Really just an excuse to post the website I've made for my photographs: http://leostillinger.format.com/

but... any of you else dabble in visuals arts kinda things? I personally consider some photos of mid-2000s Baz in nightclubs (now probably lost with the old forum) to be among the heights of fine art.

Art is fucking shit. Especially the 'modern' stuff. Make your bed and empty the ashtray you scruffy cunt.

I like to look at nice shit. Sometimes art fulfills this. Not very often, though. Sculptures and statues have the added pull of scale. And then at that stage I'm more interested in massive engineering. Like fat Soviet Ekranoplans.

Cool photos, Spoon.

I was into painting and art was my favourite subject at school (partly because the teacher was super chilled, was a P-Funk fan and let us listen to music). I never liked looking at art as much as doing it. The calming, consuming aspect of producing something was way better than going to a gallery or whatever.

I did Art at GCSE, and I got a D because I refused to use anything other than pencils.

My Mum asked a friend of hers who is an artist to paint her wardrobe a few years ago.

My reply was 'It's not finished is it? When is she going to clean all the splatter around the door? It's a right mess'. I was lolled at for 'not getting art'.

I also went to a gallery that said friend was having an exhibition at. 'It looks like a cross between a lemon and a banana that has been squashed' summed it all up nicely I feel.

More to the point in all this, how much of a fucking wanker is Spoon and how long will it be before his next 'thing'? Maybe it was his near death experience in London.

Don't turn into a smart arse little hun just because you spent a few days in a tartan skirt.

No skirts, but I did buy a cracking scarf in Edinburgh, if that will add to your image of me.

If I move on from photography it will be because the price of film processing absolutely takes the piss, but I haven't give in yet. And I would go back to writing.

Lol at using film and then scanning the pictures. Just cut the middleman. Or go full wanker and keep the photos in their REAL form.

These are all actually pretty solid photos. Half of it is probably just down to it being a quality camera, but still.

I've always wanted to be able to draw. I wonder if you can learn, or just need natural talent.

Spoonsky

You could probably learn to draw very competently without any experience or talent. To hang in museums is something else though.

Anyone can learn to draw, it just takes a fucking age, patience and a willingness to get better.

My advice would be to find a visually interesting object (bowl of fruit or whatever) and just draw that for 30 minutes a day, every day, for a month. Keep them all and then see where you started and where you ended, you need that sense of improvement to keep going because the last thing you drew/made will always be crap (I've never finished a project and been happy with it a week after it's done, you always notice issues)

If you're still interested start moving onto more complex things like street corners/buildings to help you work on perspective, then move onto going to museums or just look online and drawing (not tracing) a work of art you're interested in and start to develop a style.

My nan used to go to painting classes with the WI or the Guild or whatever old women's organisation it was and she actually ended up being pretty good. Not like a proper artist good but the sort of thing if you could paint it yourself you'd be pretty happy with.

Don't think she had any real artistic talent before either so it seems like you could probably get to a decent standard easily enough.
