The ban actually made things more sociable for me initially. I'd be one that wouldn't rise my head in the pub in case I'd have to listen to someone so I'd always have the phone (or newspaper in the olden days), but having to go out to the smoking areas meant your end up talking to someone. Naturally, with people being twats and all, that died a death too and I just take the phone out when I'm there too but it was a bit of a change for a while. Plus (here anyway) most pubs have smoking areas with seats, heaters, and TV's so you end up just staying in it and going in to get another drink each time (my local has a bar in the smoking area for weekends anyway).
