James Harrison has retired.

Dan

CJ Anderson has been cut. Gotta think he’ll end up in Miami, considering they just tried to trade for him. Tampa are probably in the mix too.

Sir Andy Mahowry

Jackson is visiting the Ravens today. It seems more and more likely that we'll take him at 16 should he be there.

Dan
16-04-2018, 07:30 PM
We're going to have all six QBs go in the first round, aren't we? It's going to be madness if everyone starts throwing picks around to try to get them before they go.

Browning
16-04-2018, 07:38 PM
At most two of them will still be starting games in 3 years time.

Not a clue, but history tells us you don't get that many elite QBs in one draft.

Dan
16-04-2018, 07:56 PM
How many did we get from the 2004 one? Rivers, Ben & Eli, but was there anyone else as well? That’s got to be the best QB class of the millennium, right?

http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?type=position

83 is probably the best ever and 2012 would be up there if Luck wasn't always injured now and RG3 hadn't been found out.

'07 has to be the worst there (discounting the early ones because I haven't a clue), there's absolutely fuck all there. Fun fact though, Kevin Kolb was rated as A for potential on Madden up to '11 or something I think which was my first year.

Him, Jimmy Clausen, Arrelious Benn, Jahvid Best, Tony Moeaki

All of them did fuck all in the league but still, great times.

Dan
16-04-2018, 10:38 PM
2011 was pretty bad. Cam at #1 did alright for himself, but then you have the Blaine Train, Christian Ponder & Jake Locker all going in the top 16 of a draft where every other player picked in the top 16 aside from Nick Fairley was a pro bowler, and most of them were elite guys like Von Miller, JJ Watt, Tyron Smith, AJ Green & Julio Jones.

EDIT: Skipping forward though, I'm going to throw out an early claim on the RB Karan Higdon from Michigan. I keep watching teams playing them to look at other guys for this draft & he always ends up having three or four big plays in each one.

Dan

Ravens have offered Willie Snead a 2yr $10.5m deal. The Saints have already re-signed Brandon Coleman so I doubt they’ll bother to match.

Sir Andy Mahowry
20-04-2018, 03:03 PM
Not keen at all.

Probably the right move by us but it's a bit meh.

Dan
20-04-2018, 05:19 PM
He’s fairly comparable to Crabtree, but I guess he’s more the slot version so there’s space for him. If he can get in shape & find his form again he’ll be a good chain mover, but it’s definitely more of a depth move than a quality one.

Sir Andy Mahowry
20-04-2018, 05:49 PM
I think it also further signifies that we'll take Jackson in the draft.

Dan
20-04-2018, 10:26 PM
There’s plenty of depth at WR so you can definitely afford to wait - chances are you can get a solid starter in R4 if you don’t mind them being a bit of a specialist.

For all the shitting on Jackson that was going on around the combine when he didn’t run, scored 13 on the wonderlic & nobody could get a meeting with him it definitely seems like there’s been a late surge in first round hype for him. I initially thought he’d get round to the Cardinals in the second but they might end up having to him on day one now.

Do you reckon they’d be willing to tailor the offence to him though, considering they don’t even do it for Big Money Joe?

Sir Andy Mahowry
20-04-2018, 10:32 PM
Yes and I think the offence is more suited to him. They also want him to learn from Griffin too.

Dan
20-04-2018, 11:06 PM
Is RG3 basically just going to tell him to not get hit all the time when he runs?

Sir Andy Mahowry
20-04-2018, 11:30 PM
This is how you don't do it...

Should also say I've jut spent a bit of time reminding myself how good Saquon Barkley is on YouTube. He's so fast and cutty, a bit like McCaffrey last year.

Would love to see him behind a decent OL. If he ends up a giant I might cry.

I’m trying to do a full one at the minute - got to about round 4 & then it’s all guys I haven’t watched but who are all probably completely interchangeable.

NFL website has predict the pick, which is a mock contest, so you can always just screen grab that.

Every called pick is a point, every called trade is 5, something like that.

No trade mock off the top of the head:

CLE - Sam Darnold
NYG - Saquon Barkley
NYJ - Baker Mayfield
CLE - Bradley Chubb
DEN - Josh Rosen
IND - Quenton Nelson
TB - Derwin James
CHI - Denzel Ward
SF - Tremaine Edmunds
OAK - Roquan Smith
MIA - Minkah Fitzpatrick
BUF - Josh Allen
WAS - Vita Vea
GB - Harold Landry
ARI - Lamar Jackson

TEN - Sam Hubbard
ATL - Taven Bryan
NO - Mike Gesicki
PIT - Rashaan Evans
JAC - Leighton Vander Esch

With trades is more fun. At the very least I’d have Buffalo going up for a QB while the Saints & Eagles trade out of the first round.

Draft kicks off at 1am tonight, right?

Here's a quick list of my personal favourites outside of the bigger names, all of which I have as day one or two players:

Never going to happen.

