Sorry, Yev.

This isn't a spiral. It's a series of concentric circles. I had to move my mouse around them a few times before I believed it.

This one is also a bit hard to process:

That first one is so much better than the second one. I understand what it's doing, but it still works.

I can't be doing with the second one at all, actually. Of course you can do that with a load of moving lines, it'd probably be harder to put that many shifting lines close together and have them not do something that looks a bit wacky.

I'm more impressed with the control that it has over the perceived motion.

I'm calling shenanigans.

There is no phone.

Not having that. It's a fucking spiral.

I like the "oh yeah. Now I see it and nothing else" moments of these.

I didn't get Ital's one at first, partly because I was wondering what 'concentric' meant. :gs:

The phone was used to take the picture.

Is the phone

The black square next to the right leg?

If you blur your eyes a view you can see the circles. You can also just follow one and see that it never goes anywhere.

Took me ages to see the phone even after being told where it is.

Checked the answer, it is. Not sure that counts as an optical illusion.

It is there. It's an iPhone and you can see the cutout for the camera as plain as day.

Does that really count as an optical illusion (any more than say a shaded pencil drawing which makes something appear 3D on a 2D plane)?

I don't think MC Escher has a copyright on optical illusions mate

The technique to make it appear 3D is by curving the lines though, no? The point here is that they are straight and they appear curved (as if it had that 3D technique).

I would think the technique would be shading, which is how that one up there appears to be done.

The 'spirals' one further up is a proper headfucker.

This one seems to move as I look around it which is clever and all but now I don't trust my own eyes.

I think the main culprit is the little cubes inside the bigger ones that change orientation following a circular pattern, although I guess it's a bit of both.

And yeah it's much less "intense" than the spiral one.

This is the best optical illusion I've ever seen by miles.

Ital should be permabanned for using "neat" like he has in the title.
