unlike yevrah, im not going through any crisis of any kind. I just need a decent smart tv. Is there anything i should avoid or look for. I dont have a budget but the more money saved, the better.

What are the advantages of a smart tv? You can buy a stick that makes it smart for around £30, or just plug a laptop in. I don't see how smart is worth the extra money.

I guess having something built in is better than an additional add-on from an interface perspective. But if buying an additional add-on is ideal, then that is also an option.

Last tv was 43" and is perfectly fine. Dont need to go any bigger than that.

4k smart tv for under £300 is probably awful...

Just get an Amazon fire stick. Loads of Smart TVs (especially cheaper ones) are really shit and laggy on their user interfaces.

I actually have a firestick already that has been shelved. Ill consider a non smart tv, and just connect the firestick

I've not seen a Smart TV interface that comes close to a Chromecast. Haven't used a Firestick, but I assume it's about the same.

Buy a Nexus Player. They must be for buttons now and gives a good TV interface with a remote while also having the function of a chromecast too. An Nvidia Shield TV is a better, and more expensive, version of the same.

Apple have something similar as far as I know too, though I don't know the functions of it.

Smart TVs are pointless. I have one because I got it for free and I go straight to my Raspberry Pi over using the built in smart function.

I'd much prefer a massive, dumb screen I can plug a cheap computer into for managing media. No-one want some Samsung/Sony shit clogging up the thing trying to give me adverts when I change the volume etc.

Just realised that i make a thread about smart tv's and it turns into a media stick discussion. Not one of you assisted, advised or recommended any tv help at all. Im in here helping myself.

Someone else makes a 4k tv thread and its suggestion after suggestion
Someone else makes a digital camera thread and they get a recommendation

I know you're not my friend, but im pulling out the racism card

:D

Its because a smart TV is pointless, an external media device just smashes them. My 4K is smart but I don't think I have used its features barring the built in YouTube.

Bought a chromecast but I instantly hated it. I assumed that it was an actual interface type box/stick thing. What's the point in just 'casting' video from your phone or tablet? I'll be returning it (or if anyone wants to buy it for £20 here, it's actually amazing lads, I'll sort it out).

I did get a Fire TV stick and that was the thing I was expecting. It's damn good and shits all over the smart TV bollocks as it doesn't lag to fuck and randomly freeze.

Aren't all TV's 'smart' these days?

You can spend a hundred or more less on not going smart.

Until they can make them as simple to work with as a Fire Stick or equivalent then it'll never be worth it unless there is no non-smart version of the tv you want.
