Seems like the right wing resurgence isn't merely a phenomenon confined to the West:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/437950/japans-new-fascism

"In 2013, at a Nippon Kaigi party celebrating Shinzo Abe’s new appointments to his cabinet — 15 of whose 18 members were Nippon Kaigi-niks — the old imperial “Rising Sun” flag was flown, pledges to “break away from the postwar regime” were made, and the (very short and controversial) imperial national anthem was sung."

There are still plenty of Rangers fans furious that we were liquidated based primarily on the expected result of a court case which we ultimately won, but nobody will be arsed over Siri getting the date wrong. They don't even have a quote from Facebook or Twitter to back up their headline, that's how poor it is.

Incidentally I'm the least furious Rangers fan you're likely to meet when it comes to that stuff. I advocated early and often for just taking the relegation on the chin and working our way back up.

Indeed, and it's been nearly a year since I got this and Friday was the first time I even considered it. As it happened it probably took less time to download a copy of what I wanted to watch than it would have done to go upstairs and dig through the box of dvds that I haven't unpacked since I moved. There should be a drive on the older PC actually, which is on the same network but I haven't set up a proper separate monitor for that yet and running it through my second screen is annoying so bollocks to that.

What times we live in, where I don't consider two monitors to be quite enough.

On a self-recorded YouTube video,[8] CJ claims to have had a highly abusive childhood, causing him to run away from home shortly after his seventeenth birthday and become homeless beginning in Rotherham and Sheffield. The video described how he travelled to London, jumped on a ferry to Amsterdam and later moved on to Cologne, where a chance encounter outside a gay bar led to the beginnings of his modelling career. De Mooi said that in 1988 he may have killed a man who was attempting to mug him by punching and throwing him into a canal in Amsterdam.[9]

GS
02-10-2016, 11:10 PM
When they had a referendum on the Good Friday Agreement here, it was a landslide 'Yes' vote. There was a small hardcore on the republican side who considered it a sell-out, and a somewhat larger minority on the unionist side who weren't having anything to do with "Sinn Fein IRA" - but most people just wanted the fucking thing to be over with.

We let out the prisoners as well, but there's nobody today - who should be taken seriously, anyway - who can say we'd have been better off if the GFA had been rejected.

For all the shite this place gets, the peace process here is probably as good a benchmark as any of how to deal with these things.

The south had to have a separate referendum to amend their constitution, in effect recognising the right of self-determination for the north and not claiming jurisdiction over 'the six counties'. That got about 94% of the vote, so presumably the only people who voted against it were Gerry Adams' mates and a few embittered Irish speakers in the Gaeltacht.

The yes vote in Colombia was concentrated in the areas with violence, apparently. It was the areas less affected which voted no - I suppose it's easy to be militant when you're not affected by it.

If you'd run it across the whole UK, turnout probably wouldn't have been that high. Would that many people really have cared? It probably would have been voted down through a coalition of white nationalist skinheads who would want the IRA summarily executed and hard left IRA sympathisers who would reject any deal not ending the "British imperial presence".

It's probably a good job it didn't go to an all UK vote, because fuck that.

Your early childhood was the early nineties, when it was moving towards the ceasefire, it's initial breaking (bombing of Canary Wharf) it's re-establishment and then the GFA. It was definitely prevalent as a result, but probably not at the forefront of the national consciousness in the preceding years - outside the major incidents.

There were a number of high profile incidents, like the mortar attack on Downing Street and the Brighton bombing - but I'm far from convinced it was a sufficiently prevalent issue in "GB" that most would have been overly fussed about some peace deal going to a referendum. Quite a lot of people over there don't realise we're even in the UK, for fuck sake.

He's been at short odds for a decade, so it's not that surprising. Plenty of writers have won in the past for their work in poetry. The fact that Dylan sings his is largely immaterial.

Every now and then, with the science ones, you get a result that obviously warrants acknowledgement immediately (Higgs et al. getting it immediately after the discovery of the Higgs Boson), but they are very much the exception. Every now and then, with the science ones, you get a result that obviously warrants acknowledgement immediately (Higgs et al. getting it immediately after the discovery of the Higgs Boson), but they are very much the exception. Most of the science awards are given out many years after the discovery, once its long-term impact has a little bit of context.

It's basically how the honours system used to work before Tony Blair ruined it. Edmund Hillary got his knighthood as soon as he got down, and rightly so. But if you're a cyclist then let's give it a few decades because who cares about cycling mate.

Very high opinion of your own singing voice.

Compared to them two? I sound like a cat being raped with a spade and that's still superior to off-key Dylan and the other drooling mess.

If you're going to have honours, that seems the smartest way to do it. :nodd:

Sounds like a good job until it leads to you getting bummed/bumming.

That's nothing. When my sister was doing the modelling she was getting four figure offers for some of the most disgusting things you could possibly imagine. Pissing on a camera pales in comparison.

Mahow's a changed man these days though. Can't keep criticising him for his past mistakes.

Given that the view from my window looks like the apocalypse has started I'm going to guess that whoever said this fire was 'under control' was being rather optimistic.

Scottish RSPCA thing MD is getting paid way more than the PM.

For a charity that's had a big loss in income. So fucking lol at that. Never donating again. Not that I did to that Staffie saving shitfest anyway.

lol at Durgeon getting paid that much, for a nation famed for being tight you scotch do like to waste a lot of money, just look at what was spaffed on your truly awful parliament building. It's almost as if that stereotype wasn't based in fact.

The stereotype was presumably formed before they started using our money for everything.

All the crap about Poppy's on shirts made me aware that FIFA also outlow commercial messages;

Fifa, who govern world football, say they do not allow any political, religious or commercial messages on shirts.

Sure a Nike or Adidas logo is a commercial message.... and what about the massive '3' logo that Ireland used?

Ireland don't wear the 3 in games, it's only on the replicas. I think we've had a sponsor on that since the early 80's. Bit of a pisser you could never buy a jersey back in the day without Opel on it though.

We did manage to get a Rising centenary shirt through vs the Swiss earlier this year though

I used to think the same, but I've come around the past month. It's a great sport. That's not even relevant though.

The Cubs are one of the most popular teams in the country but hadn't won a World Series since 1908. The closest analogy I could come to would be Leicester winning the league last season, but if Leicester had as many fans as Manchester United.

Raoul Duke

To be fair, that's a 108-year wait to life the trophy. Even if baseball (a.k.a. rounders for Americans) is terrible, then you can respect the level of achievement.

Spoonsky

The Cubs' drought is folklore. We were on a river cruise in Chicago in 2008 and the guide said that if the Cubs ever won the World Series they'd add a fifth star to the city's flag. It's genuinely surreal to see them win it.

On a side note, I always assumed baseball was sort of equivalent to cricket?
