    Ice-Cream Flavours

Been having a debate since last night about flavours of ice cream. I like banana. Yet, every time i go to coventry to somewhere that sells ice-cream by the boat load. They do not sell banana. In wolves, the common default flavours are chocolate, vanilla, and banana. Everywhere else, the banana is replaced strawberry.

I ask you, is it strawberry or banana? There are lots of other flashy fly flavours. But i dont care about them.

Ben and Jerry cookie dough is the winner for me.

Banana ice cream can do one. You must love a Macies banana milkshake?

Strawberry-lemon is what I've gotten since I was a kid. I've deviated from that pairing very few times.

I'd go banana every time, but you never see it. Chocolate is rank, and if I'm being honest, I probably haven't eaten any ice cream since about 2004.

I would say strawberry is far more common than banana. Vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate are the big three.

Oh and Magic you plank, it's Neapolitan.

    LOL.

I absolutely hate vanilla ice cream, it's fucking dreadful on it's own. Fine with a pie or whatever but even then I prefer cream and/or custard.

Fruit flavoured ice cream oh yes, chocolate is meh, though the weird flavours are awesome. Coffee.

Not liking chocolate ice cream is one of the diagnostic criteria for being a massive deviant.

Edit: also, gelato > ice cream (unfortunately).

No it isn't. It uses different proportions of the ingredients and is made differently.

It's pretty obviously different if you've tried them both.

I remember in London getting an espresso ice cream and them bringing out a scoop of vanilla ice cream then pouring a cold espresso on top of it.

It's a type of ice cream, not a separate thing. Gelato is the Italian word for 'ice cream'.

What you said is like saying 'Greek yogurt > yogurt', or 'Spanish football > football.'

OK, since apparently it broke your mind working out what was obviously implied:

Italian ice cream (gelato) > English ice cream.

That's the one, although anyone who eats them mixed together deserves everything they get. We had it all worked out as kids, my Dad only wanted the chocolate (confirmed deviant) and I would always eat the strawberry leaving the vanilla for when the strawberry ran out (or for my sisters but who gives a shit about them).

And gelato is clearly a type of ice cream, saying otherwise is like claiming a ham sandwich and a cheese sandwich aren't both sandwiches because they have different things in them.

Mint choc chip, pistachio and hazelnut are the absolute dons. I only tried hazelnut last year but it's amazing.

    Mastic is also quite nice.

Yes. My mind is the broken one.

There's a 'gelato' place in Silverburn that does parmesan flavour. I've never seen anyone buying it, but if I did I think I'd be dutybound to cut them off at the knees.

If I'm buying it out and about I will always go for vanilla so that it's a constant and you can judge the quality of the actual ice cream. If I'm buying tubs of it to eat in one go like a depressed fat lass, that salted caramel Haagen-Dazs is pretty great, and them biscuit core ones Ben & Jerry's do are good as well (I take it we all only buy these when they are on offer, since lol at paying a fiver for them).

Vanilla isn't really available in a form conducive to eating 'raw'. If the vanilla fruit was like an apple people would be eating it all the time. Everyone could be sticking blocks of parmesan on their cheese boards, but it just isn't a pleasant flavour by itself.

The real villains of the ice cream world at the moment are 'Kelly's' though, with that hateful advert. I want to throw my entire living room at the television when that twat appears.

    Pistachio is good.

Every ice cream I tried in Rome was pretty great. Still, I'm not quite as passionate about gelato as RL or John.

    It's not just that.

"It's is churned at a much slower rate, incorporating less air and leaving the gelato denser than ice cream. Gelato is served at a slightly warmer temperature than ice cream, so its texture stays silkier and softer. Because it has a lower percentage of fat than ice cream, the main flavor ingredient really shines through."

    It's really good.

We had this tiny little place near our hotel in Rome called Mr Ice that looked like a dodgy corner shop. We ended up going every night we were there, it's the best frozen cream-based dessert product I've ever had.

    The Bueno flavour

If it's from a proper place then chocolate is quite good. Generic one is to be avoided.

My favorite would be that coconut one I used to get in Acapulco. Absolutely fantastic. There was this Italian place that would make quite excellent fruit ice cream (I think they called it something else,) with mango probably being the best.

Did anyone suggest eating parmesan on it's own? It's (apparently) being used as a flavouring. Only approving of things that are both nice and convenient to eat on their own is a slippery slope.

Mint would be out for a start.

I didn't bring convenience into it. I think parmesan is a shitty idea for an ice cream because it's not a pleasant dominant flavour. It's only nice as a note in a pasta or whatever.
