View Full Version : Black Friday 2016

Black Friday is this Friday - 25th November - but it seems like it lasts all week for most shops.

I've booked Friday and Monday off, but I don't plan on leaving the house. Online shopping ftw. I've already bookmarked all the Christmas presents I plan on buying.

Today I discovered Camel (http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/) where you can set it to alert you when certain products go below a certain price.

Any of you lot seen/heard of any good deals? Got any plans for Friday?

Hot UK Deals' Amazon Lightning Deals (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/amazon-uk/lightning-deals) is a bit easier to browse than

I plan on buying a Kindle Oasis on Friday (deal or not) so will use it to get £5 off. I've also tracked it on Camel so will be made aware if it goes even 1p cheaper.

This is a great way to spot a mug. Most of the shit that it sold is stuff they haven't been able to shift ahead of Xmas. It's great way for retailers to free up inventory space I suppose, although it being an 'event' is pretty lol

This. Personally I put all shopping on hold til it's over. Mainly just stuff they've bumped up a month ago so they can say it's reduced now.

Though it works in fairness.

What do they do to recover the costs of all the redundant stuff?

Amazon Fire stick though, no joy at all. Got some error I can't remember that indicated the TV was too old to display images so I got sound and a bright green screen. Got a newer TV since but as it's a smart model there's no point bothering with the Fire.

https://www.cnet.com/uk/news/can-4k-tvs-make-1080p-look-better/

So can good scaling make a 1080p image look good on a 4K TV? Compared to that same content badly upconverted, yes. In CNET's reviews of the better 4K TVs, we've found that 1080p Blu-ray upconverted to the 4K screens looks great, although not appreciably better than 1080p on a 1080p TV.

So at my price range, a 4K TV probably isn't going to be good enough for it to look decent.

Also, if you read that comment I posted from HUKD, that one's just the same as Bush etc. They're all made by Vestel and just have badge slapped on them. So although JVC sounds like a decent brand, it's not really all that good.

Isn't it basically PaRappa the Rapper for people who think they're fun?

Lewis

Come to think of it, PaRappa the Rapper was probably the worst game ever.

The follow-up, PaRappa the Raper, was worse

It's basically that I associate Guitar Hero with Fry, and you can just imagine him thinking he's amazing really going for it 'as a joke', but still doing it for the full level even after Boydy and Pavel (and maybe even Noogle) stopped laughing after six seconds.

Bought this tv (http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-home-entertainment/televisions/televisions/samsung-ue40k5600-smart-40-led-tv-10145698-pdt.html) in the end.

It was on this list (http://www.techradar.com/news/television/best-tv-2013-what-tv-should-you-buy-this-year-709255).

I picked it up this morning. It seems pretty good so far.

I've been onto Live Chat asking for it to be refunded. "A member of Amazon.es will contact you," says Vijay from .co.uk

I could refuse delivery and order another but for the cost of Vijay's hourly wage, I'm alright.
