Nervous for tomorrow.

Real Madrid v Valencia looks tasty, but I think the big three will all win.

The only lol available for the rest of the season is if the ruins of the Tottenham squad manage to finish below Arsenal. That and Newcastle going down. We should chuck our game at Sunderland.

Magic

Arsenal finishing 2nd would produce two extreme lols:

1: Spurs collapse
2: Pathetic protesting Arsenal fans

I would have been up for creating the threads, but it got the point where if I put my name forward I wasn't going to win the bet which appears to have won me the title (where is my badge?) so looks like I donned it to shit in the end.

Davgooner
06-05-2016, 10:59 PM
It's not about where we finish. It's early days and it's not exactly a coherent thing yet, but I'd imagine the protests will be sustained from this point forward, with it perhaps ramping up a bit pre season when it's easier to get tickets for some. Does make me chuckle that most of the mongs who seem to be viewing this as some whiney protest by spoilt fans who don't know how good they have it are the same lot who've taken the piss out of our performance for the last decade. Which is it? Everything's relative: you worry about our club and I'll worry about mine.

Lewis
06-05-2016, 11:02 PM
The question is why has it taken these people (and you) this long to realise?

Davgooner
06-05-2016, 11:07 PM
The only thing that's changed is more people coming over to the side of wanting Wenger to do one. I think the animosity towards those running the club has been there since we left Highbury; plenty of protests regarding Usmanov/Kroenke etc, and some fo the cunts in the regime that pimped us out into a property company. The BSM started up about six years ago and there were some hefty turnouts. Ultimately the press are only interested in the manager's position.

Spoonsky

I think there's also the fact that this is really the year that Arsenal should have won it. They've lost out to a pair of sides who are far worse on paper, which is worse I think than the usual collapse to City or Chelsea.

I'd massively disagree about this. Especially regarding Spurs.

Making a 'Combined XI' between them and Arsenal and I don't see too many Arsenal players making the team. There may be a case at full back and you could think about Ozil and Sanchez further up but beyond that there's at least 7 Spurs players in.

Davgooner
07-05-2016, 09:40 AM
We're better on paper but that only serves to highlight how poorly we ended up performing. Either of the two other two managers up there would have won the league with this squad. It's not the quality of the players but rather the way they're motivated and coached.

Claiming Arsenal not winning it is worse than City or Chelsea who were A) more fancied at the start B) stronger on paper and C) far shitter than them this season is just wrong.

Who's doing that? Chelsea have reacted to their shitty season by binning their manager, and Man City binning their manager has been a sort of catalyst for their season going to shit.

The point is that with the two sides Arsenal can understandably finish behind out of the way it must be a bit galling to then finish behind their historically worse rivals and some upstart mob who were going down until April last year instead, hence the increase in protests.

Always thought a win was going to be tough. The red card sounds odd, with vastly differing opinions on it. Real kick in the teeth if that puts him out for the whole of the play-offs (is it a 3 game ban?). Between that and Dunk last week things are unraveling slightly. Sheffield Wednesday should be beatable over two legs but I really don't fancy a final against either of the other two. You never know though, Derby are probably owed a good shoeing.

Reg
07-05-2016, 03:05 PM
There was bickering between Stephens and Ramirez beforehand, and I think Stephens may have seen an opportunity to get the ball and hurt the man at the same time. Some refs would have sent him off, others wouldn't. It is a 3 game ban, niko_cee.

I thought we played poorly before the red and well afterwards. Boro are a bastard of a side to play in this division, but I can't see them scoring many or staying up in the Prem.

Forget the fact that only one of them has actually scored goals this years, and compare Rooney's calm, experienced hold-up play with Vardy wasting several good chances. That is why we need him leading the line in the Euros.

It must be a hard one for Leicester in some respects, because it is (more than likely) all downhill from here. Ooh well I don't care I've seen us win the lea... Everything they ever do will be shit compared to this, so it would be the ideal time to stop watching it.

I thought about it actually. But I want to see us in Europe. And I don't go just for the game. Just going is a hobby now. Everything will be worse in terms of actual achievement, but there are loads of relative highs. Every goal will still get the same cheer, for example. It's a fun thing to do, regardless of level or success.

I'm not one for taking it home anyway. I don't go home and slap the missus about if we lose. But I'll definitely care less about where we end up. I've seen us win the league, for fuck's sake. It's mental. I know from bitter experience that Forest, Derby and Cov fans hvpave lived off their past successes for years. Decades even. I'll get a fair bit of currency out of this one.

Agree completely, and one of the biggest downsides to my leaving for college is leaving Real Salt Lake. Not that they're so good, but they're my team, and it's just not the same when you can't attend games. I'll go see the Impact probably but I doubt it will be regular. It's really a sport for adolescents and the middle-aged, isn't it? Not that you're exactly middle-aged, but your life in 5 or 10 years probably won't be radically different, at least not compared to mine.

Exactly. If you're not going to games then it all gets a little bit pointless. I went back to my lot after about 7 years away last season and instantly it meant a whole lot more than anything a Premier League team ever did, even though the team and football are both septic.

I don't know how you can really connect properly without being there in the flesh occasionally. Most of the fun is the day and building relationships with random people who have the same thing in common with you. I high fived the old dear who runs the Leamington Spa branch when we scored yesterday just as an example.

Enjoy the goon. The one thing you'll hopefully not have to deal with as much is the away tickets getting into the wrong hands and not too many day trippers taking over the home games.

If City had won the Champions League and then finished 5th then they would have taken 4th spot from the team who finished there. See what Chelsea did to Spurs in 2012.

Are we dull like West Brom dull? As much as I don't mind the baggies, they never really seem to have anything going for them. I don't see us like that, but I imagine other probably do. In terms of survival (fingers crossed for this season) we almost seem to have become the Coventry/Southampton of when I was a kid *shudder*

In terms of our actual side right now, we have probably the best striker in the bottom half, some pretty classy midfielders and we seem to be starting to put a decent defence together. I thought it was going to be cruel irony that we went down with this side, but now we've given ourselves hope.

Sunderland really need to get it over with and go down (preferably never to return), and in any other season you would hope that it happened. Unfortunately, Big Sam is a football legend, and Newcastle going down would be funnier in the short-term, so ideally they will stay up, lose Big Sam to England, and then go down with about thirteen points next year.

Maybe, but they probably need to go down, ditch half of their terrible squad, and develop some sort of SYSTEM (for lack of a better word) before they look at doing that (Big Sam probably isn't your man for that).