With trades is fun, without listing the whole lot I'd shove Bills taking Clevelands number 4 to take Josh Allen and Rosen landing at Miami.

I just can't see Denver taking a QB. Would also not be surprised if NY Giants traded away number 2 if the QB they want is gone, their team is so bad.

This draft is so good because the top 7 is so interchangeable - Barkley, Chubb, Nelson + 4 QBs. I'm really excited.

Day 1 is on Sky sports tonight, day 2 is live tomorrow night, and (most of) rounds 4-7 live on Saturday. What a weekend

Mayfield to Cleveland is picking up steam. The Saints also seemingly want to trade up to the teens for a QB.

Dan
26-04-2018, 06:26 PM
They’ve been on everyone except Rosen in the last week so I guess we’ll just have to wait & see. As for the Saints, I’d rather we traded back but if we go up for Jackson (most likely) or one of the top four it would at least be interesting - Jackson in particular could be fun alongside Kamara in a Sean Payton offence.

Anyway, I’m off to watch the Avengers. Don’t spoil the pick if it leaks this evening.

There's so many teams that could move up...

Arizona, Buffalo, New Orleans, San Diego (Rosen?) and even Pitt / New Eng could do if they love a guy (doubt it, given their history).

My entertainment is seeing how the Browns fuck up from pick #1 and #4 in this draft. Also after the shit whichever Dallas legend came out with infront of all the Philly fans last year, it'll be great to see someone from our side come out and parade the trophy in front of all the Dallas fans.

Gotta love having Josh Allen on the red carpet talking about some racist tweets he sent six years ago. Not quite the Tunsil Gas Masks, but I look forward to the Mahow team name nonetheless.

Look at that suit on Minkah  Shame the reporter keeps trying to jam her mic down his Dad's throat though. Also got destroyed by Denzel Ward's shoes. Lamar Jackson going full Cam Newton must mean there's a dedicated 'Black Running QB' stylist out there. He sounds like he'd score a 13 on the Wonderlic, to be fair.

This red carpet shit is awful, but it's stopping me from hunting out draft spoilers, so I'm going to have to sit through it.

Dan

I would take Rosen out of the QBs, but I'd be happy with any of him, Baker or Darnold, and I think Darnold will end up being the pick. Allen & Jackson both have enormous potential, but they're also much bigger risks, and I'm not sure you can swing & miss that hard again if you're the Browns.

This guy must be paid by the second for the anthem.

49ers have a choice between Tremaine Edmunds, Derwin James, Minkah Fitzpatrick or a trade. That's a pretty nice spot to be in.

I'll be amazed if nobody moves up in the next two picks, but Josh Rosen to Miami could be nice. He'll be determined to kick the shit out of Darnold & Allen twice a year too, but the prospect of a division with three rookies & Tom Brady is pretty lol.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 01:05 AM
Rosen looks like he wants to cry :D

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:07 AM
That was the sleeper pick, but I didn't think they'd actually do it. I thought they'd forgotten that they could use first round picks on offence.

Notre Dame O-Lineman dominating the draft so far.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 01:08 AM
49ers need that especially as Staley probably only has a year or two left.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 01:08 AM
Rosen's wait is over then.

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:09 AM
Cardinals to take Lamar Jackson over Rosen here.

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:13 AM
Rosen is the best QB in the class when you just look at pocket passing & it's not even close. He just has an injury history & I don't think he's great at feeling back side pressure, which can cause him to cough up a few fumbles.

He could be Brady/Peyton levels of good though.

Pleb
27-04-2018, 01:14 AM
Rosen must be seething that he isn't a top 5 drafted QB.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 01:14 AM

Sir Andy Mahowry

With that name and the nose? Of course he is.

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:20 AM
Minkah & Reshad Jones should be a hell of a safety duo. They might even be able to cover Gronk now.

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:23 AM
Bucs have done well from this - Derwin & Tremaine Edmunds are both still there. I'd chuck in Vita Vea & Harold Landry as the next few guys on the board.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 01:25 AM
Look at Vita Vea

What a man he is.

Gray Fox

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:26 AM
Well I guess we're not running on Tampa anymore. JPP/Vea/McCoy/Curry is a filthy run defence line.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 01:27 AM

Nope.

It's going to be Jackson unfortunately. I'd rather a WR though.

Derwin here, surely? Maybe Da'Ron Payne.

Sir Andy Mahowry

Saints want to take Jackson here? :yn:

Dan

I don't like this. It's going to be Lamar Jackson.

It could work out, and Payton is probably one of the best coaches to get something out of him, but we already have a shortage of picks so I hope we've not chucked away anything too valuable.

Gray Fox
27-04-2018, 01:34 AM

Has to be Lemar surely.

Sir Andy Mahowry

Ridley, James, Edmunds or Jackson.

Ozzie is going to pick the worst option of the 4 :(

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:42 AM
WOW.

