View Full Version : Sleep
Just arose from a 14 hour session and feel like absolute shit. Usually I get in a decent 7 hours. Come to think of it, anymore than 8 and I usually feel groggy.
How many winks is ye getting?

Four to five hours usually, occasionally six or seven. I'm just used to it now, I don't feel I need more. My shifts move around a lot too so sometimes I'll be on a 6am start one day and then a 1.30pm start the next.
I sleep between 6 and 7 hours on work days, but I usually nap for about half an hour during the day. I tend to sleep between 8 and 9 hours on weekends and I feel I need a bit of 'extra' sleep during weekends to reset me for the next weeks work.

Wow, good one Magic.
I get between 8 and 9 during the week, a bit less during the weekend. Never had any issues with sleeping.

Since I became decrepit there's no amount I get where I'm not absolutely fucked by evening and will fall asleep as soon as I sit down. I normally try to get more than 7 but it works out about 5.5 after getting up to piss a couple of times.

I keep waking up in the middle of the night and I'm pretty tired all of the time. Its probably because my sleeping pattern was screwed between Christmas and about a week ago, but I don't understand why I won't stay asleep for longer given that I'm constantly tired. I'm exercising, I'm eating well, I'm nodding off at sensible times, but I'm waking up at fucking 3:30, 5:30, then 7:30. Apparently you go through 90 minute cycles of sleep stages and it does seem to fit into that cycle, but I'm shit at nodding off without a sleeping pill so after taking the initial one before I go to bed I'm pretty fucked if I wake up. If I wake up 3 times in the night I reckon I'm losing 30 minutes each time.
Any suggestions?
Taken from a sample of 1439 nights (pretty much all work nights and not weekends) I get an average of 7 hours and 19 minutes of sleep. 77% of which is a good deep sleep.

Get used to it. I get up at least once a night (I think I've tricked myself in to thinking I need a piss to justify waking up, either that or I'm diabetic). Some nights are shat because I really struggle to get back to sleep others aren't too bad. I can't remember the last time I slept right through.

I'm fucking useless when tired, though. I can do physical stuff fine but mentally I'm just not with it. I've never been able to sleep well, though, so you'd have thought I'd be used it. I'm not.

Same. Anything less than 6 hours and my eyes feel like they're sinking in to my sockets. Horrible.

Yeah, working at a computer and shit sleeping patterns aren't a great match.

There's nothing better than those Mondays where you've only had 3 hours sleep and you're so hungover but you make it through the day rather painlessly.

It was always a comedown Tuesday for me in my younger days. Monday passed in a blur of carbs and deep fried goodness but I woke up on a Tuesday wanting to end it.

On any normal week Tuesday is the worst day, but in the summer those Sunday nights are so tempting.

I get between 7-8 during the week and a huge amount less at the weekend. I always wake up during the night but never have issues falling back asleep.

Decided to shut my eyes at 00:03 to go to sleep. I woke up at 02:46, 06:18, 07:41 and finally around 08:30. I didn't realise I'd nodded off again after waking up at 07:41, so maybe I was still in 'deep sleep'. So those seem to fall in line again with the 90 minute cycle thing, assuming there's a period of 'light sleep' that lasts for 10-20 on either side. Two blocks of 3 hours, then 1 hour, then about 45 minutes. Felt great at the gym this morning, and just starting to get tired now. Maybe I'm subconsciously stressed about uni work. Lets see how today plays out.

Fell asleep around midnight, then woke up at 03:40, got back to sleep fairly quickly, woke up again at 06:27 and was awake for a bit then must have slept again and woke up at 09:31. The consistency slightly worries me. I hope this isn't my routine now. Might just get out of bed when I wake up next time so my body knows not to wake up if it wants sleep.
