Easy, my dad squatted one in Brixton years ago. Even started making improvements. Had to laugh when he bemoaned some Serbians squatting it in his absence.

It's not so easy these days. Residential Squating is now criminal so the police can turf you out. Squating in Commercial buildings is still a civil matter though, so you can get a good 6 months out of an abandoned office block if you know what you're doing.

I don't imagine it's nice, but surely nobody thinks this is how you stop it from happening? When I was at school a boy successfully managed to get one of the teachers to cry and that was it. She was hounded relentlessly until she left. School kids are like sharks, if they scent blood it's game over... and here's this cunt crying to the BBC. :happycry:

The most successful teachers were the ones that could take the ribbing and give it back. Although the teacher that was best at that might have taken it a bit too far at times. (https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/teacher-who-kicked-schoolgirl-branded-12469517)

We had a teacher that would yell "Sit down" and "Shut up." whenever the kids got out of hand. It got to a point where the kids just yelled that back at him. The whole class. Every lesson.

Some reports suggest the taxi arrived already on fire so not a car bomb, which sounds more likely given the pictures I saw had no damage to anything except the taxi. Usually these bombs are rammed full of shrapnel for maximum effect.

EDIT: seen another picture now with a nearby car on fire and the subsequent response is very terror orientated.

Cabbie has clocked the guy acting suspicious and refused to stop. Carried on to the nearest hospital and jumped out of the car locking the guy inside. Taxi driver is pretty torn up and obviously the guy with the bomb is now in a lot of pieces.

Armed police and negotiators have arrived at a street in the city connected to it and most of the street is evacuated now.

I had to write an essay about this for a course I did at work but essentially the reason we are wank is due to short sightedness. When the electrified the Heathrow line in the 90s a lot of lessons were learned and skills developed that were then lost by not commissioning any other projects. By the time the next one was commissioned everyone involved in the last one had retired, so they had to start from scratch with the talent pool.

Compare that with a country like Germany where they constantly have a slate of projects going to ensure they retain a pool of talent that can work on whatever they need.

There is no understanding of the railway at a political level. They announced Ł500m to reopen closed stations and lines a while backed which was opened lolled at in my office, local councillors reckoning it would only cost Ł15m to reopen their line that has been shut for decades. It cost Ł7m to relay the coping stones at Wigan North Western so good luck with that, Grandad.

It's a joke at this point isn't it. The business case was weak at its starting price and non-existent at its current (and eventual) price. Then they moved the argument to capacity, but that doesn't necessitate high-speed rail, and they only plan to have a few trains running on it anyway, so you could just upgrade the other main lines or build new ones for a fraction of the cost. Local authorities were bounced into it because it was that or nothing, when every single one of them could spend the money better, and then you could just re-build the Great Central Main Line which follows much of the same route. I always felt part of it was an indirect way of pulling the Midlands into the London commuter orbit and preserving South East property prices, but now it's simply at the too many people would look stupid if it was canned stage (see: Afghanistan).

Skaven are cool in Total War: Warhammer II. They were sort of forgotten about in fantasy before the [old] world was blown up and replaced with banter (https://www.escapistmagazine.com/8-ridiculous-rules-from-the-new-warhammer-age-of-sigmar/). Exactly. I have no idea if they have the same laws (those were some funky Floridian statutory expansions of the concept of self-defence no?) that led to that in Minnesota (was it?) but if they did then there would have been no point even going to trial. As it is (assuming they don't have those laws) it's still probably 'self-defence' even in the vanilla situation. The problem is being allowed to walk the streets with an AR-15, not the legal mechanics of what happens when you defend yourself from a perceived threat.

70% of it. Most states have similar. Likely prosecutors choose the wrong charges due to public pressure because nobody understands the technical nature of the law. Reckless endangerment (“I don’t really have a clue as the the exact charge in Wisconsin) would probably have been better but the left / right divide would still be upset because we all pretend we understand a technical area we are genuinely clueless about.

30% is that defendant’s rights are very robust here. You wouldn’t know it due to our prison population but if you can afford competent defense prosecuting cases is tough. Most people can’t so they fall prey to the plea bargain system and can’t take access of their rights. Leading to shit cops who get away with being shit, prosecutors with political ambitions not really being able to actively try cases, and poor people having the same rights but lacking the ability to actually access them.

Social media abuse is a much friendlier topic for middle class moral posturing, which is what people in power are interested in doing. Difficult questions are only allowed to be asked of lower-educated sectors like footballers and the police.

The David Amess thing suddenly turning into a social media abuse debate despite having literally nothing to do with it should be studied in sociology departments, and would be if they weren't part of the problem.

It presumably rose through the nineties and beyond as kids started shagging more but there wasn't any free contraception or 'education' about how it would ruin your life. Does anyone take money off the fire brigade who killed the people who might have got out? You could end up with your head right up your arse going down that road, so hopefully Mercedes start publishing crank letters about every shitty government/opposition decision.

The Fire Brigade got off far too lightly for their part in that. Sticking to a "stay put, we'll come and get you" strategy in a post 9/11 world is criminal. Especially when they couldn't get past the first few floors, but the people on the phoneline were still telling people on the top floor to stay put as their rooms filled with smoke. Only the people that ignored them survived.

I thought about this a lot when watching the 9/11 documentaries, but if I was in a situation with any hint of fire there is not a chance in hell I'd stay put.

There's a Dispatches on Channel 4 about it that I'd recommend. The Fire Brigade barely even accept wrong doing. It's mental.

I assume it's to stop clogged stairwells during any rescue attempts. I'd be out like a shot, though.

The official line is that each of the flats are cleaned cement structures in their own right and that fire transfer between them is basically impossible, so staying put SHOULD have been the right response. But that kind of falls apart when you can quite clearly see that the entire fucking building is on fire and it was getting in window by window.

There was just nobody willing to deviate from the fire pla that was in place, even though the fire plan was for an individual flat being on fire. Not the entire bock.

It was a very interesting dynamic how the fire brigade got zero criticism for basically doubling the death toll at Grenfell, compared to what the police get in situations of much lesser seriousness. It's a media narrative thing of some sort.

I suppose when people die because of the Fire Brigade it's usually a failure/accident. When people die because of the police it's it's usually through an act of violence.

It's hard to spin a shooting in the same way as you can people dying in a fire. You can't just say "we did our best" in the same way.

Other planned measures include using drug dealers' seized phones to message their clients to discourage drug use.

Genius. Problem solved lads.

I always get reminded of this scene in the Wire when policy wonks start talking about drugs.

Full Rescorla is the only option in any building damage scenario and the only cunts advising you stay put are the ones in a position of safety.

I love the idea of there being better and worse ways to fire someone. I mean, don't laugh in their faces (or they might come murder you), but if I am going to be fired, who the fuck cares if it is through a Zoom call, a meeting in the office, or a fucking letter?

I've been sacked in worse ways. "We just need your badge. We'll replace it tomorrow." And then I get a call from the agency as soon as I've clocked out. :D

Logically it makes very little difference whether you lose your job via text message or a one on one meeting, but from a personal stand point it definitely gives you the measure of the man. In this instance my measurement tells me he will be a manlet. 5' 8" maximum. I bet he loved it.

He'd have various underlings that could have done it. There's no reason for a CEO to muddy their hands with it.

So he does it because he wants to and no doubt had a raging below average erection whilst doing so.

In a call that large you could probably shout 'fuck off you twat' and get away with it.
