I was thinking about it the other day. It would mean the London pull is there for the players and you'd get sightly better weather.

In Girona for the next 4-5 days. Did you come here @dino?

Only arrived at two but it's looking promising so far, very old and medieval in parts. Loads of cobbled streets.

Hitting this up either tomorrow or Saturday.

Girona is absolutely amazing. Food is incredible as you would expect. It's all tiny cobbled streets and cafes.

Went a walk on the old city walls yesterday, views of Montjuic and down into Girona old town.

Currently sitting in a cafe smoking after destroying a slab of bread, ham and cheese with a double espresso for breakfast.

Went to a seafood restaurant last night, had seafood paella and Galician style octopus which was still alive when we ordered it.

No food photo can compete with Charlie's chicken on pasta, but fresh octopus/squid/cuttlefish is indeed quite good.

I've never been to Girona, or eaten live octopus, but that looks pretty damn good.

Pan con tomate is the best breakfast dish in the world I think, but you can't go wrong with ham and cheese I guess.

Go to Hambara, it's a bar in an old stables lit entirely by candle. There's no sign for it, you just have to knock on this wooden door at the end of an alleyway.

Looking up the churches of Sofia it looks like I missed most of the interesting ones. Alexander Nevski Cathedral is beautiful though surrounded by a parking lot.

The one good thing about the Algarve is the fresh seafood in Alvor. The Captain's Table was responsible for some of the most delicious meals I've had in my life.

I went to Split in late September last year. Could not recommend it more, although a whole week might just be pushing its charms a bit too far, albeit you can get out the city to go to Skradinski (amazing waterfalls) and Plitvice (even more amazing waterfally, lakey national park). Oh, and Krka too (more of the same).

We did six days in Croatia split between Dubrovnik and Split. I unconditionally loved the country.

Yeah sounds excellent from the posts earlier in the thread. Do you think it would be doable with a 2 year old?

Probably wouldn't do a full week, maybe Wed-Sat but the options there to tie in Dubrovnik as well.

Yeah, definitely. I doubt there's masses to do specifically for kids, but I'm sure they'd be happy enough coming along for the ride.

Note: I am probably not remotely qualified to comment on parenting matters.

In Greece at the moment and think I've had saganaki cheese and beer for lunch every day so far. Until now I had thought some grilled halloumi was king, but this has changed everything (not sure what cheese I'm actually eating, but it's the perfect beer snack).

As great as beaches and all that are, I think I could quite happily go on holiday just to eat food.

I think I still prefer grilled feta to saganaki

Bread and tyrokafteri (spicy cheese dip) is usually the first thing I order though.

You're probably thinking of Faliraki or something, because that is not the case at all. It's 95% couples, families and cruise ship passengers.

It's great, but the volcano tours don't merit having to deal with the hordes. Milos has one too afaik.

I've been in Puglia for the last week and I'll be flying back Sunday (on my one year wedding anniversary!) It's been gloriously hot here and because we're with the sibling-in-laws who have a young kid we've had a formulaic beach-pool day to every day. The food is amazing, the quality in tomatoes alone is staggering. They're almost like grapes for the sweetness compared to the UK produce.

He's right though, like 95% of the tomatoes you get in UK supermarkets are bland as fuck.

Just got my first crate of San Marzano's the other day. There is a difference, although it's not as great as I had hoped.
