View Full Version : Pogba yay or nay

Does anyone besides the freaks that still watch calcio ever watch him doing something worth of a transfer worth more then 30 million?

Seems like a nice fella but is that enough for people mentioning him for the golden ball?

I honestly think Mourinho lost it and he is one more bad signing for me to jump out of Mourinho's train.

In usual anti Saint logic, him calling him a failure makes me think he'll be a roaring success.

Angelsaint

Not calling him a failure. just don't understand the hype. To date I never even understood why he was first XI at juve. I honestly thought it was some clause the club signed that obligates them to have him in the first XI. Something they used to take him from man u.

The transfer doesn't make sense for the club or player. Agents played a blinder.

I just hope that all the neutrals, and even fans of other sides, can appreciate United providing the Premiership with the sort of star power that we've been lacking these past few years.

I can suspect one group who may have a hard time.

It's not often that the league gets a top, top player who 1) isn't on the decline; 2) isn't warming the Madrid bench, so I don't think it would be unreasonable for the Premier League to put towards the costs.

You could have got William carvalho for half the price, 1/4 of wages and 10x the quality! Ohhh and he is only European champion and European u21 finalist...

Jimmy Floyd
29-07-2016, 03:37 PM
Yay, but he will be judged a failure at that price unless he's the best player in the league.

I'm sure he's better than what they have so we're not talking Di Maria levels of danger here.

Anywho Di Maria is class.

Yeah, but they've broken the world record by 25%, the previous holder being Cristiano Ronaldo, who does win you trophies on his own.

Lewis
29-07-2016, 05:32 PM
Yeah, but Ronaldo cost Madrid a greater percentage of their revenue.

Jimmy Floyd
29-07-2016, 05:36 PM
Careful, or you'll have to operate a spreadsheet tracking various clubs' year-round revenue if you want any more e-victories.

From the second-last row of the Stade de France I kept thinking, "what a run by Pogba" before realizing it was actually Sissoko. Utterly invisible that night which doesn't bode well. I like that he's a star who's a proper midfielder, none of these half winger forward 'attacking' types.

United make silly money (sillier than ever before) and he's possibly the best player in the world that would sign for them. They might as well throw an extra 50 million on top.

Jimmy Floyd
29-07-2016, 09:59 PM
It's not the financial impact of the money (who cares how much money football clubs have, if they are running OK?), but the impact of the fee on his standing relative to other players and the expectations placed upon him because of it.

Football dressing rooms must be mighty weird places. Imagine getting knocked out of a starting XI by someone on a quarter of your wage, or vice versa.

randomlegend
29-07-2016, 10:04 PM
We don't have another midfielder even close to as good as him so I just don't see that becoming an issue.

Had he gone to Madrid to compete with Kroos and Modric it would have been a different matter.

Byron

When you consider that in this day and age, price is irrelevant then yeah Pogba will be a good signing.

Opposite to what many might think I didn't put much weight on that game. He was playing against a much better player then him so I tend to discount that game.

You can see why Alex Ferguson thought this agent was a cunt.

Wayne Rooney was on some weird deal where there were a lot of commercial incentives, so he might be in terms of his basic wage.

They've just signed him and Pjanic from Roma. 2 of the best players from their only 2 challengers in the league. They've almost assured the title before a ball is even kicked and can put everything into a crack at Europe. I see it as more of a statement of power in Italy too.

Vim also seems confident they can afford this without having to sell Pogba, so why not?

Yeah, I think it's pretty much done, which is a shame. I think Inter are the best hope of a title race but I'd be surprised if anyone got closer than last season.

Pirlo was Serie A Player of the Season at the end of 2012, 2013, and 2014. It's not really pertinent to the discussion, but it's worth noting just how amazing he was. What a man.

Tevez got it in 2015.
