They probably didnt even want to murder Mark Duggan in cold blood and then plant a pistol on him but Twitter told them he was a bad man so they just shot him 7 times.

I've genuinely no idea how or why you think I'm saying that or anything like it.

The former head of the met said ‘when we heard what he did we said we don’t consider him a police officer’. It literally doesn’t matter what any of them do. The institution protects itself. Nothing to do with Twitter, public opinion, the law, anything. It’s rotten to the core. They will take no responsibility for anything ever. Any police officer who does something illegal is either protected by the met or has done something so illegal and unethical that they cannot be protected and thrown overboard. That’s how it works. The institution is corrupt.

Yes, but the public outrage should have been focused on this and it wasn't, it was instead telling me, as a man, that I shouldn't be wolf whistling at Women. Something I never have done nor ever will.

The public outrage doesn’t matter one fucking bit. It hasnt effected anything. You’re just weirdly annoyed about a bunch of people you don’t know who weren’t speaking to you to stop being a creep and you’re mad about it months later.

The Met killed Mark Duggan and the public opinion concentrating on it resulted in… absolutely no change and they sent anyone who participated in said public outrage to jail for 2-3x longer than the offence they comitted suggested sentence was to teach them a lesson.

Unless the outrage is anything less than ‘I think we should round them all up and kill them’ and it succeeds. Who cares?

Yevrah
30-09-2021, 02:01 AM
Yeah, you're right, no-one should ever bother focusing protest or outrage properly again.

phonics
30-09-2021, 02:02 AM
Yevrah, to put it plainly… in the middle of a petrol shortage caused by absolutely nothing. I don’t think misplaced public outrage matters at all. Unless it’s the entire country ganging together and murdering/imprisoning the upper echelons of society in a bolshevikesque revolution. It doesn’t matter.

The people who let Saville rape kids, cover up the Duggan murder, let this shit happen, it’s all the same people.

Yevrah
30-09-2021, 02:06 AM
That's sort of the point I'm making, in that so many of these public outrages are so misplaced these days they've lost before they've even started and it's giving those who've fucked up the easiest ride ever.

Technically you’re misplacing your outrage right now.

The whole #shewasjustwalkinghome and wolf whistle thing was before anyone knew it was a copper in the first place. Then we found out and the coppers turned up to her vigil and smashed peoples heads in for daring to turn up to it. And we’ve since spent the next year having to listen to Milwall fans And GB News saying it’s cultural Marxism to say it’s bad.

Also absolutely perfect that the cops clearly beat the shit out of him for making them look bad and covered it up.

On 10 March, the day Everard's remains were discovered, Couzens was re-arrested on suspicion of murder.[20] On 11 March, Couzens was hospitalised following a head injury sustained in custody; he was again briefly hospitalised the following day after a similar injury.[4][37] After the incident on 11 March, police said the injury was sustained while he was alone in his cell.[38

I reckon one district of London (let's make it the safest one, to make things fair, and keep commutes short) should be handed over to a force of Guardian columnists for a year, on police pay of course, with all the relevant training provided. Let's see how well they get on.

I don't consume lots of lots of UK news, but what I have seems to be weirdly focused on the fact that he was a copper... Are people expecting such a large organisation to have no complete nut jobs in its employ? Presumably he didn't kill her because he was a copper, more that he was a bit of a mentalist. Also, the vast majority of murder victims are men, yet, once again, this is being phrased as a 'women aren't safe on the streets'. It's a bit weird.

It was a very shit cover story/attempted cover up considering he must have had some understanding of just how hard it is to get away with murdering somebody, so you wonder whether the urge to do it is so strong that you just convince yourself that yeah they will buy that shit cover story, won't catch me if I hire a car, etc. The fucking mongs who stab people in broad daylight, or kill their own kids and say they dropped them, are literally just that. It would stand to reason that you could convince yourself that your plan/cover story would work. People convince themselves of all sorts of shit in all walks of life for lower stakes reasons - political shit, anti-vaccine, Mark Duggan was murdered, Juventus are good - so if you really, really, really wanted to rape somebody, but were still capable of thinking beyond the initial impulse (unlike a lot of criminal retards), you could surely talk yourself into thinking your scheme was a winner.

