View Full Version : Young players who could be brilliant

I had my first good look at Gianluigi Donnarumma when Milan beat Juventus recently, and I would be shocked if he doesn't go on to be the best keeper in the world. Unless something goes spectacularly wrong, he'll be the Italian goalkeeper for at least a decade. Heck, he's only 17 and he's making the squad (and has played 45 matches for Milan already), so it could even be two decades.
Who are the sure things in football at the moment?

I think Julian Joachim's breakthrough season is right round the corner.
Donnarumma will either be at Sunderland by age 23 or like you said, be one of the world's best for the next 20 years.
Although he's cooled off since going mental in front of goal at the start of the season, Tammy Abraham has been pretty impressive. 12 goals already, 9 in the league for Bristol City.

Who were the previous great young Italian goalkeepers? I remember Roma spending about fifteen million quid on a twenty year old Ivan Pelizzoli, and he never graduated from being a flapping mess (although he was immense for me in Russia on Football Manager).

It may be because I haven't played enough FM in the last few years, but other than Don-a-roomer I can't think of a single highly regarded teenager in world football at the moment.
I was wondering yesterday what had happened to Thiago Alcantara, and then I realised he's probably still donning it, because I haven't watched a Bayern game for at least three years.

Current evidence paints him as a complete tosser, but that's what being 21 does for you, plus there's nothing stopping complete tossers from being decent (see Suarez. L for evidence).

There was nothing like the hype around James Wilson there is around Rashford, and rightly so. You're so anti-United it makes you genuinely delusional.

He would benefit leaving on loan but then again I'm of opinion that he'll not make the grade. I mean let's face it, Rashford 2016 is basically James Wilson 2014. Young striker comes in, makes an impression based purely on those surrounding him looking shit all season, scores a few goals, maybe runs around a little bit and then before you know it the media have latched on, it's Rashford/Wilson/Burke/Oxford/Gray etc etc for England. Fast forward a year to 18 months and said player will be in Championship or the SPL.
United have past form more than most here. Will Keane was next big thing, currently at Hull. Paddy McNair was going to be a squad player for years to come, currently at Sunderland. Blackett, impressed, injured player returned, he goes back to reserves and now he's at Wolves?
When Jesse Lingard is your best product, you know something is going wrong somewhere.
Comparing Rashford to James Wilson is easily the craziest thing I've seen written on here. Wilson has scored 3 goals for Man Utd in 4 years (two of which came in a dead rubber end of season game), didn't Rashford score 4 goals within about 3 days?

I saw glimpses of Patrick Roberts last season that made him look like the messiah but he's been pretty hit or miss for Celtic this season.
Wouldn't surprise me if someone paid a load for Pione Sisto soon.
Johannes Eggestein has taken the piss at every age group in Germany so far.
Passlack already looks pretty complete.
Deyna Castellanos is easily the best young female player in the world. This is her at the u17 world cup recently, the second one is right after conceding a stoppage time equaliser

I've got a pretty fantastic strike rate tbf.
Over the last couple of years you've done alright on Manchester United predictions, because you've just predicted that they'll fall apart at every available opportunity and they largely have done. You've been doing exactly the same thing for about fifteen years though, so in net terms you're just about the least credible person in the world.

I say it as I see it and all I see is shit when I look in that direction. :sorry:
It's just a bullshit club tbf.
I'm not particularly a fan of either club but there is surely no way in hell you can sit there with a straight face as a Liverpool fan and call Utd a bullshit club.

You see it with a clear, strong bias.
The same as Liverpool who you've followed the graph exactly for years and claimed that every youth will be the next big thing.
Nemeth, Yesil, Ibe, Kelly, Suso etc.

There's no doubt whatsoever there. Often wrong about Liverpool but otherwise I'm quite handy I reckon.
You're not.
You claim all Liverpool youth will make it and all United youth wont make it.
You're always going to have a 'better strike rate' when it comes to United because most youth prospects we see aren't cut out for the higher Premiership levels that those two teams are at.

Right, but your predictions being exactly the same for the last fifteen years show that they're not really based on anything you're seeing in the real world. You hate Man United, so they must always lose. You love Liverpool, so they must always win. Start keeping a scoreboard of those predictions you make in every weekend football thread if you actually want to start claiming you're Mystic Smiff.

The reason it was a one horse race was because they were so fucking good.
Sir Andy Mahowry
07-11-2016, 03:25 PM
Find an example of Nemeth or Yesil.
Kelly would have been a completely different footballer if not for missing nearly three years through injuries, Suso is tearing it up elsewhere as he was too lightweight whilst Ibe's biggest problem is his inconsistency. Sterling was the one I got excited and rightly so.
As a side note, if you do your home work you'll see most Liverpool youngsters that make our first team on average go on to make more appearances than their Manchester counter parts.
I would if the old board wasn't completely dead.
You're effectively a football Harold. Claim so much bollocks but when one thing sort of sticks you claim an 'e-victory' whilst also ignoring all the things you got wrong.
Lewis
07-11-2016, 03:32 PM
United's constant failure to rise to new challengers would explain those dozen titles Arsenal and Chelsea shared before City arrived on the scene.
So Tyler Blackett gets injured and goes to shit and that proves Man Utd are a bullshit club but it says nothing about Liverpool when Kelly lost years through injury and is now nothing special? Okay.

It made me lol when I said it was unusual for Lallana to have seemingly suddenly become much better at like 26 years old and you (and Taz I think) said I was retarded and it wasn't unusual at all, but then said Lingard was too old to ever be good enough about two weeks later.
Rashford will be great. Fosu-Mensah could be, but he hasn't played enough to be able to tell.
Riechedly Bazoer
I like the sound of him.
Is Freddy Adu 21 yet?
It really wouldn't surprise me if it turned out he was one of those that faked his age. I bet he's 40 now.

Ousamane Dembele at Dortmund looked ace the couple of times I saw him. The other Dembele at Celtic seems to be doing well too.
Renato Sanches seems the surest bet (outside of Donnarumma) as he's already "made it".
Has Odergaard or whatever his name is made it onto the pitch yet?

Rashford could go on to be properly good, but he could just as easily end up with a column on BBC sport talking about how he likes Frosties.
As a young and exciting forward he's also hardly in the best hands with Mourinho too.

This the "New Zlatan" kid, I've heard about? Is he a similar kinda player?
Dembele at Celtic is probably the one I can talk about with the most certainty. He'll be excellent. A twenty five goal a season man for someone in one of the 'top' leagues within a couple of years.

Tottenham missed a trick there. Didn't they have him for a million quid in January and it fell through because they wouldn't loan him back to Fulham til June?
Totally forgot about Sanches. He's a boss already. In a way it's a shame he went to Bayern as he could be the main man in a bucketload of teams.
Celtic Dembele looked good against City; Dortmund Dembele did nothing v Leverkusen but I'll try and see him again.

I agree. I do try to get out to games whenever Brisbane come to play in Sydney, although it's tricky to get out to see the Wanderers.
I enjoy going to Sydney FC games, but it doesn't quite have the same feel as when you support one of the teams. See also: AFL.
