I feel like my eyes are getting fucked from all the staring at the screen. Anything that can be done? I don't want to go blind.

Nope, nothing. You'll inevitably go blind and die alone, in the cold.

It's already at like 40%

Get specs you stupid prick.

I'm not blind yet.

Have you tried f.lux (https://justgetflux.com/)?

My sight is fine. What kind of specs we talking about here? Never worn any kind of glasses.

I've been using flux for about a year now and wouldn't be without it. Computer glasses may also help and they're dirt cheap.

I must have recommended flux about 15 times on here.

That's what you get for only reading the good posters.

Computer Glasses are just yellow shades. It's literally the same as using flux except flux adapts to time of day.

LOL really? I can't think of anything more wankerish than donning a pair of yellow shades for looking at a computer screen. No wonder Seven is all over it. I bet he forgot he was wearing him once when he saw his wife.

Yes, I've seen it mentioned before (I think Spoons was also wanking over it) but never really bothered with it before. I've installed it now and it seems to have done fuck all.

I can't remember what the condition is called (it's a bit like dyslexia-lite) but one of my friends wears orange glasses to help him read more easily.

It kills the blue light after sundown so your computer doesn't keep you awake.

I have it installed but I often find myself turning it off when it comes on as it's a bit annoying.

Still not sunset here for another 26 minutes so I'll tell you then. What 'lighting at night' level have you got it on?

Reg

You get used to it. It's just a bit orangey. I don't notice it anymore.

Opticians have a "20-20-20 rule". Every 20 minutes, take a break for 20 seconds and look at something 20+ feet away.

I think the fact that I am sitting under bright lights probably renders it redundant. It just looks a bit pinky, perhaps like I'm having some sort of brain bleed.

I don't need glasses, I can read stuff from miles away. Sometimes my eyes just feel a bit strained after staring at the screen all day.

I didn't think I needed glasses as I could still read things pretty far away but I went to get my eyes tested anyway because I would get headaches from reading and looking at a screen for too long. Turned out I did need glasses and even though I was shortsighted they still made the headaches from reading go away.

I'm like Pepe, genetically superior but suffer from spending my day looking at a screen only to spend my spare time looking at a screen leaving my eyes rageing come the end of the day. Take a one hour break from looking at any backlit screen 2-3 times a day and use flux for browsing TTH at night.

So does that flux thing do anything during the day? Seems like it doesn't.

You can adjust the settings so it kicks off earlier but unless you're stuck in a room with little to no light because what flux does is try to react to natural light around you to reduce contrast between you looking at your screen and away.

P.S. Having your screen at 40% brightness as default will be an issue in of itself. Light pollution is programmed so much higher that the contrast between your current screen and everything else is already too much. You're already at peak stimuli if you're going from 40% to advertising.

Pepe
29-06-2016, 09:36 PM
So what screen brightness is best then?

Also, are sunglasses really needed? Never worn them myself, but sometimes I spend 4+ hours on the bicycle so I'm thinking maybe I should start wearing them, but I would prefer not to.

1) 100 and then use flux or similar across products

2) I live in Swtizerland, not SoCal

It probably will. Unless I go to one of those eye places in Walmart, but I'm not sure I want to do that. Especially after I saw the woman who used to cut my cheese in the Deli donning a white labcoat in there.
