I recently re-watched some of them as my eldest daughter is sort of getting into them and they're ok for what they are. They probably hold up better than the Lord of the Rings and all that worthy shite, and I don't think there are any really painfully shit moments (Return of the Jedi parade/all that wank at the end of LotR) which is fair going for an epic saga.

And I never really liked Potter first time around (never read the books, watched the films under duress).

Harry Potter is a work of near-genius, with a really tight and engrossing story that - if you read it at a book a year - expands in intrigue and complexity and subjects touched upon as the reader goes through their own childhood (even if the protagonist is bit of a pain in the arse). Not sure I'd read it again now but I have fond memories of doing so the first time round, starting age 10 and finishing at 18 or whatever.
