View Full Version : Anyone got a dodgy tv box?

We've looking at getting Sky but I have an inclination that it's a bit of a mug's game when you can get better packages for less by buying a Linux box and phoning the satellite bloke from the yellow pages.

Been looking at Zgemma and Vu Solo boxes.

Anyone do this?

We have all the Sky for about thirty quid because my mother rang them up and asked if she could have it for less, which I think caught them off guard.

Wouldn't you be better off with Kodi?

If you really want Sky or something for the 'TV experience' just call them up and pretend BT offered you something lower. Then go to BT and tell them Sky offered this amount. Rinse and repeat until you get something you want.

They're so desperate for any subscribers it's amazing what lying can get you. Much better than getting a dodgy box and getting caught for it will do anyway.

Or use Kodi.

I'd always take the security of Sky over some backstreet setup, even if it costs me £20 a month more. All hail Super Rupe and his crappy channels.

It's the hundred odd European sports channels that appeal to me mostly. Kodi streams tend to be delayed by 30 seconds or more in my experience which I can't really be doing with.

Yeah I'd looked into kodi etc again recently for the NFL but I'm just going to get sky.

It'll work, which is probably top of the list.

What does a 30 second delay matter? There's already a delay on live tv signals anyway, what difference does it make?

I bet for a living so being 30 seconds behind the market is a bit of a shitter. Satellite feeds should be bang on the money.

Fair enough. If you don't mind me asking is it mostly marginal stuff with safe returns or do you whack it all on red as it were and therefore need to carry your testicles around in a wheelbarrow?

The former, unless you ask me in May or June.

Leaving the numbers off so we can't look in the mans wallet. Shameful.

I generally don't do this, but it IS a bitch when you happen to be online watching a match and say, you're in the WEEKEND FOOTBALL thread for example...

Something happens, you realize it because they've mentioned it in said thread, and now you're sat waiting for it to happen.

Personally, I only really do this when watching random matches and not of my own team, but still.

Twitter is savage for this especially.

I just came here to say kodi is shit.

Chinese betting syndicates have people planted in bedsits in this country specifically to attend football matches and thus beat the 30 second delay to Chinese-based streams. People get arrested for it (or whatever aspect of it is illegal) all the time.

We used to have a dodgy tv box back in the day. Free porn channels.

My parents have got a one of those dodgy skyboxes you can get off eBay, you attach your existing satellite connection in and it descrambles it. Been working a treat for a year now, only cost £80.

Kodi is shite.

Find a reliable zgemma supplier (get the H2S box) and you're sorted.

I've not got one cos I don't wanna get in trouble but seen them in action in a few care homes and they're the business. £30 a year with a one off fee of about £100. Bargain.

I was all set to add Sky Sports today but fucking Virgin will only add it for a minimum two years.

My mate reckons he can get me a "code" that will get me every Sky channel for £30 a month for twelve months, but I don't believe him. He works for Sky Complaints though, so hopefully he's not bullshitting/misunderstood what it is.

People who work for sky have offers for new customers. Sounds like that's what it is.

He said he'd have it by bank holiday Monday so he's already lied anyway. We'll see what happens, I guess. Would be top though!

My brother got rid of his Sky (but kept the box), and I want to watch El Massivo this weekend, so if I take our card down will it work?

Should do. My uncle takes his UK Sky card over to his house here when he's visiting and it works just the exact same as if he was still back there. So it seems to work off what's on the card and not the box.

I guess all that for £53.40 is decent, but I'd rather not be paying that.

The card and box need to be paired Lewis. You can usually do it yourself through the box (it's not complicated/it prompts you to do it), I think. Not sure if it needs broadband to do it or if it works over the phone. Otherwise you could take the whole box with you, I guess.