If you can look at the official story of that and think ‘makes sense’ and not ‘someone involved didn’t want him talking’ then you’re less of a legit conservative than I thought.

The gun they were ‘threatened’ with was found 10 feet away over a fence. And the only bullet a police took was another officers mp5. It just makes no sense. Someone in the Met was selling drugs and killed him.

My aunts boyfriend got mullered by 3 guys after asking the next door neighbour to move one of their multiple ‘ice cream’ vans off his parking spot and the police said that he was the one trying to beat them up. Even the judge didn’t believe it. It’s just being a realist.

Doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of detail about the case online; apparently she was arrested previously and has now been rearrested on the same plus additional charges?

If I were a betting man my money would be on an 'angel of death' type situation where she had seen enough of what some of these babies go through and the lives they are sentenced to and decided to put some out of their misery.

I think the veracity of expert testimony/evidence is very much something which can be grounds for appeal/review - Sally Clarke/Roy Meadows etc.

The truly terrifying thing is quite how many 'expert witnesses' are in fact absolute charlatans.

Wasn't there some reasonably recent high profile fraud case that collapsed when it turned out the star prosecution expert witness had essentially made up all of his qualifications and had been whoring himself out as an expert in such matters for years?

Aye, here it is:

An example of the continuing problems with expert evidence was provided on 30 May 2019, when a multimillion pound fraud trial collapsed at Southwark Crown Court. It collapsed because the prosecution’s expert on the carbon credit market, a Mr Andrew Ager, was found to be entirely unqualified for the role. Mr Ager stated he had given evidence in a 22 previous trials, where defendants had been convicted and imprisoned, before his inadequacies were revealed, which should be a cause for considerable anxiety.

There's a bit of a storm in US women's soccer at the moment, with a male head coach accused of sexual harassment now, I'm going to sound like a bit of a dinosaur, but some of the allegations are really weird.

In the report, former player Sinead Farrelly described how a married Riley coerced her into his hotel room to have sex. Another reported incident describes Riley coercing Farrelly and teammate Mana Shim back to his apartment and pressuring the two to kiss each other in exchange for the team not doing training the next day".

How are grown-assed women "pressured" or "coerced" by that. Tell him to fuck off and leave the room. Maybe I'm out of touch, and these women really were scared for their life/careers.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he is planning further action to deal with anonymous abuse online
The Deputy Prime Minister has also argued for social media companies to shoulder more responsibility
Mr Morrison says social media companies should have to identify anonymous trolls or be held accountable

Mr Morrison said he wanted to add his voice to what Mr Joyce had said and urged tech giants to take more responsibility for what was published on their sites.

"[The] lack of accountability that sits around it is just not on," he said.

"You can expect us to be leaning further into this."

Mr Joyce urged his colleagues to consider what could be done to fix the problem in a timely manner.

"There's a congressional inquiry in the United States looking into this," he said.

"I think Australia should be looking into this.

"The idea that someone can have a pseudonym on Twitter and say the most outrageous things and we in 2021 sit back and say that is fair enough, that has got to stop."

https://www.womenshealth.gov/relationships-and-safety/other-types/sexual-coercion

Sexual coercion is unwanted sexual activity that happens when you are pressured, tricked, threatened, or forced in a nonphysical way. Coercion can make you think you owe sex to someone. It might be from someone who has power over you, like a teacher, landlord, or a boss. No person is ever required to have sex with someone else."

Sexual coercion can be a type of sexual violence. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you are in a safe place, call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800-656-HOPE (4673) or chat online with a trained hotline worker on the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline at any time to get help.

Some sexual coercion is against the law or violates school, rental, or workplace policies. Sexual coercion from someone at school, work, or a rental company or loan office is usually called sexual harassment. If you are younger than 18, tell a trusted adult about what happened. If you are an adult, consider talking to someone about getting help and reporting the person to the local authorities. You could talk to a counselor, the human resources department, or the local police.

