Which is today.

It is fooking freezing, and a bit windy too. Dark nights it's really starting to feel wintery, even though it's actually the start of Autumn. I hate this weather, when it's neither proper freezing and entertaining or proper hot and cozy.

But yeah, storms n shit in here please.

Lee
23-09-2015, 03:18 PM
I hate this. About eight months until we get any nice weather now. I wouldn't mind if we got loads of frost or snow but it will just piss down and I'll never see daylight outside of working hours.

Crap isn't it? I can't stand the dark evenings, really depresses me.

Noticed it getting dark in the mornings, was getting up at 05:00 or 05:30 all Summer, could barely get out of bed today at 05:50 because it was still dark :(.

I absolutely love Autumn weather..

Perfect temperature for running/outdoor expertise (football). I like having to put the heating on and it being nice a toasty when I get in from work. Basically, I want every day to be a Sunday, and winter allows this.

I'd prefer if it were 4/5 degrees cooler actually and pitch black in the mornings.

Been nice here today, especially this morning. Took a trip to the park and didn't need a jacket. On the other hand though, it was dark out when I woke up, I'm not a fan of that.

Also getting some absolutely astonishing sunsets.

Been freezing in the house recently. A nice roaring fire sorts that out nicely. Top.

Absolutely stunning week weather wise. Topless sunbathing and it's nearly October.

Supposed to be shit at the weekend though, up here anyway. :(

So its just a bit windy and rainy out there. How are the irish/Tobes holding up?

Shindig
12-11-2015, 07:34 PM
Rainin' sideways. Should be fun if the river pops. They've got the Lumiere festival on and naturally there's a couple of things right on the riverside.

Toby
12-11-2015, 11:00 PM
They've pre-emptively closed schools here, which I think they'll regret given this is about the calmest evening of the whole week so far.

It's almost as if teachers fancied sacking it off and having Friday off :sherlock:

Toby
13-11-2015, 01:13 PM
It's more or less a typical November's day here, and yet people are pissing themselves and getting all excited as if it's the first time they've seen stormy weather. I suppose the fact a bunch of parents have had to take the day off work is playing in to that, but it's amazing the impact giving something a name can have.

Ian
13-11-2015, 08:24 PM
Last week I got caught on my way back from the train in the sort of rain normally associated with Biblical wrath-of-God tales and environmental apocalypse movies. Tonight just as I get to the station it starts chucking down with hail the size of small babies. Fuck off, Abigail.

Check out the flooding near Strabane (15 minutes away from us) today. It floods quite regularly, but I've never seen it so bad before.

We had some lying at around 6am but it had all fucked off by 9am. Today at the football was freezing, even woth. Hat, scarf amd gloves on. Hopefully we get a cold winter. If not I'll at least get a few proper winter days in Tromso in February.

Storm Desmond brought some of the worst flooding I've ever seen to Donegal yesterday. Took me three hours to do a 1.5 hour journey yesterday afternoon as one of the towns on my route was basically entirely submerged, as you can see in the picture. I think a state of emergency was declared in Ballybofey when Aldi and the local department store flooded.

Fucking hell, I was down in Wexford yesterday for a while and I thought that was bad but that is unreal. I did get diverted twice by fallen trees, but nothing near that water. The Slaney had covered a lot of fields but seemed to be ok around the towns.

CJay
06-12-2015, 02:54 PM
Huh, I didn't realise it was bad on the east coast too. It was grand going through Limavady and Derry, then all hell broke loose when I crossed the border, thankfully before the Mourne burst its banks in Strabane, otherwise I would have had a much longer detour to get home.

Giggles
06-12-2015, 03:01 PM
It was ok early but Wexford and Wicklow got changed from status yellow to orange in the early evening and got pretty hairy, the wind blowing the car on the road was as bad as I've felt. Good bit of damage around SW and W Dublin when I got back this morning too.

It's been raining for about the last 4 weeks solid, the wettest December since 1910 (awesome time to notice your roof is leaking), and I don't think I've seen the sun since then. It's absolutely appalling.

You almost never see the colour of it with the naked eye. Photographers just do really long exposures which bring all that out.

Magic

It was definitely green. Like a giant faint streak of gonnorhea discharge spunked across the night sky.

Lee
06-03-2016, 10:42 PM
Indeed. Even in Norway it wasn't vivid green like that. Started out looking like bits of cloud then ended up looking like one of those green glow in the dark toys you have as a kid. Still brilliant. Amazing when it shimmers. Definitely worth travelling to see; mind you that might be because you never see it down here.

John
30-04-2016, 10:30 AM
I've been awake for three hours and we've had glorious sunshine, torrential rain, hail, back to glorious sunshine, more hail, and it's now dark grey clouds with a peeking blue sky suggesting the rest of the day could either be incredibly sunny or incredibly sleety.

I used to lol at the sort of person who'd say 'if you don't like the weather wait ten minutes' but it genuinely fits today so far.

I'll accept whatever snowy nonsense the day brings though, because it's already brought me the biggest lol of the week. Someone who'd obviously been caught out by the early sun and dressed both himself and his child in shorts and tshirt running into the Tesco car park carrying a few bags, kicking a kerb, and going right on his face in the rain.

The number of breakdowns people have about this is (justifiably) increasing. The trains are basically seizing to a halt, not only on Southern either. If I was running a company I'd be making serious provisions for more working from home, or just moving the premises out of London.

The numbers of people commuting to London now are just far too much for the system to cope with, but for some reason nobody wants to admit it. Doesn't help that the nastiest, most useless Tory of them all, Chris Grayling, is now in charge.

Oh, I certainly agree. It's all a farce, it's essentially a stand still when the trains have their regular halt. Monday, in an office of about 80, there was no more than 20 of us who made it in with the rest working from home. It just not feasible with them stopping regularly.

Can't see much of a solution to be fair, if anything, commuting is only going to increase.
