Since when does Gotze play for Dortmund again? German football is so weird and incestuous.

Jimmy Floyd

German football is just a story of Bayern being six times bigger than any of the others (including Dortmund, who are relative upstarts historically).

Magic
27-09-2016, 08:13 PM
We've been incredible since Pontus Jansson signed on loan to us. He went off injured at half time after us pretty much dominating the game against Brizzle and one of our useless wanks from last season is on and we've fallen apart. Bartley has turned in to a mess almost immediately.

Poor Akinfeev, 20 minutes away from his first clean sheet in a decade in the Champions League and then Son pops up.

Every time I see results he seems to have scored these days. Has was fucking terrible any time I see him last season, is he any better or is he just going through a run where the head-down speculative shots are going in?

Only himself to blame, it was straight at him.

Brugge have been fisted by Copenhagen who look really good.

Leicester could be troubled in the next two games by them.

Magic

They'll beat them 2-0 at home and 2-1 away.

Sir Andy Mahowry

That was a brilliant volley at the death from Glik. Christ knows how a Polish centre back has that composure and skill.

My assessment of this thread thus far is that nobody cares about European football unless proper English clubs are playing, and that neither Leicester nor Spurs are proper English clubs.

John Arne
28-09-2016, 03:18 AM
I think it's a mixture of the group stage being largely boring and irrelevant. That, and Leicester aren't exactly interesting to watch, and Spurs are Spurs.

Ian
28-09-2016, 05:55 AM
Only Champions League games I watch now it's all BT are ones I go out of my way to see. I need streams, which I can't be arsed with, or to go somewhere specifically to watch it. If it was on Sky still or if I had BT it'd be on the telly while I had FM on the go or something.

Giggles
28-09-2016, 06:22 AM
Same as that. Can't get BT/Eir and streams aren't worth the hassle.

Kikó
28-09-2016, 06:26 AM
Just like the cricket. Get it off free to air and numbers dwindle.

It's a pain to stream.

Jimmy Floyd
28-09-2016, 07:47 AM
I haven't watched a single European game (including Chelsea, though that's not a problem this year) since it went to BT. Sports administrators are very short-sighted about this stuff. The golf people taking the Open off the BBC was literally madness.

Giggles

It's impossible to care about group stage matches, structured as they are to give the big clubs as little scope as possible for falling out of the tournament. It becomes interesting in the knock-out stages.

Sir Andy Mahowry
28-09-2016, 07:01 PM

The interest is whether the unfancied sides can get results. And sometimes you just get a good game of football (like this one is shaping up to be), and you don't need much of a reason for that.

Edit- 2-1 Celtic. This is good.

You're both reading too much into me there, I only meant that Atletico are shite at penalties. I've seen them miss three big ones in a row, plus losing the final in a shootout. As it happens I agree more with Waff, they were looking good there, they're much more than a sound defensive team. Griezmann is still a massive bottler.

Waffdon

He's missed two penalties in a final and then last night from what I recall recently. Atletico won a shoot out against PSV last year. Their problem is that Oblak is fucking terrible at saving them for reason.

Mellberg
29-09-2016, 11:59 AM
That missed penalty saved/won me £90. Had no more goals on from about 50 mins @ 2.5

Bit of luck, but Atletico are so bloody predictable. Which is why they'll do well again.

He really should have made the 33 man international preliminary, that tonight is in line with how he's been performing consistently lately. Though even if O'Neill doesn't fancy him, his excuse was a piss poor cop out.
