Following on from the discussion last week following this superb goal kick from Karius - it was discovered that had Karius kicked the ball directly into his own net, a corner is awarded to the opposing team, not an own goal (or a retake).

Today I discovered that an own goal cannot be scored directly from a corner - that is, if for some reason a team wanted to waste time and leathered the ball backwards and it bounced over the keepers head, then no goal is scored. It doesn't actually say what would happen - I guess following on from the above, a corner kick would be awarded to the opposition. Basically, an own goal can't be scored from any direct restarted play (corners, throws, free kicks etc).

Any other quirks?

Oh, another one... free kicks inside your own six yard box can be taken anywhere in the 6yr area, not just where the foul happened. This was one rings a bell, and kind of makes sense with goal kicks having the same freedom.

It's illegal to abuse pre-teens that you are coaching. Not many people knew that until recently.
