View Full Version : How tall are you?

Spoonsky

Sponsored by Igor being shorter than his date. We might have some proper midgets on here and perhaps some giants as well, unknown until now.

I'm six foot nothing, the perfect height.

I'm 6'2", have been since I was about 14. I think I'm happy with that, not sure I'd want to be any taller.

I just very rarely have reason to measure myself (chuckle), and on the odd occasion I do I promptly forget.

No poll? Seriously? 6'2" here. You want to be between 6' and 6'3" in order to be tall but not freakishly so. I guess it depends on how skinny you are, though. I'm not gonna tell Big Show he looks like a freak.

The people of Wales seem to be giants. When I was in Cardiff even the women were over 6'.

Giants. Orange Giants.

Mexicans/Hispanics tend to get away with being tiny betas. Not as embarrassing for them.

5'8", which isn't criminally short in Italy, but in Viking-country I'm a midget.

185cm, which i think is about 6'1.

Never had to think about it. I think I'm just over the average for a bloke. Glad I'm in the 6 foot category.

Six nought, bang on. I should have been taller but stopped growing upwards at 15 and started growing outwards.

I was quite short in secondary school and in sixth form I had a massive growth spurt and stopped at 6'2. I come from a family of giants, though. My two uncles are both 6'6 and I have a few cousins who are 6'5+.

6'5" if I stand totally straight, but 6'4" as I stand normally. Reaching stuff on high shelves is the the only thing I'm good at

It absolutely is the perfect height, as well. Just about able to walk through doors without smacking my head, although I do instinctively duck a little bit anyway just to be safe.

Makes sense. I don't mind NFL, I just can't stick all the adverts.

Try Redzone on a Sunday if you fancy it.

No adverts, it's just a rolling live highlights thing.

NFL too.

Pretty much this :D Used to post in WWE too, but I've been out of there for a while now, although I still lurk to keep a vague idea of what's happening in case it stops being shit again. I don't watch football anymore, and I'm not very opinionated so my contributions aren't exactly going to amount to much outside of those few threads.

Definitely do this. RedZone is great. All the best bits, with none of the 'x rushes for 1 yard, ad break, incomplete pass, ad break, timeout, ad break, punt for fair catch' crap.

niko_cee
08-12-2016, 10:02 PM
You mean none of the actual game itself?

Dan
08-12-2016, 10:06 PM
You do miss the analysis, which is usually pretty good, and you don't really get the same feel for a specific game as you would if you watched it all, but you basically get bombarded with touchdowns, big plays & turnovers. It's like Final Score (or whatever the Sky Sports one is called) for the NFL, but you actually get the see the clip instead of just some blokes talking about what happened.

niko_cee
08-12-2016, 10:13 PM
People need to know what Troy Aikman had for lunch.

And I don't think it's like Final Score/Soccer Saturday in as much as they don't have coverage. I think Sky (and the beeb) do something like that for one of/some of the cups and it's fucking dreadful. Here's a goal, here's a goal, here's a miss. If that's what you want, meh, go watch hoppy ball.

Baz
08-12-2016, 10:15 PM
Is Sky Sports Mix (what Red Zone is on) always free or was that a limited time thing?

Sir Andy Mahowry
08-12-2016, 10:16 PM
It works better for the 9pm games as there are only 3 or 4 and with American Football it's perfect.

They make it worse by doing shit like 'THE QUADBOX' which is the screen divided into 4 to show 4 games at once. What happens is you squint and don't see shit from any of them.

Giggles
08-12-2016, 10:19 PM
It's the new 'watch everything by watching nothing' way of taking in sport. I've sound myself enjoying full games more of late, though it helps that I've had access to watch the games I actually want to see.

Only wanting to watch the best bits of sport? None of you cunts have even had to watch Ravi Jadeja rolling through 15 overs on the trot either. Ungrateful bastards.

It's the predilection for shit that makes the good stuff good. If you're watching yankeeball via highlights then surely you might as well be on YouTube wanking over 'Lionel Messi: all goals, skills, assists'.

Reg
08-12-2016, 10:48 PM
I think these things like BT's European Goal Show or whatever are made for attention-deprived young people who want to be doing crap on their iPhones and not commit to a whole 90 minutes. (The most old man sentence I've posted.)

I've grown a bit tired of watching highlights and have only watched a handful of full Match of the Days in the last few seasons. Live football is so much better.

When you've watched years of football, the magic of a goal slightly fades so seeing one live unexpectedly is the only way that magic is still retained. Whereas when you're a kid you'll happily watch MOTD and get audibly excited at every one.

John
08-12-2016, 11:05 PM
I occasionally watch the European stuff with a mate who's hopelessly addicted to gambling, and the Goal show is absolutely perfect for him to keep an eye on his eight team, six hundred to one accumulator. Previously he'd just demand the remote to put it on Sky Sports News every five minutes.

I have no problem watching a full game, just as I can quite happily sit & watch a whole day of cricket or golf, I just find RedZone more convenient than watching 10-15 hours of condensed game film every week. I do watch the more exciting games back in full though. Similarly, I'd much rather watch MotD than watch every single game all the way through each week. I have other stuff I'd like to do as well. Theoretically, anyway.

I never really got excited when I watched football, at least not to the extent everyone else seems to. I think the most excited I'd get at a live game was to go 'AYY!' at a particularly excellent or unexpected thing, then go back to sitting silently, mentally analysing the game & what changes I'd make if I were in charge. You know those managers whose teams score a 94th minute winner & they barely even acknowledge that something just happened? That's me.

I definitely find i get can lose interest in something quite easily when it starts to get formulaic though. Every England game being the same shitfest of low tempo sideways passing ruined football for me, just like every WWE match being the same ruined wrestling for me, and Vettel & Hamilton/Marquez & Lorenzo strolling to victory in every race ruined F1 & MotoGP for me.

But yeah, RedZone is a convenience choice for me, not anything to do with getting bored watching a full game.

EDIT: Did a great job killing this thread, huh? This is why I don't post in many threads :D
