On balance, was this season the best Premier League season ever (since 1992)? The quality of football may not have been as good but in terms of storyline it's surely hard to beat. 2013-14 was good as well with Liverpool's run, and perhaps more exciting, but this season was remarkable. I don't know. I didn't watch the Premier League before 2008 so I'm not very well qualified.
If it's not the best, what is?
:dirk:
Fucking awful as a United fan, but obviously seeing an underdog like Leicester win the title is something we're unlikely to see for a long time.

The one when Newcastle lost the 12 point lead was the best. 95/96? This one also up there. 94/95 not bad either.
Everything between 99/00 and about ten years after that was awful.

It wasn't the best in terms of quality, nor excitement really. So no.

City blew a 13 point lead to Man Utd in recent years but I'd second the heartbreak of '96.

I remember some of the Blackburn and Utd seasons being good. Some of the seasons before football existed (Michael Thomas :hail:) were also decent.

There was barely a title race, and the relegation places were sorted as soon as Big Sam rode into town, so beyond the Greatest Story Ever Told you don't have much to work with (not that I can really think of a stand-out season where it was all happening).
It must be the greatest individual team story. As far as actual title races go, I think the classic Arsenal/United ones have been the best in my time.
I voted yes and then immediately disagreed with myself. it's the most memorable but it would have been better if anybody had managed to keep up wih Leicester until the end/Spurs hadn't bottled the shit out of it.
It's been great fun though, even if United have consistently ruined my Sundays when they've been on.

It's been the least expected, but not necessarily the best. As noted, there wasn't really much of a title race (lol Spurs) and most teams were defined by their shitness all season. I also don't feel like there's been that many great games. Most of the 'top teams' games were tedious. Leicester beating Liverpool and City were good though.

Arsenal-Leicester and Chelsea-Spurs were the games of the season imo. Liverpool-Norwich was also pretty great.
Well I've fucking loved it. Cup finals, play offs, then Euros still to come. Lovely.

The rumblings of discontent from the failing 'big clubs' in the background and attempts to move the Champions League over to a 3 year qualification period etc etc do leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

Excitement means to the wire (winning and relegation) for me or an utterly sublime championship winning side.

Would have been better had there been a bit (a lot more jeopardy). It seemed a very quick transition from no chance, they'll fall away eventually, well, maybe to oh yeah they've absolutely pissed it and won the thing by ten points.
I've no idea how you go about quantifying a season anyway, and then comparing it to others. From the perspective of the unexpected story it has been good, but the football has generally been dreadful. There has also been a moth to a flame style effect of drawing non-football 'tards into the mix which is usually the sole preserve of major international tournaments, so god knows what is going to happen when the Euros hit. I don't know why they don't just pick the Leicester team . . .
The quality of football has been shite.

3 year qualification period? What?

Apparently the compromise that Karl Heinz and his mates have come up with is rather than having The Big Clubs given automatic entry regardless of league position, they want the qualifying process changed to a 3 year average - so a Big Club could have a shit season but still qualify on the 3 year average.
Milan have been shit for a lot longer than 3 years so it wouldn't save them, but there we are.
Leicester have been the only great thing about the season. If you swapped the positions of Leicester and Chelsea, we'd be decrying this season as the worst in fuck knows how long.

Didn't they have that system for relegation in Argentina until River Plate fell foul of it?

Yep. They then changed it so that there are now 30 teams in their (appalling) top flight.
EDIT: In fact they still have it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Argentine_Primera_Divisi%C3%B3n#Relegation. The state of that.

Arsenal finishing ahead of Spurs in circumstances is better than the Leicester thing imo.

3rd in a 2-horse race. Only Spurs could manage it.

Say what?
Leicester's achievement aside, it's probably been one of the worst Premier League/-ship seasons ever. Turgid football, hardly anyone challenging for the title, Norwich were involved, and Liverpool sacked Sir Brendan and now all the focus is on our goofy manager rather than how we're the worst we've been for a long time. Absolute poo season.

Every season United won the title > this season > every other season

It's been great. Aside from Leicester donning proceedings I think the quality of the league has never been better. Really looking forward to next season as well; everyone's going to go for it this summer so we're pretty much guaranteed some major fallout next year.

I'd happily bin it now as it can never really reach the height of Leicester winning it. Peaked.

With all the money they're about to get it would be great if it became about organisation and actually having a plan that goes further than spunking more than your rivals.
