Last minute shite effort. Does anyone else watch this sport any more?

Why is Dier playing in this as a defender? Is the Austrian lad injured?

Adamski
18-10-2016, 07:23 PM
No, he's horseshit.

Raoul Duke
18-10-2016, 07:25 PM
Spurs playing some cracking stuff here. They're a Harry Kane short of giving this lot a pasting.

They've found their new Rebrov anyway in this lumbering goon.

The Dutch guy? He looks like he just needs a goal to get going. Decent movement and he's got in the right places.

I noticed watching England U20's the other day that something like 8 players were black or mixed race. And now, watching City U19's, only 1 outfield player is white.

Whenever you see youth football nowadays, the percentage of black players is much (much, much) higher than the national average.

Is there anything in this? I was thinking that it may be a socio economic thing (lack of opportunity, quality of education), but just look at Liverpool... it's a dump and still doesn't produce any decent footballers.

Sir Andy Mahowry
19-10-2016, 03:54 PM
Naturally stronger and faster?

Reg

This City Barca game should be good. Needs to make up for Monday.

No Aguero is a shame. Looks like de Bruyne false 9 maybe.

Wonder if they'll put Sterling on the left as him vs Mascherano would be interesting.

I don't think footballers/coaches appreciate set plays anymore. They seem considerably worse at penalties, corners and free-kicks than they were, say, in the 90s.

I miss that old routine Spurs would do with Anderton and Sherrington setting each other up. Plus, right, indirect free-kicks inside the box. They stopped when Shearer hung up his boots.

Reg
19-10-2016, 08:55 PM
Was that Sheringham doing his glancing headers?

And Shearer was good at them. Knew how to smash a ball, that guy.

Raoul Duke

Yeah. Mincing about with it at the back and passed it to Suarez, then 'saved' it 35 yards from his goal line.

Jose Mourinho threw that 5-0 to prove they had to win those games by being terrible. That 4-1 in 2008 was good as well, since Frank Rijkaard actually deflated.

Reg
19-10-2016, 11:06 PM
The time Ronaldinho showed them up and got a standing ovation from the Real fans was fun too. Games between those two used to be good; it feels like they haven't had a genuinely good match in years.

Nah, I started watching football in 97/98.

The 5-0 was more impressive as I remember it.

Stunning from Lingard.

Sir Andy Mahowry
20-10-2016, 07:54 PM
Did Savage attempt to say Paulp Ogba and then stop himself?

Lewis
20-10-2016, 08:03 PM
Why do BT think that they can get away with such terrible coverage/punditry? Forget Sky. Even Match of the Day makes the effort now.

Reg
20-10-2016, 08:15 PM

Yep!

Nice goal from Lingard, he's been good tonight.

Rooney looks much, much better up front.

Magic
20-10-2016, 08:16 PM
Dundalk beating Zenit. Lol.

Ian
20-10-2016, 08:18 PM
It is legitimately terrible as well. When Jamie was literally watching men kick that football into that box so somebody could get his head on that ball to literally head it into that net you could at least understand that his fellow idiots might be enjoying his shiny suits and stories about his dad's dog trying to kill his mum but BT's coverage is worse than that somehow, and they don't even care.

Michael Owen gives so few shits it's amazing.

Max Power
20-10-2016, 08:21 PM
Dundalk

Great story.

Jimmy Floyd
20-10-2016, 08:24 PM
I'd happily watch a 24 hour marathon of their football coverage if it means I never have to encounter the KP/Swann/Vaughan trio of doom that is going on their upcoming cricket coverage.

How is Zenit's full side of internationals losing to a bunch of Irish pub players? What English league would Dundalk be in, Two?

Giggles

Upper half of L2 would be about right. A couple of players who would be solid in the Championship.

The fact they can play decent stuff against considerably better teams puts the international side to shame for the shit they produce.

Reg

Hargreaves and particularly McManaman are decent commentators. But most of the punditry is rubbish and Savage is a truly awful commentator.

Scholes is capable of good telly such as this (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LLGUrLXAjA0) but probably too rarely.

Lewis
20-10-2016, 08:30 PM
Paul Scholes is a shit pundit, and you have to wonder why he even bothers.

'Michael Carrick. Ryan knows the club. No character. Michael Carrick.'

Scholes' first appearances on Sky he was alright and then he probably realised he doesn't want to be hated enough to be honest.

I think Baillys attempt at defending that cross could be the laziest effort I've ever seen.

Reg
20-10-2016, 08:53 PM
He totally slacked off there. The team in general had a little bit.

They've done quite well, Carrick has been good and Rooney has probably played as well as he has done for months. Fernerbahce don't exactly look a great team though.

Lewis
20-10-2016, 09:05 PM
Rooney at least running around whilst being crap should ask questions of 'Zlatan' and whether he gets the best out of the mobile midfield.

Always going to run out of puff. 5th game in the past 12 days and they've all been ones they couldn't rest many in with the title run and a cup semi. Not that they've many players to rotate anyway.

Most of the squad is out of contract after the final league game anyway so if they do make the knockouts I'm not sure what happens.
