It's fucking cold and miserable outside so time to start appreciating the finer things this time of year.

A) Duvets
B) comfortable and warm socks
C) hot chocolate
D) Lindt chocolate balls
E) Soup and tiger bread
f) Early nights
G) bulking season providing an excuse for being fat

What stuff do you appreciate in winter time to take your mind off the shit climate we live in.

Winter clothes (especially coats). It's impossible to dress well in the summer.

Pigs in blankets.

An excuse to buy massive amounts of booze/food

They have a fucking goal across the middle of the road and just gormlessly stare at you when you want to drive to your house.

There's a massive park area about a hundred yards away too :moop:

Having your heating included in your rent.
Stuffing your face is pretty boss, but I don't necessarily stop for summer.
I like the dark, crisp evenings in the run up to Christmas. Its around January they get quite shit.

Early finishes.
Buying alcohol and chocolates that I'd not bother with at any other time.
I dunno, 'warmth'. I hate these storage heaters.

Apparently M&S have a scotch egg with a runny centre every time. That sounds rather special. I've never understood the adoration for pork pies when scotch eggs are clearly superior. So much better than sausage rolls as well.

Exactly, although there are some shit pork pies out there.

Puff pastry is nice. The pastry you get with pork pies is a bit shit, then you've got the weird jelly, then substandard meat. Some of the more upmarket sausage rolls are banging, though. Black pudding in sausage rolls and scotch eggs is fantastic.

I had a warm scotch egg the other day. It was phenomenal.

Every year I do one of those and a pecan. Wouldn't be Christmas without them.

Banoffee pie is the balls.

Pork pie is overrated. I've got friends who go mad for it but I just think it's dry and shit. Any moisture in it is from the weird jelly gunk that looks like something you'd pull out of your nose.

The big one that has eggs in it is nice. Though they've less pastry which is a low point.

I'm going to try a bit of cream cheese in the cream for the banoffee this year. It might not be as good but it'll still be good, so worth the risk.

It is fucking delicious though.

It doesn't really. It's epic at Christmas, it's epic in June.

Also forgot the trifle, made with baileys instead of sherry. Can't wait

I got some pork pies from Morrisons yesterday and they were great, I assume they were made in store along with their sausage rolls which are equally immense. Shame the rest of the shop is such a suppurating bumhole.

I've never had banoffee pie (partly because of the shit portmanteau name), is it served warm? I suppose it must be with the toffee etc.

I like banoffie pie, but it is a bit too hit 'n' miss to be the sort of thing you would regularly choose.

Pork pie is not a winter treat, game and rabbit pie however most definitely are.

I used to pick up a few from the market in Swansea, huge things at a tenner for two that were far too popular amongst the exes family (I wanted them to myself).

Will be extra pleasant this year as fits my largely veggie diet of only eating meat where sourced from small welfare conscious farms. Picking up 4 of the fuckers in a fortnights time and freezing them until the big day(s).

Banoffee is not a Christmas thing.

I love the tiramisu and pandoro my nan ends up buying making. It's just a great time to indulge in cheese and wine and not worry about overeating.

Bitterly cold mornings as well are great especially when you walk in like I do. And they're great on a Saturday playing football.

Christmas cake, mince pies, mulled wine and bitchin' cheese boards.

Hot chocolate and winter soups.

Christmas Eve curry is a tradition for us all now as it's our friend's birthday. Includes a wacky secret santa where someone invariably gets a sex toy, last year it was his mum.

I think the whole week around Christmas is incredible. Everybody back home and about. Boxing Day especially as everybody just picks a pub and watches the footie all day. Its glorious. Each year we have a kick about as well, which gets better each year as kick abouts are so incredibly rare these days.

It's not really a christmas thing but I've decided to buy a bottle of Baileys, cos "it's christmas".

No I would tend to agree. Also desert liquers like Amaretto. Wholly unacceptable for consumption out with the Christmas period.

The design is perfect because it allows you to take the lid off and put a spoonful of clotted cream inside.
