Obviously it will come down to what their own doctors actually think when they do their own medical checks on him, but the expectation has been that they'd end up trading up to for him anyway, and since they can outbid anyone who tries to jump them the only real threat is if Detroit decide to just take him themselves.

In a move that surprises no Baltimore fan, Tony Jefferson has been cut.

He had regressed slightly at the start of the season and when he got injured Chuck Clark came in (who was given a nice new contract) and performed a hell of a lot better.

Dan

Redskins have released Josh Norman & Paul Richardson as well, and the Texans have cut Vernon Hargreaves.

It’s that time of year; everyone’s clearing money for free agency.

Myles Garrett sticking by calling out mason Rudolph as the perpetrator.

Pretty mixed reaction. Some calling for Garrett to be suspended for the accusation which is a bit mental. Unless you’ve heard all the footage available and actually studied the lip sync you really can’t comment.

Ugly though. Smart from Myles not to talk more about it before being reinstated though as the NFL would’ve just left him suspended to avoid it and claimed it was because of the helmet swing.

Also not heard much about the Antonio brown contract stuff.

Roll on the draft.

Get me excited about pass rushers and middle linebackers.

I can't see us selecting another position in the first.

Dan
15-02-2020, 04:29 PM
EDGE is pretty much Chase Young, then a big drop to AJ Epenesa (Iowa), K'Lavon Chaisson (LSU) & Yetur Gross Matos (Penn State), then you're pretty much just hoping. There are a few other guys who seem to be thought of as day two guys, like Darrell Taylor (Tennessee), Kenny Willekes (Michigan State), Bradlee Anae (Utah) & Curtis Weaver (Boise State), but in terms of bigger guys that might work for Baltimore, maybe Nick Coe (Auburn)? He's a defensive lineman who plays inside & on the edge, and seems to be listed as a linebacker on the combine list.

As for the proper linebackers, it's pretty similar. Isaiah Simmons, then Patrick Queen (LSU) or Kenneth Murray (Oklahoma), then take your pick from a bunch of maybes - Malik Harrison (Ohio State) & Troy Dye (Oregon) are probably the two most notable, but there's always depth at linebacker if you just want someone to come in & do a job.

There's been a lot of Kenneth Murray to Baltimore in mocks, and then usually receiver - Laviska Shenault in that offence would be filthy :uhoh:

Sir Andy Mahowry
15-02-2020, 04:34 PM
It depends what we do in free agency too.

We're projected to have around $45m and speculation is growing that we're after Clowney.

Landry Jones' rushing efforts are inspiring dads everywhere to believe that maybe they too can be XFL QBs. I know he has a bad knee but he's running like his kneecap is on the back of his leg, not the front.

Saw that and delighted.

Makes it interesting for Bridgewater and taysom hill.

Neither will really want to hang about as a backup but could see hill leveraging himself to a 3-4mill 1 year deal to hang about. Teddy’s a goner unless they told him he was the Brees successful when he whiffed in Miami last off season.

Dan
18-02-2020, 07:25 PM

If anyone thinks Hill is a franchise QB needs shooting.

I actually think if you plugged him into an offence and asked him to throw he wouldn’t be that bad. He’s a backup weapon but definitely a better thrower than he gets credit for. He was great at BYU, ignoring all the knee injuries (which is strange as since becoming a pro he’s just a wrecking ball).

So it looks like we're moving towards a 17 game regular season in 2022. Also moving the number of play-off teams from 12 to 14 and only giving a bye to one team in each conference.

I get that more football > less football, but I'm not sure I agree with the play-off decision.

There's talk flying about of a potential Eli situation with Burrow. Could well change about the top of the board a bit if true.

I think this happened a couple of years ago with the Browns, and probably several other times. I feel like everything that comes out around this time of year is down to somebody trying to get leverage to swing the draft their way - see all the ‘Miami likes Justin Herbert as much as Tua’ or ‘maybe Detroit will take a QB’ articles that have started popping up.

Not sure Burrow is the sort to shy away from a challenge, and he’s an Ohio native so it’d be back home for him (although he did transfer from Ohio State, which does counter both of those points).

