Yep, mid-day during the week is the best.

Although I had some prick in a row or two in front me turn on his phone throughout a certain scene in The Force Awakens. I should have lamped him but I was too busy quietly seething instead.

I love going to the Bond crew screening though, they confiscate all phones so there's absolutely no chance of some prick ruining the film.

The Fate of the Furious has raced to the top of the box office chart - breaking an international record in the process.
The eighth film in the action thriller franchise took an estimated $532.5m (£424.7m) globally over Easter weekend.
The figure makes it the strongest worldwide debut ever - marginally overtaking the $529m (£421.8m) taken by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Lol. That trailer must have really sold it...

So, I just finished watching the documentary Finders Keepers.

I think it was well shot and followed the right strings but I can't get over the absolutely mental 'Only in America' story, it's just utterly bizarre.

Logan is decent fun, but I'm not sure how it wound up with a fifteen certificate. Every third word is 'fuck' and there are severed heads all over the place. I suppose the fact there's never even the merest hint of sexual violence helped it out, but still.

About to stick on the latest Kim Jee-Woon film, The Age of Shadows. Perfect score on RT.

I didn't think it lacked substance at all, it just doesn't have a great deal of exposition. There's plenty of nuance to think about.

He's right that it's incredibly stylish though.

I might watch Get Out tonight. I thought the trailer was awful, but obviously it's getting some good reviews.

Blu Ray/DVD is still a month out. I stop noticing hardcorded subs after about five minutes so I'll be grabbing that.

Yeah the only time I ever found hardcoded subs an issue was a few years back when some rip had Arabic ones that took up 75% of the screen.

The subtitles on my copy of Age of Shadows were the most annoying I've encountered in a while, but they were nowhere near as bad as most of the screen being taken up. The film itself has basically no opening credits, so the brainbox who put the subs together added the actor names into the file and had them run over a scene with dialogue. A lot of dialogue. So the lines were constantly bouncing around the bottom of the screen as they were being compressed to allow an actor name to appear, or going from two lines to one as an actor name disappeared.

I've been looking forward to watching it for a while, so I can wait another month. If it's a random film I'll usually just make do, but I want a full 1080p version for films I'm eagerly anticipating.

    Get Out, then.

I don't get the hype. There's a couple of freaky moments early doors, the lead gives a great performance as does Catherine Keener as the girlfriend's mother. The rest I'll spoiler as it touches on the social commentary and other things:

If Shyamalan had made this it'd be laughed out the park.

Moana was much like any Disney film. A little bit different in the character dynamic and the lack of prince-charming narrative, which was quite refreshing. Also, stunning art style IMO. Quirky, weird singing. Jermaine from Flight of the Concords stole the show.

Generally pretty great Disney film, probably the best to come out for a few years.

Paterson was pretty good. It's nothing special, just following a guy from Monday to Sunday in his every day life. In that sense it's kind of weird because you're always expecting something to happen, or the 'big bang' and a nice ending, but it never does. Just him doin' his thang. Weird. I enjoyed it, but at the same time I was bored.

Exactly how a horror should be. Slow build up, moments of madness, some solid humour. Fantastic film.

The Great Wall is complete and utter nonsense, but it's enjoyable enough while it's there. Matt Damon puts on an incredibly stilted, strange voice that at times sounds like an attempt at a Scottish accent, and at times sounds like Russell Crowe doing Robin Hood.

Channel-flicking before I get into my pit and put on Attack the Block, as I remember it being enjoyable fluff.

Fucking John Boyega's in it. That caught me off-guard.

Jason Statham was good but I think that's helped by me not seeing anything he's been in since the last one so the charm hasn't worn off.

Watched Burnt this weekend. It was very odd. Kind of OK, but just seemed like a very pointless film. Like there wasn't really any plot, just Bradley Cooper faffing around in kitchens being a dick. Felt more like an episode of Chefs Table than a film at times. But also had a bit of an adult version of Ratatouille about it.

Still, for some reason I quite enjoyed it. Possibly because I was quite drunk.

Really, really enjoyed Man From UNCLE. Hope it gets a sequel despite its poor performance. Both Cavill and Hammer are really stiff, but I think it works in this context.

    Oh, and Alicia Vikander.

Colossal is an incredibly strange thing. The premise is fundamentally childish, but the film is about alcoholism and has plenty of swearing in it.

I'd love to read the foundation of the lawsuit the Godzilla people tried to bring against it, because other than containing a monster and a very loose stylistic similarity the two films have literally nothing in common.
