How does one accumulate friends these days? Outside of work it seems an impossible venture. Pokemon Go?

Meetup is decent. Different interest groups, you turn up and do shit with people who have similar interests.

Most of my close friends are from school and university, but my closest friends in Leeds I met through my old flatmate. She was a bit of a ledge and I got dead close with her, and she introduced me to her lot.

But yeah, if there's nothing like that going on then I'd say meetup is your best bet.

Play in a footy team. Or a band or whatever kind of hobbies you like to have.

It's true to be honest. The one ACTUAL friend I have in Orlando since I've moved here a few years ago I met because he sold weed at the time lol.

I agree. I don't even want friends anymore, just not interested in 'going out.'

Tbh it's what i'm afraid of after college. I'll go from having dozens of friends and hundreds of acquaintances that i see everyday to maybe having a couple work friends. Unless i stay in the Bay Area, which i hella don't want to do. I assume i'll just have to settle for lesser quality friends.

I do, but they're pretty much all in Mexico (or England, in the case of Lewis.) I don't have any over here and, as I said, I don't see the need for any, I can entertain myself just fine.

I lost all mine when I moved to the UK and then all the UK ones when I moved back. When people get married and all they don't really have friends any more anyway. There's one that I knew from I was 7 until I was 24 but his Mrs hates me. Dunno how you'd make them as an adult but I went to a meetup thing once and I'd rather stay lonely.

I would love to go over there. I do much better on the long, grinding stuff but all I get over here are 40 minute flat 'crits' which are not very compatible with my laughable sprint. It seems that I'll be moving to France after graduating though, so you can just go visit me over there. :gay:

The funny thing about this thread is how much you realise that some of the people on here are those that you speak to in real life and think within 5 minutes "this dude spends more time chatting on the internet than in real life"

How does that work exactly? Did you just go to the same schools and all? I've kept in touch with friends that I met when I was two and three but we've changed enough as people that they're no longer my closest friends, even the ones who I've gone to the same school with for 12+ years.

We didn't really become bezzie mates until secondary school, when we were put in the same form, but we were friends from the very start of primary school. The piles of shared memories and in-jokes apparently make us unbearable for third parties, but it's actually just me being a spaz (http://www.thethirdhalf.co.uk/showthread.php?446-Christmas-2015&p=45181&viewfull=1#post45181).

My longest (and a good) friend I've known since I was about 2 years old so that's 27 years. Same primary school and high school and college. We diverged at Uni. My best man I've known since I was 5 and we lived a minute away from each other and have always remained friends. Otherwise, I'm still close to my high school mates so that's a good 16 year relationship.

Go to gigs (comedy, music, wrestling whatever) , chat to folk, join football teams, chess teams, clubs. Join single sites and stay friends with the dates that don't work romantically. Go for a pint in your local. If you don't have a local, get one. Chat to folk online, hope they aren't fucking mental, meet up. Talk to workmates, socialise.

Tbh making friends can be the easiest and hardest thing in the world. I'm an attention seeking twat, so I tend to find it easy enough. The main thing is to fuck fear and just say hello to folk.

Once you make friends with a few people who put on big social events, you can start to build up friendship groups. The trick is the first few people.

The biggest mental hurdle is getting past the "hey, let's hang out over coffee sometime" awkwardness at the start. Once you give up feeling shame over that, the rest is easier. :D

Yep, sport is a huge one. Anything from time at the gym, to running groups, to team sports. Basically anything but swimming laps.