Bengals are trash ownership with super tight purse strings & an almost nonexistent scouting department, they’re probably going to let AJ Green walk & their defence has two good players under 30 (Jessie Bates & William Jackson), so it’s not impossible, but it’s probably still no worse than a lot of #1 overall picks have gone to - they still have Mixon, Boyd & a few good young linemen to give him something to work with, and a young coach with a modern scheme who should get stability to build his team long term.

I don’t really understand it. Got a medical certificate from a nfl doctor confirming you’re injured? Fine. Come along and do what you can. Fully fit and can’t be fucked with the drills? Nah. Away you go, you can work out at your pro day and see what teams are interested enough to come along.

Giggles
24-02-2020, 07:57 PM
The combine is a waste of time the more teams realise that tape of players playing actual football is more important than a few irrelevant drills. If they really wanted it they’d conspire not to pick players high that don’t work out.

Dan
24-02-2020, 08:15 PM
The thought seems to be that we're slowly moving towards the combine becoming more & more of an entertainment product, what with the move to US prime time hours & the expectation that it's going to be moving away from Indianapolis sooner rather than later.

Teams only really care about the guys who massively surpass expectations or totally bomb it, and even then it's only really to make them to go back to their tape or so they can use it as a tiebreaker for evenly matched players. Most of the benefit for teams is in the medicals & interviews anyway, so we'll inevitably have the draft version of the pro bowl skills showdown in Las Vegas or LA within a few years.

Chase Claypool giving it the DK treatment - 6'4" 238lbs, 40.0" vertical, 4.42 forty :cab: They're planning to work him out at TE as well - imagine some linebacker trying to cover that.

Fucking Albert Okwuegbunam (shockingly, most people call him Albert O) ran a 4.49 as a 6'5" 258lbs TE as well, and Michigan WR Donovan Peoples-Jones jumped 44.5".

We're getting Ruggs overnight too - Jalen Reagor will probably become the second person to jump 12+ in the broad jump too.

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently he's already jumped & only managed 11' 6" :moop: Bit of a letdown for a guy who won a state long jump title in Texas & said he was just dabbling in it, but still up near the top of the charts.

Daniel Jeremiah must have done this mock whilst drunk.

Denzel Mims is good, to be fair, but first round is probably just the hype train getting carried away. He's be a great pick in the second round though. A lot of DJ's picks are guys that aren't commonly fitted where they've gone by other draft sites, but you'd have to imagine he's pretty plugged in to how teams are thinking, so probably at least worth taking some of the fits into consideration.

They're going hard at CBs in free agency, you'd have to imagine. That and/or they're taking CJ Henderson at 9. Definitely a great deal for Denver though.

Jags are also going to be losing Ngakoue regardless of whether they tag him or not - he's made it very clear that he won't play for them again. The front office have absolutely decimated a great defence with their incompetence.

Think the top 3 picks in the draft are pretty locked in but just can’t see the giants not trading down.

Dan
20-04-2020, 08:49 PM
The talk is that the Giants will take Isaiah Simmons or a tackle (likely Tristan Wirfs). I'm not sure the Giants would maximise Simmons, but there are going to be a few solid OT's at the top of round two whereas there's no other Isaiah Simmons in this class (I guess maybe Jeremy Chinn or Kyle Dugger if you want discount versions), so it does make some sense.

Seeing stories of the Falcons saying Kendall Sheffield can be a CB1 alongside stories of the Falcons being expected to be one of the most aggressive teams in the draft makes me think that they'll be trading up for CJ Henderson, assuming Okudah goes to Detroit of course. Can't see anyone in the top 6 trading out that far, and not sure they'd be able to strike a deal with Carolina, so it probably would have to be a trade with Arizona to get ahead of Jacksonville.

Interestingly you have us going for the same guy I do.

I think we'd like to get involved with the Ruggs III, Lamb or Jeudy debate, but that's may be too expensive for us. I have however seen Howie take us into pick #2 for a QB he liked and that worked out well.

I also think the Patriots will play smart. I can see them wanting to get either Hurts or Fromm. They'll need to be in R2 to do that though, so they'll likely move back in the 1st to try and pick up a 2nd and chuck one of their 3 x 3rd rounders back over.

