View Full Version : Do you tape over your webcam?

I've noticed a few people in seminars with tape over their webcam. All girls, all macbooks. Today I was trying to figure out why they'd do it, and the leading theory currently is that they watch porn and as girls they feel forced to take precautions due to the stigma.

So, do you tape over your webcam?

No. I'm not a girl with a Macbook.

No, I like the idea of the CIA and GCHQ watching me masturbate.

You have to be seriously stupid to allow someone to gain access to your webcam on your macbook. I don't, and if someone did manage to hack it they would just get continuous video of me sitting there looking bored or watching Parks & Rec. Not much to worry about.

It's probably because Mark Zuckerberg does it.

What has watching porn got to do with your webcam?

I've got tape over mine, only because it freaks me out when a program uses the webcam and suddenly I see my own face on the screen. Same reason is why I can't have snapchat.

So it turns out hfswjyr is TTH's unlikely porn king. Fair play.

My webcam doesn't work, so can't see much point.

Never. If someone wants to see me with a dildo up my arse that's their decision.

I agree.

Does anyone fancy seeing that btw?

'Tape over' means to erase something with a replacement recording.

'Put tape over' means to stick some tape over something.

Oh and I don't have a webcam.

I suppose there are a lot more perverts keen on seeing girls doing whatever, than seeing guys.

I don't put tape over mine.

Have done for years out of sheer paranoia.

Then Black Mirror totally vindicated me.

You know what, it's funny that you've created this thread as only the other night I got paranoid about it and ended up sticking a rizla paper over it.

Speaking of webcams.

Does anyone else get loads of friend requests from fake profiles on Facebook for hot females?

Or does Facebook KNOW and are trying to lure me into a trap?

I had no idea this was even a thing until I noticed someone at work doing it but I can't be bothered myself.

I've got my papers and my visa, Trump. You can't touch me.

If there are cameras in the house I put a piece of blutack over them. I dont expect surveillance but it's better to minimise.

Why do you have cameras in the house?

And what do you mean "if"?

I'm sure those flatmates were chuffed to bits with you sticking Blu-Tack to their things.

As impractical as it is you'd be better off taping over the microphones on your phones if you're worried about intrusion.

I don't and I'm not sure what it would achieve by doing so, even if GCHQ were watching.

I've been on quite a few e-safeguarding courses at work and they recommend it, so I've quite recently started doing it. It doesn't harm.

To be honest it might not have been much more than a 'why take the risk?' type spiel. Working in a school right now, technology and children's exposure to it is massive, so any precautions that can be taken are always recommended.

Slightly off topic, but 'sexting' is a huge concern with children, especially because if a photo falls into the wrong hands, there's no turning back and it'll be on the internet forever.