You can also file a sexual harassment complaint with a federal agency. For workplace sexual harassment complaints, contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). For school sexual harassment complaints, contact the U.S. Department of Education. For housing sexual harassment complaints, contact the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development or the U.S. Department of Justice at 1-844-380-6178 or fairhousing@usdoj.gov.

Sorry for conflating rape and "sexual violence".

columns are churned out in a matter of minutes, with no loftier goal than meeting a deadline and filling up space — meaning that columnists will often resort to using the same words or phrase again and again and again and again and again. And rather than doing any original writing, the slothful columnists will rely on so-called “experts” to supply them with quotes to fill up space, experts say.

“They’ll often quote people you’ve never heard of,” says Harold Crimmins, an expert in the field of filler columns. “It’s pretty shameless.”

And in order to fill up space even faster, Crimmins says, the lazy beach-bound columnist will compose his summer “filler” columns with short paragraphs.

Many of these paragraphs will be as short as one sentence, he says.

“Or shorter,” he adds.

There are other telltale signs a reader can look for in order to determine whether a writer has, in fact, filed a so-called “filler” column, according to Crimmins.

Ban columnists.

Asylum seekers in PNG say they feel 'abandoned' by shift in Australia's offshore detention policy

While Australia will end its offshore program in PNG, processing will continue in Nauru.

"Anyone who attempts to enter Australia illegally by boat will be returned or sent to Nauru," Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews has said.

The Refugee Council has called on New Zealand, US and Canadian governments to assist resettling the remaining refugees.

"It is laughable for the Australian government to pretend that it no longer has any responsibility for people it transferred to PNG," council spokesman Paul Power said.

Nineties Afghanistan was literally a lawless wasteground (as opposed to merely a wasteground) with no anything, so they were a bit more severe when taking control because their gimmick was no nonsense. Plus the minorities were affiliated with the non-Taliban groups which don't really exist anymore. So there is that, and more than likely an element of trying to act a bit more normal now so that they get left alone.

As for the boredom of not fighting, there is that great anecdote about how the Americans would capture 'Taliban' and then during questioning find out that they weren't anything to do with the Taliban, they had just heard gunshots echo round the valley and flocked to the fighting for something to do. That ought to have been the signal to stop bothering really shouldn't it.

This whole thing is such a tiring conversation and perfectly summarised in the above posts.

1) murdering a protestor of any sort because they make you late for work is bad. Anyone saying otherwise is a freak.

2) These protests have to be be approved weeks in advance. Listen to the traffic updates or use waze if your life’s important enough to murder someone else over.

3) the guy who doesn’t know anything but wants to be seen to be on the right side says a bunch of guilt trip bollocks. Insulate UK is not about keeping granny’s house warm and stopping her from dying. If anything granny dying is a net positive for these types.

4) I’m not around to point out that insulate uk actually have a very specific policy goal which is in the name. Vast swathes of the country are poorly insulated, I didn’t even realise single glazing still existed till I moved back to the Uk in 2005. Poor insulation means you have to spend more on gas to keep the heat in. It requires more energy to knock down a shit house and build a new one than improving the old one.

4) All the people who say ‘individuals can’t change anything about climate’ get mad as fuck about these peoples existence and say they’re all hippies on benefits (which they may be but they have a point for once)

5) I wonder whether actually doing the really obvious policy choice that creates jobs, energy efficiency and good publicity is worth it because fucking hell do I want off this planet so why not speed up the process.

However I have absolutely no idea what sort of protest would work. So you have to spend your time telling nutters like Giggles and friends they’re knobs and psychos.

For context though I do realise I kind of misread your fawlty towers post and apologise for the inference. However my larger point still stands.

Not surprising to see you can't count to 6.

I wasn't trying to guilt trip anyone. One of their clearly stated aims one their own website is ending fuel poverty and that's what the particular protest was about (or at least that's what they said when I was listening to the report about it).

But for the purposes of my point, them being united by someone with nefarious motives (not hard to do I'd imagine given how easily a lot of them are manipulated) it would be bad.

What are we even discussing? How does this always happen?