Well then I guess he isn't also going #2 or whatever either then is he you absolute fuckin genius? So guess what that also means? Your bit is still invalid and a waste of time.

Try again.

I bet he enjoyed himself more and for longer doing it than you have shitting your undies clean off your body at him for it.

Counterfactuals can be fun little intellectual exercises. In this case there's more than one in play, but then 'what if the Bengals biff a draft' is hardly a counterfactual at all.

Patriots are 'trading' Gronk to the Bucs, because he's told them that while he wants to play again, he only wants to do so with Brady and not for them. They'll be sending him and a seventh round pick and getting a fourth round pick in return. Given he's retired and it sounds like he wouldn't be coming back to play for them whatever happened, it's decent business for the Pats. They're essentially swapping a seventh for a fourth.

We were touched on it briefly before Bruh had yet another meltdown over nothing.

It's great business by the Patriots, he was never going to play for them again and he looked pretty poor in his last season as injuries have clearly taken their toll.

I hope you're going to be posting a letter bomb to MJD as he also has Herbert going number 1 in his serious draft, Bruh.

Bruh: You've just wasted your time, Dan
Also Bruh: *wastes his time critiquing about something somebody else did for some harmless fun*

That said I'm all in on Shane Falco for the number one spot. #2 is clearly going to be Julius Campbell though, idiot.

Last night at about 12:30am I was wondering about a mock draft where you can only draft players who wore the same jersey number as the pick you're making, so you might get that one at some point too. Spoilers, there are a lot of numbers that nobody good seems to wear. On the other hand, if you can get a number in the 1-15 range you're probably going to get drafted - 1 & 2 in particular have a bunch of studs.

I need this quarantine to end :(

EDIT: On a related note, TDN did a hometown only mock. (https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/nfl-mock-draft-hometown-2020)

Yeah I was thinking college/state only draft. Kind of like what the jags do each first round anyway.

Edit that hometown draft is stupid.

Dan. You can only draft a player who played college football in the same state as the team playing. Go.

Trades are allowed if you think a team would jump up to get a specific prospect.

Dan

Joe Burrow used to play at Ohio State...

The Texas & Florida teams will be loaded, obviously. Saints will have a nice group of LSU players all to themselves too :) Nobody plays in Maryland though, so sorry Washington & Baltimore.

Foe

Yeah. That counts.

I want to see a full list of 32 picks. The hometown draft is stupid because he’s basically having to trail through the Unknowns. Bar maybe the raiders or chiefs, I suspect most of the teams have pretty high level prospects.

Dan
22-04-2020, 05:28 PM
It's probably not that different by college, to be honest. Nobody good for any of the New York teams or Las Vegas, not many decent prospects out of places like Tennessee & Minnesota this year, although just enough to get by. I gave it a quick look & it's pretty difficult to do a whole mock without just spamming picks for the teams from Texas, Ohio, Carolina, Georgia & Florida.

I'll compromise & do a list of top five players in the class by each state...

That’s an impressive list.

It’s going to be brilliant if the raiders move to Vegas is focused on tourism which is now absolutely fucked.

Casinos are probably struggling too.

Seem to recall last time there was a good 90 minutes of coverage before the clock started.

Well, I mean, you could because it's one of the dullest things going.

Then just read the results, watch any videos of anything actually entertaining that happens and win.

2.5 hours for one round is less than 5 minutes per pick which seems incredibly optimistic.

True. If I recall the time limit is 3 minutes between picks once the clock actually starts. If the clock ACTUALLY starts at say, 8pm, the draft would technically have to conclude by 9:36pm.

Since they have the allotted time from 8:00pm to 11:30pm I bet it'll be something like...

8:00pm - 9:00pm : Pre-draft coverage and interviews
9:00pm - 9:15pm : Stupid fuckin montage videos of the top 3 prospects
9:15pm - 10:45pm : Actual draft, cause some picks won't take the entire 3 hours but they'll have a bunch of commercials and shit
10:45pm - 11:30pm : Live REACTIONS! and bullshit.

Oh man it's 3 and 1/2 hours i typed that wrong initially my bad.

Bengals will be put on the clock almost instantly and the timing is 10 minutes for the first round.

The seventh round is 4 minutes.
