Anyone got one? Mini mid-life crisis has returned and I'm seriously considering priming the balls and going deep.

I don't but I'm considering a 4k PC monitor.

I was having a nose around currys over the weekend and they look spectacular.

I've pushed the button on an Xbox one S since, so everything's ready.

How much are the monitors?

They look quality, to the point where you wonder whether our shitty eyes (especially for older folks like yourself) would actually pick up on any further improvements.

£370 for that one which looks to be the best on Amazon.

As with Blu-ray there's an issue over the quality of some of the content available, but the good folks at High def digest reliably inform me that the Revenant looks fapworthy.

I got a Richer Sounds chap to show me Mad Max, which picture wise was as much emperors new clothes as the film itself.

I'll get stuck in at some point. Probably when the VR stuff/new PS4 start coming out. I still think it's a bit high price-wise for me, but hopefully by maybe early next year it'll be a good ratio of cost:size.

If you've got decent internet then YouTube/Netflix have some 4k stuff for streaming.

Seriously tempted by this bad boy.

The disconcertingly unfamiliar District Electricals have it for £400 cheaper.

Desperately want one, however I'll wait until I get Virgin 4k box, and some decent channels start appearing in 4k. Also need a 4k media player.

On the 4k media player, that's why I ended up going for the Xbox One S, despite already owning a launch version and having to pay through the nose for it from an ebay seller.

Ah, now you're talking.

This is the single biggest thing that's taken up my time in deciding whether to get a 4k tv or not. My current 1080p Samsung one plays absolutely everything, but my current xbox plays next to fuck all.

From what I can tell the Panasonic will play various file types, but which ones isn't overly clear to me, despite Googling the shit out of it.

The best link I found was this one, http://www.multipelife.com/4k-tv-supported-file-formats.html but I really won't know until I see it in the flesh. I'm guessing the Xbox one S won't play much more than my current one does, so if I'm fucked by that and the tv I'll need to get one of those mysterious boxes, which people cite as being able to play everything, but I know fuck all about.

PtP has a fair number of 4k webrips too.

WDTV is my life, but they won't make a 4K version. Nothing comes even close to it for playing stuff. Amazing bit of kit that's used daily.

Is that this?

Turns out the TV's District Electrical sell that I was looking at have box damage, which I'm assuming was caused by them falling off the back of a lorry.

p.s the latest firmware has a horrible memory bug so don't upgrade it. It's a lifesaver, it hasn't not played anything yet and the quality is great. Can play 15GB files easily. And handles subs well too.

I need to see one running, really. I remember HD store displays being on some shit settings that made them look iffy.

I've got an LG 4K which played everything I could throw at it until I stopped torrents and went exclusively on kodi.

Still get the use out of it as it upscales 1080p too, but Netflix on 4K was stunning.

What was the Blu Ray upscaling like Adamski?

When I was browsing Currys you could definitely tell that some of the TV's had less flattering inputs than others.

Most of them were still images as well, which I did wonder about.

This was another thing I struggled to find, in that it's difficult to tell whether or not you'll need USB 3.0 to run downloaded 4k movies from a hard drive due to the file size.

The Panasonics come with a USB 3.0 as standard, which is one of the reasons why I think I've settled on them.

Is there somewhere like Richer Sounds but for TVs? Going to Curry's seems a bit plebeian

Richer Sounds is near me and I've been there too. Not that it matters, it's the same TV's for exactly the same price. I get 8% off at Currys through work though.

No USB 2.0 can transfer at 35mbps.

Haven't used blu Ray on it to be honest. I'd imagine it's mint though.

It's definitely a lot more worthwhile than 3D which I've used twice in 2 years (both in the first fortnight).

USB 2.0 is fine.

This is mine, I think (not in the house at the moment). Would recommend LG, seems to be just as good spec as Panasonic or Samsung but a bit cheaper.

I went from a 1080p 37 inch TV to https://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M55-C2-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B00T63YW38 around Christmas time. For a bit less than the price on there.

The jump in quality was astounding. I watched a torrented movie and there was just a depth and quality that wasn't ever visible on my TV or any I had watched until that point.

If you have the means to do it and watch a lot of tv/movies and sport I would says its worth it. Its been one of my best investments in a long while.

Anyone know much about input lag with video games?

Is this only something people who prestige 10 times on Codblops should be concerned with or is a poor one noticeable to all gamers? Apparently the Panasonic above doesn't fare too well, at 35ms. Whatever that means.

I don't even have a HD TV and I really can't see the need.

I havent noticed a difference. Moved the PS4 into the living room as soon as I got the TV.

I said the same, until I got one.

Apparently I fucked my link up. this is it. https://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M55-C2-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B00T63YW38

For me the picture quality of OLED is more important than 4K for TV. Would rather go ultra wide for vidya gams too.

4K has always seemed way too reliant on the content being there to make worthwhile. I still watch 4:3 SD content on my TV and I don't care, I'm having trouble seeing the advantage of higher numbers of the same pixels. Give me quality over quantity any day.
