Shots fired!

36.5 miles it was. My parents live in south Sheffield.

And it's about right, I reckon. 3mph I think is the standard walking speed but I slowed down a fair bit in the last few hours.

Why did you do this?

Since I moved to Leeds I idly wondered if I could, and I figured if I didn't do it yesterday I wouldn't do it for yonks as I'd be too busy and with the nights drawing it.

Turns out I could do it. Bosh.

I walk quite a bit, and will often walk between 8 and 10 miles on a Saturday. 35 miles is fucking stupid, though.

It was just a one-off to see if I could. I didn't think it'd be easy.

I stopped for an hour to have a pub meal just south of Barnsley, but otherwise I ate and drank while walking. 13 hours was walking time - it was 14 if you include the pub. The only other times I stopped was to chat to a couple of people. I chatted to one bloke for a while who I found on a bridge going over the M1. He was taking pictures of lorries going past so I asked him what he was up to. He was a 'truckspotter', apparently. He knew a lot of about most of the lorries going past and a lot of them beeped at him when he took photos of them.

I went to a place called The Red Lion near Birdwell. It was £9. I wanted to have the 'MASSIVE steak pie' because I like pie a lot, but they ran out of pie so I had to have fish and chips instead. I was a bit gutted to be honest. I quite like fish and chips but I like pie more.

This is Geoffrey. We chatted for around 20 minutes after I asked him which direction to go in. He gave me a concise history of Ledger Lane - it used to lead to the old racecourse until they moved it to Doncaster, and he said the new racecourse there is named after it. He was on his way to the doctor's when we started talking, because he'd hurt his thumb. While we were chatting 3-4 people walked past and he greeted them all by name. I passed comment and said that it was nice that people in the area knew each other and he commented that he thinks technology has made it so that people don't talk as much as they used to. He said that he wished he was younger so he could come with me on my walk.

I tend to get in conversations with random people a lot more these days. Probably because as soon as people hear the different accent it breaks the ice and starts a conversation. I couldn't be arsed with people before but I quite enjoy hearing random strangers' stories.

You should build up from this one and start doing more 'ultra-walking' or whatever wank name doing shit like that must have.

The longest I've ridden is six hours or so. Does get dull after a while but I reckon I could do 12 easy. If there was something interesting within 200 miles I would give it a go. As it is, there is only so much corn you can watch.

This is ace. I did 16 miles once, but far less civilised. Got refused entry back into a club in Leamington, my mates and my phone and money was inside so rather than waiting half an hour for my mates I just walked home. Regretted it when I started to sober up in an A road central reservation, my suede shoes completely soaked by the grass. Didn't get to chat to any interesting characters either, if you don't include getting abuse from a couple of lorry drivers.

I've got it in my head that my dad walked me and my sis from Gateshead to Washington because we'd missed our bus. I suspect we didn't go the whole way but he threatened us with it.

I walk five miles a day just to get to work and back. It's nice but anything longer sounds risky. I mean, unless its super pedestrian friendly. One of the lads at worked walked 13 miles to Newcastle a while back.

I'm afraid not. To be honest they're not actually mine. I did wear the cap though, albeit in a normal way rather than the HILLARIOUS way shown in the picture. The HILLARIOUS way is how I wear it when lying there though, because the window is to the left of me so it's practical when the sun is out.

I got burnt to fuck on the walk though. My arms and neck felt like they were on fire yesterday. Calmed down a bit now.
