I've been a fairly long-standing critic of Baldock, which probably shows you what I know about football. He really seems to be pivotal to Brighton, and now he's scoring for fun as well. Fair play.

Still think he's an excellent League 1/par-Championship level player.

Nice to see those horrible bastards from Huddersfield finally stop winning today. 6 points and goal difference feels a bit more comfortable again. Hopefully beat Newcastle and leave those two to duke it out for second.

Adamski
25-02-2017, 08:24 PM

Leipzig won too, still 7 points between them and Dortmund for second place.

What happened, Offy? I was watching on telly because of the broken arm.

We were really good, I thought, although Reading's playing out from the back completely failed - they couldn't get up the pitch.
Trouble started when some Brighton fans goaded Reading fans into coming towards the fencing separating the two sides, then when the Reading fans all crowded by the fencing a Brighton fan chucked his beer at them, then loads of beer throwing ensued and the steward on the gate got absolutely soaked. Very funny. Police piled in from there and seemed to just pick a (Reading) fan at random to kick out from that incident. Then it all simmered a bit. I still don't understand how somebody goes from doing nothing for two minutes to shouting "WHO ARE YA? WHO ARE YA? WHO ARE YA? WHO ARE YA?" to reverting back to sheepishly standing still. Anyway, after half time, the police on the Reading side all left, so two Reading fans went over to the gate, unaware that police were still on the other side and after being told to move a few times, one of the guys got pushed, then slipped, then almost chokeslammed out of the emergency exit. His mate went off and must have told the lads "E DINT DO NUFFIN" because then a group of pikeys came back shouting "ITS AHHT OV AWWDAH." The police must never get sick of dealing with these pretend hard men that start crying once somebody pushes them.

Watching Norwich v Ipswich. I'd question what the point of having someone like Mick McCarthy in charge of your club is (there are plenty of him around football). No ambition, a total hatred of any kind of excitement, just a weekly effort to 'keep it tight' and 'frustrate the opposition', and finish 15th yet again.

Big Sam's 'respect the point' making a comeback in yesterday's programme notes. What a catchphrase that is.

Came across the Real Madrid match while channel-flicking and had a look at the goalscoring stats in La Liga this year. How come the top goalscorers all have (relatively) sane numbers rather than the usual 70 goals Messi has bummed past everybody at this point? Wikipedia tells me the useless little twat is only scoring a goal a game so far.

And Ronaldo not even that.

They're getting old.

Also Xavi isn't there anymore and Iniesta is also getting old. Suarez himself is 30 now.

Maybe Liverpool will be able to defend when more than half of their 'defenders' are actual defenders, even outwith the goalkeeper situation.

Danny Drinkwater lolling volleys in from 30 yards though? Oh, ok.

Looks like Firmino has joined whatever cult it is that has sabotaged Sturridge's career.

It makes me worry that Joe Gomez might not be all I've built him up to be in my mind.

They've Klavan too, but he's fairly useless. At least he is a centre back though. All that said, nothing warms the heart like seeing Lucus 'the defender' going up for corners, having spent the rest of his career as one of the two left behind.

Oh yeah, Sakho, no idea what's happened there.

Unless something dodgy happens in the FA Cup, 7th will get you in the Europa League. Bad luck. Although I suppose you could be ambushed by Pulis's marauding Baggies.

Shades of the Man City game with massive gaps in behind for Vardy to run into. Hopefully not another false dawn. Hull at home on Saturday is probably a better test of "Shakey's" credentials.

Ndidi is quality though and that strike from Drinkwater was just lovely
