Couldn't you have listed all the UEFA official partners next to each Champions League fixture?

The format I love for the second leg of ties is 'Galatasaray (1) vs Rosenborg (2)'. You never see it these days. Or Rosenborg.

I didn't fully comprehend the size of the task when I undertook it. Props to Reg, I'd have killed myself by week 3.

Europa League on Wednesday? What is this? It's what I've been suggesting for years - play them all on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 17:00. FESTIVAL OF FOOTBALL.

Looking forward to the City game tonight, as well. Monaco are a good watch.

I'm off to Lyon in a couple of hours for some banter in St Étienne. Hopefully I'll be able to dab with the Pogbas.

I wouldn't really call it a hounding would you? Just trying to get him involved amicably which seems to be his wishes. You've done worse to more people.

Jimmy Floyd

Sevilla game should be hilarious.

I think it could go the other way, Sevilla not been on SIZZLING form of late and expectations for Leicester are so low that they can only really surpass them.

By that I mean lose 4-0 as opposed to 7-0.

Max Power
21-02-2017, 06:29 PM
We've had such a dramatic few years I can now only see a hilarious 1-0 away win tomorrow. Relegation is a certainty but still potential for fun in Europe perhaps. Still piling into the handicaps as planned though.

City/Monaco game could be fun. Goals galore.

Some atmosphere in the St Ètienne stadium. Both sides behind the goal are nonstop singing. Grates after a while as they don't react to the actual football on the pitch.

The game itself was terrible. They're awful and it was so easy. Micky going off could be massive for the season.

Alkmaar arrived last night as well for Lyon. Lots of big bastards.

Is there any scenario where Utd winning it would make Liverpool miss out through the league because of it?

Jimmy Floyd
23-02-2017, 10:33 AM
1. Chelsea
2. Tottenham
3. Arsenal
4. Liverpool
5. Man City (CL winners)
6. Man Utd (EL winners)

Think that would make Liverpool miss out.

Kikó
23-02-2017, 10:35 AM
Does it mean we take the 4th spot if we win? Or are they independent?

I have no idea who's actually still in the competition Jim.I feel a bit 90s with the lack of information.

Jimmy Floyd
23-02-2017, 10:38 AM
There is a reserved spot for CL holders and Europa League winners regardless of country, so it wouldn't affect the top 4 unless in the scenario above. I think there is a scenario where the EL winners would have to play the qualifying playoff though.

This season Spain had Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico and Villarreal (didn't qualify) from the league, and Sevilla from the Europa League, so 5 teams.

I just looked at the draw and it's a list of boring teams from boring countries. I guess a tooled up Spurs could be a threat as well.

Adamski
23-02-2017, 11:47 AM
There's quite a few handy teams left in, my dear Little Englander.

It is made slightly easier by draws like Roma vs Villarreal and Lyon/AZ meaning a decent side goes out early on but Roma, Zenit, Fiorentina, Lyon, Spurs, Bilbao, Schalke & Shakhtar are all more than capable of beating Utd I would say.

Jimmy Floyd
23-02-2017, 11:57 AM
Yeah they could win, but I'd have United as heavy favourites for the vast majority of those ties, assuming they put first choice XIs out.

It reminds me of the season we were in the Europa League under Sir Rafa Benitez, and even though we weren't that great a side and there were some vaguely dangerous opponents around, it was obvious from quite early on that we'd take the trophy easily.

BT will now show the remaining four EA FIFA Majors in this year's FIFA Ultimate Team Championship Series. Simon Green, Head of BT Sport, welcomed the acquisition: 'This is yet another example of live innovation from BT Sport. Competitive interactive football gaming is a rapidly growing industry and I'm delighted that BT Sport is now able to showcase it for the first time ever in the UK.'

BT Sport has won the rights to broadcast the North American Regional Final in Vancouver on April 8, Asia-Pacific Regional Final in Singapore on April 22, European Regional Final in Madrid on May 6 as well as the showpiece FIFA 17 Ultimate Team Championship Final in Berlin on May 20 and May 21.

Lewis

Jimmy Floyd
23-02-2017, 12:46 PM
FIFA isn't even a good game. The mechanics have marginally, marginally improved year on year since about a decade ago. The difference is what people can be bothered to do.

Who would pay to watch people do that?

phonics
23-02-2017, 12:46 PM
No, it won't sell subscriptions, the show itself will be sponsored by some fast-food company (in the States likely Doritos/Mountain Dew, probably Red Bull over here) and that's where you make your money. You get a million per episode from Red Bull and then produce a show for 300k.

It's way more cost efficient than paying eleventy billion pounds for the Champions League only to have it viewed by 30 people.

Lewis
23-02-2017, 12:47 PM
In which case why charge for subscriptions at all, when being free would increase your exposure and marketing revenues?

phonics
23-02-2017, 12:51 PM
Because increased advertising dollars wouldn't cover the revenue lost from lack of subscriptions and fluctuates month to month. Subscriptions allow you to create a base revenue no matter what and then it's a matter of how much money you can make on top of that.

Jimmy Floyd
23-02-2017, 12:53 PM
You'd think the subscription TV model is going to break at some point in the future, in the same way that the newspaper model has.

I think it's the future but not in the way it's currently set-up. What the NFL have done with it's service where you either choose a team and get access to all their games or pay premium to get them all combined into an app that's on every media device from AppleTV to Xbox/Playstation to Roku boxes.

It's the only way it survives.

ItalAussie

Would make for a great final.

Reg
23-02-2017, 01:12 PM
That would be great to pay for one team. One off matches, too. You'd think they could charge an equal rate proportionally and be confident of ending up making way more.

I think Utd would be big favourites v Roma. Though I've seen much less of Roma this season than in the last few.

phonics
23-02-2017, 01:14 PM
Over here we pay per game but you don't get a choice of every game just the midday/evening kickoffs. It's ridiculously overpriced but I used it for a year or so before HD streams became easy.

Jimmy Floyd
23-02-2017, 01:18 PM
Allowing people to pay to watch one team would kill the league, and thus the PRODUCT, stone dead. There's a reason they haven't ever offered it in 20 years.

There may come a point when they have to though because people of my generation and younger just won't pay what the boomers have paid for Sky.

Probably planned to do it this week anyway and expected a shelling last night rather than a decent result.

Also talk that the massive player revolt ratcheted up last night after the team selection and there was another big bust up with Ranieri and players/staff.

As sad as it all is his position had become untenable. You can't sack all the players even if you wanted to. His job is to get the most of the squad and if he isn't doing it anymore then I suppose he had to go.
