View Full Version : [FOOTBALL] Pre-Season Friendly Thread

Weaver

I thought it was probably worth us having one thread for all of the pre-season games.

Liverpool played their first game tonight, winning 1-0 (Ings) at Tranmere, with Mané, Matip and Karius making their 'debuts'.

Is anyone going to any of their club's games, or do you not bother?

John

We have our first cup game a week tomorrow, so not much in terms of friendlies at Ibrox.

I think I'll be at our friendly v Bielsa's Lazio.

I'll probably watch some of the International Champions Cup as it's on Sky Sports. Although I don't really understand why they've invited minnows like Inter and PSG when they'll just get shown up against Leicester.

Well anyways I'll probably be there. I just won't get to link Lewis to my new Bielsa tactics blog post.

We have a typically batshit pre-season schedule. We begin topping up our fascist credentials with games at Rapid Vienna and Wolfsberger (not that one), before playing Liverpool in Pasadena, and then in perhaps the weirdest one yet, a match against Real Madrid in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTN6dmZI-1xIc6C5t-__T5JkFa2DBMyGn4ScUk_PWxAnvcpN9YJ5w

Then it's a trip to the twin cities to take on fallen giants Meelan, before an utterly inexplicable sortie to Moscow on 7 August to play CSKA Moscow, which is incidentally also the last time we'll be playing outside Blighty this season. Pity the poor, poor foreign fans with their now useless EU passports and wadfuls of booming currency.

Lee

We're in that bollocks International Champions' Cup thing. Celtic, Barcelona and PSG. I won't be bothering unless it's pissing down outside. I'll go to a couple of Hinckley friendlies, starting a week today.

Seriously think that if United play with Zlatan up front, Rooney as no 10 with Martial and Rashford on the flanks that's their best attack right there, if Zlatan and Rooney can get it to work where Zlatan drops deep like he occasionally does, when Rooney comes forwards as he occasionally does.

I'd normally say that Mikhtaryan or maybe even Mata might be a better choice than Rooney, but just reckon Rooney will work better with Zlatan for some reason.
