It’s -1, minus fucking one, degrees. You’d swear by the news it was -20. There’s a cunt on now warning about how many deaths there will be. We were all going to die of the heat at 28 degrees a few months ago. Some load of shite all in the name of pushing climate change.

Spikey M
09-12-2022, 10:15 PM
There's been no mention of Climate Change here. That only happens when it's hot or a big storm turns up. Here the pressing concern is the "Cost of Living Crisis". Which is fair, because the heating actually is fucking expensive right now.

More importantly though, I've had to scrape the car windows 2 days on the trot now. Unacceptable.

The insulation on my flat is disgraceful with small gaps around windows and doors when it was built leading to draughts. My living room heater seems to be broken too and given I have a protracted move on the horizon I cba to get someone to come fix it so I've had a mix of a small ceramic fan heater and hot water bottle to get through this. Hideous waste of energy and effort.

The "out pipe" of the boiler freezing is the worst.

I had a new boiler put in in my parents house as I've had to move in here for a bit (I'm clearly cursed because after my already stellar year so far my landlord died and his estate want to sell the flat I was in) and it stopped working and the company reckoned it was this.

Out fucking watering my outpipe with hot water like a crazy person (sounded like a recipe for a cracked pipe to me but Google assures me it's fine so what's the worst that could happen?) and it hasn't even fixed it.

The lad who looked at my pipe (oi oi) said that water isn't a great solution. If doing water it should be warm, it can take a lot of it and you run the risk of burst pipe.

He said that a hairdryer is a much better option (it worked for me) and then wrap said pipe in a blanket/towels to help it not re-freeze.

However I have no idea if that will work on a boiler out pipe.

Nah, it doesn't work that way with Sudden Stratospheric Warming (or Snowmagedabombs to use the American term). The weather systems may come over here, but they're likely to just be wind and rain.

That said, a completely unrelated SSW could well send polar air down to us ala 2010, it is winter.

Shit loads of the stuff up here this morning. Must’ve been a good 3 or 4 inches.

I fobbed off going to the office and worked from home and turned out to be a great decision as the roads were chaos. Taking people 2 hours to do 4 or 5 miles.

It’s been quite nice since though so it’s largely melted. Will see how tonight goes. If it gets really cold then it’s going to be super icy tomorrow which is even worse.

When I was in Santa Cruz in Bolivia I sat in the hotel lobby waiting to be picked up by a customer, and on the TV there were images of wailing women, and children's coffins being lowered into graves on the edge of town due to the current outbreak of dengue fever. The customer then picked me up and hosted me in his back garden which was basically a swarm of mosquitoes. I said what about dengue fever, mate, and he lolled and gave me some shit repellent.

I think they just accept death in those countries.
