Just some info on prize money. Clubs make bank off Europe but the idea of Thursday night footy seems to get up some people's skirts. And it looks like gate receipts eclipses any prize money you'd get from UEFA.
Yeah, it makes sense that the second-rate club competition would be less popular, but that's mostly true for the teams that expect to be in the CL. For the other ones it's a big deal.

It still matters to the extent that it allows clubs like Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool to attract a 'higher calibre of player' in the all important transfer market, which usually means overpaying for some overrated shithead rather than scouting anyone properly. All hail the market!
