
