View Full Version : Be The Bookie

I posted this before and I'm sure there are more of you interested in doing this then posted in that thread so I'm doing it here.

We need Bookies. TG and AD have volunteered but we'll need a few more takers from a couple of regulars so they can be started when we're talking about them rather than waiting for the two of them to get online.

Right, first order of business with this is I'm not running it and I'm not sure any of the current staff are either. So we need some Bookies, this allows you to Open, Close and Settle bets. The system takes a little getting used to but it's relatively simple.

As Baz mentions you have to start a thread, fill in the various bits like you would a poll, give appropriate odds and set a closing deadline for taking bets. After the deadline the Bookie has to setlle who won the bet and confirm the winners at which point everyone gets paid.

So I can't just give Bookies rights to everyone or everyone could fuck around with it and it'd be chaos. If anyone would like to volunteer it'd be much appreciated.

A few things with vBookie
- (I think) You can only have 1 bet per thread and we don't want 30 threads clogging up the forum so selective use would be best
- I'm pretty sure you can't tag a bet onto an already created post so if you wanted a bet in the Weekend Football Thread, you'd have to create it yourself
- It'd still be cool to have a weekly betting thing as well though so anyone who really wanted to commit to the idea could make something very cool for the forum I think

As I said above if anyone would like to volunteer it'd be much appreciated.

So who wants to be a bookie? The rest of the into is here: http://www.thethirdhalf.co.uk/showthread.php?8-VBookie-UPDATED

I've lost :(

How many people will sign up to be a bookie.

Incorrect.

How many (MORE) people will volunteer, over and above the original two.

Can't believe you fuckers from the betting thread aren't stepping up to the table here. You don't even have to do anything outside of be occasionally useful :(

More interested in becoming the vCash Peter Webb than the vCash Victor Chandler tbh.

Currently considering taking bets on you completing a basic task without ending up a shivering wreck. Odds of 8000000000 to 1.

And what is vCash actually good for?

Can I sell if for money? Or is this just basically so we can do street-cred bets?

Similarly I'm considering taking bets on you completing a basic task without destroying everything around you. Odds of infinity to 1.

Phonics you prick. I'll report you to the gambling commission. That, or I'll just bet in the other categories if people start to volunteer ;)

Is it just going to be football stuff, or will the cool kids get to bet on the Wrestling? :D

Mike

You start again at 500 after 24 hours.

I would have a go at the some, I wouldn't do football though as I avoid scores on the weekend.

If no one else is willing, I'll volunteer to do UFC bets.

Although there would probably be a day or two delay as I don't watch events live anymore.

I'll help out. Will need to do some research on odds creation but the activity and popularity within the board I've got down to a tee. :P

That's 3.

Just as an FYI that means Wrestling/UFC will have to have a pay-per-view thread rather than just the standard wrasstling one etc.

Everyone who volunteered can create betting threads and setlle bets now.

1 bet per thread though, right?

So we'll likely be limited to just the main event.

It's actually quite handy though, it will drive more interest in each PPV event.

You can set it so you can bet on multiple outcomes. I'm not sure what the maximum is but you could then have a

Big Show vs John Cena (Big Show Wins)
Big Show vs John Cena (John Cena Wins)
Magic 'The Dong' Johnson vs Life (Life wins)

etc. although I'm not sure you can setlle for multiple winners. You'll have to work that out.

Might just make more sense to have a dedicated sub-forum for it? The number of bets worth doing will probably outweigh the amount of associated threads worth having in the main tth section.

For the first event this week I'll probably just keep it simple.

Roy Nelson to win or Josh Barnett.

It would be nice if a regular Football thread starter (Reg?) would volunteer.

Could get the biggest match in the Premiership that weekend in said thread.

Spurs v Man City is probably the pick of the bunch this weekend.

I'll volunteer if I can still bet on stuff. All it really takes is copy and pasting off oddschecker now and then, spend hours every day looking at that stuff anyway so wouldn't be hard for me.

It seems I can't bet on my events I've set up.

Although Phonics has bet on this, either because he is an admin and can do what he wants or I've fucked it up.

Possibly even both.
