It seemed Lewis had been doing a warm up lap after out lap before his flier. Didn't seem to do that at the end and his tyres died in the 3rd sector.

The Mercedes problem with zero sidepod design was they didn't understand why certain things did and didn't work after a year of trying to fix it.
This change has the more potential time to find, but only if they know why they're now a bit faster. The good news for them is that they seem to, as overnight they seemed to have cracked something in the data/simulator.
Canada should be similar conditions to we've seen this weekend. A bit cooler and maybe a little moisture in the air.
The possible disaster here is they've just got lucky with something. However Tory George starting behind Checo and finishing ahead of him comfortably, with a race without a single yellow flag or SC, at a track that suits the Red Bull car, suggests not so much. Or that Perez is very shite.

And obviously Perez is fairly meh as a driver. He's not shite, but he's limited, mainly to being an excellent rear-gunner/roadblock.
By the end of the year they were at the same spot they occupied in this Spanish GP. There to mop up the points in 2nd/3rd. No real chance of taking a win unless shenanigans happens.
However as we've seen, that's because Red Bull was working on the beast they have now.

If they have to abandon the Canadian grand prix because of the smoke they may as well can the season, give Red Bull all the trophies and accept that god isn't keen on F1 this year.

Should in theory be quite similar to how Spain unfolded as it'll be similar temperatures and a not too dissimilar track type. If we've now got a "Max wins but Mercedes can actually compete with Sergio for 2nd/3rd" then I'm not too unhappy.
It took us until more than halfway through last season to get to that point. I think it was France onwards that Sergio let all hope of the title slip. It's also been a while since "Look I'm really not French guys" punted himself into a wall or someone else too, so I'll pencil him in for a lap 37 trip into the wall of champions.
It's Le Mans weekend and a NASCAR entry is running for the first time since 1976. Looks much faster than I expected it to be. I know they have great top speed but it's carrying it through the corners alright.

Very. They usually stick with the GTs but the new Hypercar rules (it's no longer LMP1 as the top class) has brought a few more manufacturers to the party.
Some cool looking cars and perhaps not a Toyota procession.
Immediate red flag in FP1 for Gasly stopping on track. We've been waiting for over 10 mins since and the car is well clear yet no running.
More annoying that this though is that it seems as though he can rejoin the session, which I don't think he should be able to do.

If it's a washed out day today Mercedes could have done well. They got the most race pace running in while there weren't many red flags during the start of FP2. All other teams did the qualy pace runs first.
Aston also didn't get a good chance to test out their upgrades. I suspect we have a 5 way battle for 2nd after Max wins by 30+ seconds.