That's a fuckload of capital to give up, but if it pays off it's the thing we need most. I'd have taken Landry over him though.

Sir Andy Mahowry

Man I love the Raiders :D

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 01:48 AM
I'm a little surprised by that as I thought they'd snap Jackson up if he was there.

Still could have Edmunds, James or Ridley there at 22.

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:49 AM
I'm not even going to bother mentioning Edmunds, Derwin or Landry anymore.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 01:50 AM
Look how big he is for a linebacker.

He looks like he could batter any TE.

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:51 AM
Yeah, that's the right pick. He's made in a lab.

He needs to get better at reading the game, but then he's 19 and he's a freak, so I can live with that.

Gray Fox
27-04-2018, 01:51 AM

Sir Andy Mahowry

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:59 AM
Derwin at last. That team is a serious AFC dark horse next season.

Green Bay coming back up here. They have a billion day three picks, so I'd imagine they've given up some of those for Harold Landry, Rashaan Evans or Joshua Jackson.

Why did they get noted Eagle fan Connie Fox to come on the stage with the Cowboys?

You'd imagine they know something if they're hyping up a WR pick before it's even finalised.

EDIT: I do wonder what the fuck Steve Smith is on about half the time, and I imagine he wonders the same thing.

Dan
27-04-2018, 02:26 AM

Ravens are desperately trying not to have to pick anyone. I think this will be Harold Landry, but Rashaan Evans is the other option.

Dan
27-04-2018, 02:30 AM

Sam Hubbard & Lamar Jackson for the Patriots. They do love to trade back though...

Dan
27-04-2018, 03:15 AM
This would have been more special if Rich Eisen hadn't spent the last ten minutes hyping it up, but fuck me Ryan Shazier is a dude. To be back where he is now already is hugely impressive.

The Seahawks pick was a surprise and yet it's immediately been blown out of the water by the Steelers taking Terrell Edmunds.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 03:20 AM
Did they need another defensive lineman?

Dan
27-04-2018, 03:22 AM
They're going to have to cut Calais next season, I'd imagine, so it's worth getting a replacement sorted now.

Loomar Jackson to replace Flacco next year then.

Dan
27-04-2018, 03:38 AM
You better not try to fit him in to the current scheme. He's a hell of a talent, and he's actually a decent thrower, so you could have a hell of an offence if you get some actual WRs.

Sir Andy Mahowry
27-04-2018, 03:38 AM
I like it more that we traded around and got him at 32 (plus a TE) rather than 16.

He'll sit a year then goodbye Joe.

Steve Smith has been on the money tonight.

That's not necessarily an Ozzie pick but a DeCosta pick.

What're your thoughts on Chubb then, chaps? He has a good beefy name for a defensive player so that's a solid start as far as I'm concerned.

Dan
27-04-2018, 10:26 AM
He's not flashy, but he's really good - strong against the run, good with his hands & has a great motor. He should be a really nice compliment to Von Miller.

Some really safe picks made last night I feel. Colts grabbing a guard was a no brainier and Barkley at 2 makes a good amount of sense if he's half as good in the NFL as he was in college.

Highlight for me was seeing how pissed Josh Rosen was at going number 10. :D

Interesting thought that the Browns walked with mayfield and ward whilst the bills have Allen and Edmunds. Pretty solid gamble by the browns so for the sake of competition really hope it works out.

Dan
27-04-2018, 01:19 PM
If the Giants pick Harold Landry tonight after taking Barkley yesterday I might be a secret Giants fans.

Best 5 picks of round one:
1. Derwin James to the Chargers
2. Bradley Chubb to the Broncos
3. Jaire Alexander to the Packers
4. Calvin Ridley to the Falcons
5. Tremaine Edmunds to the Bills

Worst 5 picks of round one:
1. Terrell Edmunds to the Steelers
2. Rashaad Penny to the Seahawks
3. Kolton Miller to the Raiders
4. Marcus Davenport to the Saints
5. Sony Michel to the Patriots

The top three on both lists are pretty clear, and then it was hard to choose from a handful of others for the last two spots. Most picks were really solid, even if a few caught us off guard.

EDIT: The more I think about the Steelers' pick the more I see some redeeming qualities in it. They need a linebacker & the best four had already gone, so considering there's a pretty hefty drop off to the next lot it's possible that they're going to try & see if Terrell can do the same job as his brother. Still a reach though.

He should be, he's the best route runner in the class, he's got good deep speed & his presence will make it harder for teams to focus on Julio. He should be an immediate upgrade on Taylor Gabriel & Mo Sanu, and this will be the first time he's had an actual QB throwing him the ball, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the running for offensive rookie of the year.

James Daniels is a nice pick for the Bears. Not sure whether it'll be him or Whitehair at C, but the other one should be a decent enough guard. We're getting plenty of focus on the O-Line so far, especially the inside guys.

Those 2 one handed catches they showed there are filthy.
