I'm going to Bournemouth on Sunday. Shame there is no Pogba as he's banned from Italy but we should have enough. Hopefully Rooney did enough to drop himself last game.

I know what you mean. I felt like that during the Euros and that was worse because it was three games a day sometimes and because it was over so quickly I felt like I really had to. At least this is only a couple of games a week.

Not sure if it was Mahrez or Gray that the throw went to, but that kind of lack of tracking back is so annoying. He saw Snodgrass free, it's just a fifteen yard run - hardly like he's got to run from one area to another - but he expects someone else to spot the danger and do the work for him. Grr.

I reckon he will do better for Pep than he might for anyone else. He seems a lot like the sort of defender who is suited for an extremely high back line where the duties will largely be distributional anyway.

Whether that is "enough" I've no idea.

Reg
13-08-2016, 10:31 PM
The SEETHE on here if Pep wins the league with John Stones Cruyffing his way to player of the season, David Silva his fellow centre back, and the full backs playing as funky inside right and lefts.

The SEETHE on here if Pep wins the league with John Stones Cruyffing his way to player of the season, David Silva his fellow centre back, and the full backs playing as funky inside right and lefts.

The most likely source of seethe will be if all his wanky 'Xabi Alonso as sweeper' style pointless tinkering gets them biffed by Bournemouth and a third place finish. I could see you leaving the board if that happens.

I've read a lot of 'Yeah but with "Pep" coaching him...', as if either of his previous sides could defend against comparable opposition.

Stones will be his Pique, only not as big or as good. His best chance of becoming a proper defender would be a manager who'd slap him every time he took more than three touches and hit him with a haymaker if he tried a backheel. Guardiola will take him out for dinner when he does those things, so he'll only get worse.

One of the Football Weekly bods reckoned that de Roon bloke at Middlesbrough was going to be this season's Kante, having had the most tackles and interceptions in Serie A last year. We're in for a couple of years of interceptions being the new assist, aren't we?

He SURELY isn't going to bench warm for long. Wonder if Mourinho doesn't quite think he's match-fit or something.

Yeah, the minor Cups start soon so he'll get a run.

Seriously though, he's probably not a permanent benchwarmer like, say, Depay is, but he's clearly not an Ibrahimovic "first name on the team sheet" player either. He's just a guy. He's the equivalent of £10m on Diego Forlan in 01/02 or whatever.

He looks quite composed as well. I thought he was meant to be a bit of a mess on that front.

He's gone steaming into the back of somebody a few times in the games so far so at some point he's going to get three red cards in one game for dragging his studs down somebody's colon but other than that I've really liked the look of him.

They definitely need a new left back, because there's no way you can be going into the season with James Milner as first choice left back and that abomination as the reserve.

No, Rodgers played him (possibly force of circumstance), then he died for about 15 months and by the time he was back Brendan was gone. Maybe that long lay-off has wrecked him. He's only played a few times since. Did he play for Burnley at the weekend?
