Steve McClaren really is one of the most tragic men in football. Just pathetic.
I'm going to fight Lee on Sunday in a pub.
Don't forget the friendly on Sunday that makes no sense at all. On ITV too. :cab:
Max Power

Oh my God, this Ian Holloway/Steve McClaren banter is excruciating. They keep touching each other. Losers

We've made it, boys. Summer's finally over.

Newcastle setting the early standard of calamity ahead for us both.
Newcastle losing to Fulham :D
What the surprise? This is the Championship. It's a slog and Newcastle will still win it

Did Newcastle actually look any good?
Samadini
06-08-2016, 08:41 AM
Not really.
It was the first game of the season, there's a lot of new players, with more still to come into the team and the match would have gone very differently had Newcastle got (and scored) the penalty at 0-0. Nothing to shit the bed over yet.
niko_cee
06-08-2016, 08:56 AM
That's probably pushing it a bit (Newcastle missed a host of decent chances and should have had 2 penalties) but they did look a bit ill-prepared for the more frantic nature of the championship.
Samadini
06-08-2016, 09:02 AM
Shelvey should have started, he's the only midfielder there who can actually play a forward pass that wouldn't just be a hoof up to one of the midgets.
niko_cee
06-08-2016, 09:47 AM
Yeah, and midgets definitely isn't the way to go. Would expect them to be much better once Mitrovic is back. How long is he banned for? Will he miss the Brighton game?
Shindig
06-08-2016, 09:51 AM
3 more games.
Samadini
06-08-2016, 10:05 AM
His first game will be the Brighton game
Didn't help that Anita seemingly didn't fancy passing to Newcastle team mates yesterday.
Rangers losing at home to Hamilton would be quite amusing.

We are in desperate need of central defenders. Clint Hill is the slowest person I've ever seen on a football pitch, including officials and groundsmen.

Two managers and a couple dozen transfers later, Fellaini remains the unwipable shit stain.

Yeah they called Villarreal a "small team in Spain" earlier, which I thought was pretty ridiculous.

I think they said that about the Europa semi final v Liverpool.
And they are a small club, RL, to be fair. Relatively anyway. Fan numbers etc they'd be one of the smallest in the PL.

I like how Mourinho had to bring Mata down another peg. Just because he can.

What happened? Did he bring him on and then off, or just start him and substitute him and the media are losing their rag for DRAMA.

He brought him on midway through the 2nd half. Then he took him off again in injury time. Not injured or anything, just because. Mata looked a cross between seething and crying.

He said why he did it - that he'd played very well, but he had subs left and Leicester were chucking in high balls and corners and Mata was the shortest player on the pitch.
They were laughing together straight after he came off.

There is no possible sequence of events in which at least two of Mourinho, Pogba and Ibrahimovic don't have a massive falling out. Jose and languid, leggy creative types do not mix.
I think Berbatov would have been the best Mourinho bust up player.
Lewis
07-08-2016, 10:52 PM
Him and 'Zlatan' sound like right bum boys, so the latter filling somebody like Ashley Young in seems like the best bet.

I forgot to say. I watched the match in a pub with my friend (BT are filth), and there was a lad there in a Martial 11 shirt kicking every ball. Thankfully, we eventually made eye contact as I pulled a Cornette Face at him waving an imaginary yellow card, and then he wound it in a bit.

Surprised how little defensive cover United had on the bench though.

Not only did he bring one, he kicked every other one brought to the pub.
Shameful. Momma always told me, "If you bring a ball to the pub, make sure that's the ball you kick."
Mildly interesting article from Xavi on Pep. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/aug/10/pep-guardiola-manchester-city-barcelona-xavi
Luton v Villa on Sky if anyone's interested. Kick off in fifteen minutes. Interested to see how Jones has got Luton playing and whether Villa will be any good this year.
One of my best friends is a Luton fan and is there, and some of my family are Villa fans. I'll be supporting whoever has the stupidest haircuts.
Impressive number of defenders shitting themselves in such a short space of time there.
Was Grealish the one people were hoping would choose England and lead us to European 2016 glory?

Rea probably could have got Ayew sent off there. But was brought up in The Brighton Way.

Its the Neil Armstrong thing of hitting the moon in your thirties. Everything else will disappoint.
Villa looking awful again :D
There are some own goals where you feel sorry for the player and think they couldn't do much about it, but that one...
They are falling to pieces defensively. Look in dire need of some basic drills, and maybe a new leader. (Edit - forgot they'd signed Elphick.)
Ayew looks decent though.

That Villa defending is shocking
I've just stumbled upon the 'EFL Cup' () draw on Sky Sports news. Some presenter and Iain Dowie. Dowie drawing the teams out of the pot, and responding to every draw with a phwoar-esque sound.
I dunno if I like that more or less than the fact that they think Iain Dowie is going to increase the chances of somebody watching the draw.

The state of that draw. Why was only one team being picked per tie? Did someone die in the build up? It was meant to be on SS1 but that inexplicably lapsed into decade old play-off final highlights.
Oxford away. A giant "meh". Second XI again and hopefully a Prem team at home in the next round.
Cambridge at home. I'll take that then one of the London clubs away in the next round should we get through

Good to see Glenn Murray up and running.
I'm not having the k-nockart business.
Pretty solid start. Murray, Skalak (bar his stupid challenge) and KUHnockaert were good. Would have given MoM to Murray. Forest were a bit rubbish and their new formation didn't work.
