Leeds

Steak and Ale for me. It needs to have sides though. I'm getting sick of these wanker pubs that serve 'pies' that are basically stews with a pastry lid. They need to die in a fire.

Banoffee is up there too actually, although it's different because it's a desert. I'm not entirely certain that I'd count it as a 'pie' anyway, come to think of it.

If it's a chip shop pie it's Chicken and Mushroom all day. If it's home-made then it's Steak and Kidney.

At least three of those aren't actually pies, or at least I don't see why they've allowed cross contamination between savoury and sweet.

Steak and Ale for a proper pie.

So long as it doesn't have puff pastry then it's all good. Top for me would be a pork pie and a pecan pie.

Cannot fucking stand that. Some of the most disappointing moments of my life have been where I've been served one of those.

I always ask in advance now when ordering whether it's a proper pie or a dish with a lid.

Pork pie or a good steak and potato.

Morrisons pork pies should be illegal they're like crack.

Meat and potato, which I'd assume is the steak and potato on the opening post for Liverpool.

Balti pies are properly good too, but nothing can touch steak and ale for me. I've only ever had a balti pie at Bramall Lane, come to think of it.

What are the best/worst stadiums for pies?

It was about ten years ago but the worst pie I've ever had at a match was at Anfield.

A good, sweaty bit of pork pie takes some beating.

London's choice there just tells you all you need to know about where that city has gone in the last 15 years.

We don't tend to see many ...& potato pies up here.

We're restricted to Scotch Pie (mince), Steak (& Kidney) pie, Curry Pie, Macaroni Pie (bizarre) & Pork Pie I'd say out of your standard pies. Probably a few I've missed.

Inside. Like this, though this is a little more runny than we get in St. Helens

Chicken pie with thick gravy (for the South) is the best.

Apple pie is pretty nice, but once you get on to the sweet pies you're better off having a crumble with custard.

The pork pie is pretty ubiquitous but a good Steak & Kidney/Ale/Stilton works pretty well. Honourable mention for chicken pie that you make with the leftovers from a roast. Anything advertising itself as 'meat' can do one.

I'll never understand people who choose to have 'kidney' in their pie with the steak. What the fuck?

I'd eat it if I had to, but I do wonder about people who actually prefer that shite.

Londoners just love Christmas food. That list is a shambles, though. Why is bannoffee pie being offered up next to steak and ale?

I couldn't really tell you my favourite (savoury) pie. I think back in the day I'd have said chicken and mushroom, but I can't remember the last time I ate a pie.

Scotch Pie, or a pie of 'pie and mash' fame, although the steak and kidney pudding is a good 'un. Go to Rules, I'm pretty sure that place is the bench mark for those.

Nah, it's mad middle aged women sending those. Those who respond to an open question about pie with 'banoffee' will be the overpaid 30 year old men with no shoulders working in 'tech' or 'insight'. Look, Raoul, it's nothing personal.

Fucking London.

Savoury pies any day of the week. Steak and ale, Chicken and mushroom/vege, anything really. Even just a pukka pie will do.

Not sure about cold pork pies. Eating a cold pie is a bit strange.

We have mince and cheese in New Zealand, which some find weird but it's a staple.

Pork pies are at their best at room temperature, with pickle or something similar to give them a bit of tang.

'This'.

That said, pork pies are the most inconsistent. You can mask filth meat in steak pies to an extent, but you can't cover for shit pork or too much jelly.

Black pudding scotch eggs and sausage rolls are great. There are quite a few variations out there and its difficult to go wrong as long as you stick to the full breakfast ingredients.

Loads of pubs in R-town sell pork pies with black pudding in them. They're decent but I prefer them in scotch eggs. Had some pork pie from morrisson's with applesauce, that was good.

And yeah, pork pies room temperature, sausage rolls warm out of the oven. At school, my mate who was a really fussy eater would quite often eat an entire packet of sainsbury's sausage rolls straight out of the fridge, so they were all dusty and waxy. Fucking pervert.

It's was pretty medium consistency, but the local chippy is a Chinese so don't be expecting tradition.

Go to the one 20 minutes up the road and its proper Northern style.

Is that a pie or just a whole potato that avoided chipping?

John
10-03-2017, 10:16 PM
Steak and onion or chicken and bacon if I'm getting one from the butcher, but Tesco have upped their selection of Scotch type pies with various fillings to such an extent that I can actually buy a load of them as snack food. They do a 'breakfast pie' for about a quid that's absolutely filthy but brilliant.

Ian

If I'm at a game up here and the only pies they have left are Scotch pies I'm usually pretty disappointed.

Steak and summat is the winner, with chicken and mushroom a close second.

Though there's a place in Glasow that specialises in pies and I had their 'duckfast' pie one day. Duck with veg and a gravy made using Buckfast. It was pretty awesome.

If I've the misfortune of buying something with a puff pastry on it I'd either keep it in the bag to go soggy or find a microwave.
