View Full Version : How long do you think they'll keep ramming women's football down people's throats...

...until they wake up to the fact nobody cares?

I heard on the radio today during the travel update a small bit from the news before, and it said:

"Southgate has been appointed manager of the men's English football team"

:harold:

United refusing to waste money on a ladies team is pretty lol. Especially since City having one apparently more than makes up for being owned by human rights abusers.

Until Alex Scott finally agrees to have sex with me.

The goalkeepers are always good for a laugh, so one can glean some small enjoyment from it.

Apparently it was pretty massive until the FA banned it from being played in proper stadiums in 1921 for being 'unwomanly'. There was a book about that I was going to read which was named 'Girls with Balls' (:D).

It's fine. They mentioned 'men's team' because they followed up a headline of the women's side winning with a story about Southgate. You need that distinction, otherwise some twitter twat will giggle at some kind of Southgate job swap.

And none of the stuff about Women's football is over exposed. Plus it's only the BBC doing it.

Gotta love it when the two least desirable qualities for a goalkeeper, African and female, are combined.

I don't know the last time I heard anything about women's football so they're clearly not doing a very good job of ramming it anywhere.

I've a mate who lives in the Philippines and coaches kids out there. Nobody really gives a shit about football there so boys and girls are on an even keel and some of the best players are girls. There's 3 in particular who play in mixed games and smash the lads of the same age all over the place.

Yeah because Asian men are built like girls.

Like any sport, it's just a question of numbers and depth. The best three or four women's sides are pretty watchable but it tails off horribly after that. If you got more girls and women playing, it would improve, but nobody in (men's) football actually wants that to happen.

It's always down to money, too. For women's football to grow requires investment with very little return. Otherwise it's just a counterpart to the men's team that gets the training ground on Thursdays. And then you get the fans going, "Lol, it's shit mate." but they'll happily crack one out to women's tennis grunts.

I still remember the story about West Ham not letting its womens team use it's facilities so they had to train down the local park. :harold:

Here it is in the Guardian, because of course it fucking is.
