Obviously it'd be daft to get carried away before we've bright in some talent, but it's not all doom and gloom. We have good days and bad days which tend to determine the result, but we have looked capable on our good days.

You've no idea we'll be in the Championship. We've been in worse positions many times before and been fine.

Teams above being worse? Being passed by Newcastle? Burnley have surpassed us despite only coming back up again this season, and I'm the one only basing things on this season? What are you on about?

That you're inclined to listen to some gobshite attention seeker just because he used to be a footballer is quite telling. The 'pundits' know very little - have you not learned that yet?

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Hopefully it'll be a long time until that joke of a club is back in the top flight.

In '95, aye. Then we got ideas above our station. Sunderland's support is a lot more longer suffering than ours. It's been a long while since they've been able to attract genuine class. We've got clout that the mackems can't match, in that regard. Especially with that boardroom. I'd still take them in the top flight over Hull.

Yeah agree with all that. I'd rather both of us be in the premier league than any other scenario.

No idea what happens with us now. Usually when we go down we piss the championship and come straight back up, but that was all 10+ years ago now. Moyes is seen as a cancer of the club by many fans and the assumption is he's staying. We could be fucked for a while truth be told.

I think the general perception of match going fans is a lot different to what people are saying in here. Generally we're quite well liked by other sets of fans, probably due to the large numbers we always take.

I can see you slipping into a dogfight. Villa territory. The support I've got no bother with. The ones at work are quite passionate and, like I've said, long-suffering. They're complete cunts around derby week but that's too be expected. They bring numbers but not a lot of noise, by some accounts. Granted, they've had nowt to cheer for the last few years. They've had a real perfect storm in the last year, though.

Johnston going to prison, Allardyce getting his head turned by the FA and the board's lack of movement on the whole thing, appointing Moyes and then tasking him with no budget and then tasking him to grab bodies in a short, short space of time. Next year will have to be about consolidation and digging in.

The fact that United are on such a very good defensive and unbeaten run, yet still are touch and go for just the top 4 shows how competitive the top boys have been this season.

Everything was looking as good as it had for several years at the end of last season. Allardyce had come in and lolled his way to safety, there was a good feeling and we had a genuinely decent team. Fast forward a few months and that has been completely dismantled. Our strong spine of Kone, Kaboul, Kirchhoff, M'Vila and Cattermole was suddenly reduced to one, and he wanted out. Johnson and Khazri were playing well, and suddenly they're either in prison or in the background. Quite how Khazri has only just started playing again is anyone's guess. Both full backs changed, as well as our keeper (although he's better in fairness).

Moyes seems to have been preparing for the Championship from the get-go, and he has his wish.

City are a shoe-in with their fixtures (sadly) and it's a coin toss between the rest. Can't see Arsenal doing it (although it would be funny, particularly if they could do it at the expense of the Manchesters) but if anyone is going to shit their way through some tricky games it'll be United. Liverpool could win all their remaining games, or none of their remaining games. Smiffy's got some money riding on it. Possibly too much.

Jeff Stelling just had a go at Spurs fans for being happy at finishing above Arsenal. "Spurs fans being delighted that they have finished above Arsenal for the first time in 20 years... how desperate is that?.. haven't you got bigger goals?" . Presumably, Spurs aim every season to finish as high as possible - it just so happens that this year they also finished above Arsenal - why on earth cant they be happy about that?

I'm not sure it's particularly Spurs' fans fault that the great unwashed have found out about St Totteringham's Day and are obsessed with making a big deal of it.

They should call the DVD St Totteringham's Year.

In all seriousness, they've cemented themselves in the top two pretty nicely. United are in pre-Ferguson levels of mush, City can't spend themselves out of a hole (and Pep's not good enough to manage out of that) and Liverpool are spinning their wheels.

Spurs aside, it needs to be said that Jeff Stelling has turned into such an unwatchable cunt lately. Someone needs to kick the soapbox out from under him.

I think this is as good as it gets for Tottenham, which is why them not actually winning anything during this period is far funnier than anything Arsenal can manage.

I hadn't realised the BT crew had tried to make out Rashford didn't dive :D

Absolutely massive win that. I reckon from here if we win both home games it should be ours.

In normal circumstances, United could easily win out from here, but their injuries have really piled up. Combined with the Europa League semi-final, they may well have to choose one or the other. I'm assuming they will beat Arsenal at the weekend, but should they get through to the final, the Spurs game after that could well be an opportunity to drop points.

Tonights result has also turned the Arsenal v United game into an elimination game almost. If there is a loser, they will almost certainly miss out. A draw would be a disaster for both teams, so I'd expect a very open finish to that game.

I'm still 50/50 on our chances. We've done them a hell of a lot of good tonight, but a win against Southampton would see us on the brink. Our last 2 games are tough to call. West Ham away could see us up against a team on their holidays or one still fighting the drop. Same goes for Middlesbrough. They could come out and play with the pressure off having gone down already, or just turn up to get the game over with.

United should definitely prioritise the UEFA Cup, to the point where they might as well field youth teams in the league if they have to. Top four would have been fun if it meant keeping City or Liverpool out, but it is only ever a means to an end, and winning the other thing achieves it anyway.

That Can goal is probably the goal of the season (I say probably just in case I'm forgetting something).

I also feel that United dropping points and Liverpool winning has made United getting top fout very unlikely. So Europa or bust from now on.

I think it'll be bust in both tbh. Vigo will knock us out and we'll lose at arsenal.

I'm going to stay optimistic regarding the Europa for now. But I must confess that I have little idea how good Celta actually are. Being 11th in La Liga would make me think that United are favourites even with the current injury crisis.

Apparently they're a Bielsa-esque side, similar to Athletic 3 or 4 years ago. All hard running and pressing. They've had plenty of rest the last few weeks as they've been playing their reserves in the league.

Aspas has been playing like Messi's regen this season. I fear him (albeit not his corners)
